Jimmy Bartel was in the right place at the right time for round 2 2013 to see a new record being established for the highest match/win percentage from 150 consecutive matches.

As Rogers Results noted, there was a new margin in Round 2; 148-points recorded for the first time in AFL/VFL history, in Essendon's demolition of Melbourne.

One interesting sidelight to this is how often Melbourne have been involved in new margins by 120-points or more in history.

Melbourne have the worst two defeats in history, by 190-points against Fitzroy in 1979 & 186-points against Geelong in 2011, so these margins ocurred for the first and to date only times in these games.

The Demons were also the first team to lose by 127-points, when they conceded 31.14-200 to North Melbourne in 1990 (a side they beat by 53-points in an encounter earlier that season, and which the Demons would thrash by 70 points at their next meeting early in the 1991 season).

In Round 17 1986, Melbourne left the SCG with a 124-point belting from the Sydney Swans, a game that saw this margin appear for the first time, and Swan Rod Carter kick his first (and only) career goal.

However, the Dees also have been on the credit side of the ledger a few times in this regard.

In 1926, the red & blues kept Hawthorn to 1.7-13 in a 141-point demolition, a margin that stood alone for 64-years until it was achieved again somewhat ironically (considering the above-mentioned Demons vs Kangaroos match) by North Melbourne over Richmond in 1990.

On Easter Saturday in Round 2, 1991 Melbourne slammed through a massive 27.18-180 to destroy Fitzroy (6.13-49) by a new margin of 131-points. Interestingly, having taken 95 years for a 131-point margin to appear, it was just 5 weeks before it came up again, by St Kilda over Adelaide at Moorabbin in Round 7, and it then came up again in Round 20 1992, when the West Coast Eagles trounced the Brisbane Bears at the WACA.

In another game between Melbourne and North Melbourne, this time in 1937, the Demons slaughtered the Kangaroos by a new margin of 122-points at the MCG winning 25.16-166 to 5.14-44.

In Round 21 1993, Melbourne (who had been thrashed by the Adelaide Crows the week before, and would end the season the next week with a hiding from Fitzroy) took on Richmond at the MCG, and after scores were level midway through the second term, proceeded to tear the Tigers apart. The final scores of 26.19-175 to 8.6-54 saw a margin of 121-points for the first time. Nearly 20 years have gone by since this game, and the margin of 121-points has never come up again to date.

Does anyone know if 39 points is the biggest win by a team that lost three quarters? I'm just sore because I had both the losers at the line on AFL Predictor.

As far as I can tell, this has never happened in the same quarter of two games on the same day before. There have been two instances of 11+ goals in different quarters on the same day:
31-Mar-1984: Carlton 5.4 16.5 23.10 31.13 (199) d. North Melbourne 9.8 (62); Geelong 3.5 10.5 21.9 23.10 (148) d. Fitzroy 15.9 (99)
22-Jul-1972: Carlton 4.4 16.4 17.7 20.13 (133) d. Essendon 17.15 (117), Essendon won the other three quarters;

There is only one case of two quarters in the same match with 11+ goals for a team:
23-Aug-1986: Hawthorn 6.6 10.8 22.11 35.15 (225) d. Geelong 13.12 (90), won by 135 after leading by just three points at half-time

Found it: 12-Aug-1939. Melbourne 2.5 13.11 19.13 22.16 (148) d. Geelong 2.6 2.9 10.11 13.17 (95) by 53 points despite losing three quarters.

Indeed you were.

150 matches back from from round 5 2013 for Geelong takes them back to the round 4 2007 loss to Hawthorn - which leaves them still on 123 wins and 27 losses.
From the loss to Nth Melbourne in round 5 2007, they have 123 wins and 26 losses from 149 matches. A win in round 6 2013 would give then 124 wins and 26 losses from their last 150 matches. It all about gaining wins and 'losing' losses at the other end of the sequence.

I make that a total of 10 mistakes Gleeson made in his stats table. Enough to make one ask where the Hell he was getting his data from.

This adds up to 93 Wins, but 91 Losses. Clearly the two figures need to match, and that ideally would have been checked before it was released! 93 at least looks to be the correct amount IF it was for wins by 6 points and under.
