Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Actually, it was:

Q1: Quarter tied
Q2: Bulldogs win by 12 points
Q3: Quarter tied
Q4: Bulldogs win by 12 points

And use CODE tags if you want us to make soms sense of your ladder bit.

With two ties at quarter intervals, the footy quarter quad would have paid a fortune if of course offered in this match.

But one question i have wondered for a long time, how do you implement 'code' into a table/ladder? I've tried before and it hasn't worked, and i haven't worried about putting up a table since as it does condense annoyingly even when you space it out upon typing it.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Type out what you want in Notepad, copy to BigFooty, highlight it, click on the # tags.

Preview it, add some bold or color or whatever.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Hawthorn have been hammered by injury this year to the extent that they've fielded, on average, the youngest side in the competition.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Thought I'd just bring this up again...

Ever wondered if the footy scores at the end of a match are telling you something?(DON'T TAKE IT TOO SERIOUSLY) Well I have just a few mind dazzling stats that I found from certain AFL match scores.

#1 2008 Grand Final - Geelong Cats v Hawthorn Hawks

Geelong 11.23 (89)
Hawthorn 18.7 (115)

Hawks last Premiership before '08 was 1991, 17 years before the 2008 GF.

If you add Hawthorn's total scoring (18 + 7 + 115)= 140
If you subtract Geelong's total scoring (11 + 23 + 89) = 123
=17

Which is how many years it took for Hawks to win their next premiership!

ALSO
If you take Hawthorn and Geelong's TOTAL score, that is goals, behinds and score, then divide by 150 years of AFL in 2008, then multiply this by Hawthorns premierships, then you get close to the time in years the hawks LAST won a premiership, 17 years ago.H
THAT IS:
(18+7+115)+(11+23+89)/150

multiplied by 10
= 17.5years

ALSO YOU COULD SAY GEELONG HAD A SCORE OF 89!

#2 Sydney Swans vs West Coast Eagles patterns

2005 Qualifying Final - West Coast won by 4
2005 Grand Final - Sydney won by 4
2006 Qualifying Final - Sydney won by 1
2006 Grand Final - West Coast won by 1
The losers of the 2006 QF and GF both had a score of 12.12.84

Any more?

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

North Melbourne has the same win/loss record against St Kilda and the Bulldogs: 71 wins, 72 losses.

And some teams have a 50/50 record:

Code:
[B][U]Matchups W L D[/U][/B]
Fitzroy v Melbourne 88 88 3
Carlton v Adelaide 14 14 0
Bris Lions v Port 11 11 2
St Kilda v Fremantle 11 11 0
Collingwood v Port 9 9 0
Richmond v Bris Lions 8 8 1

1999 R18

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

teams leading by 1-3 pts at 3/4 time 559/991= 56.41% go on to win (in VFL/AFL) not counting draws

leading by 4-6 pts at 3/4 time 650/1023 = 63.54% win

leading by 7-9 pts at 3/4 time 691/962= 71.83% win

leading by 10-12 pts at 3/4 time 734/958=76.62% win

leading by 13-15 pts at 3/4 time 736/881=83.54% win

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Forgive me if someone has already mentioned this but i wasn't about to read 14 pages...

In 1916 Fitzroy won the wooden spoon and the premiership in the same year.

Due to the war many sides withdrew from the competition and left only 4 sides to compete. Fitroy finished last in the home and away season with 2 wins, 9 losses and a draw. They won all 3 finals matches to secure the premiership.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

An odd stat is that Geelong now has a sequence of 7 wins in a row against the Dogs in finals, stemming from 1976. Geelong in complete contrast has lost four successive finals against both the Hawks and Eagles.....instrumental in four of our five Grand Final defeats since 1989.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

-First time since 2002, Collingwood will meet Adelaide at the MCG.
-3rd time that a team has kicked over 72 pts or more in a final.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Bulldogs played in consecutive finals series in '53 and '54. In these years, they faced Geelong in both years.

Bulldogs played in consecutive finals series in '94 and '95. In these years, they faced Geelong in both years.

Bulldogs played in consecutive finals series in '97 and '98. In these years, they faced Adelaide in both years.

Bulldogs played in consecutive finals series in '99 and '00. In these years, they faced Brisbane in both years.

Bulldogs played in consecutive finals series in '08 and '09. In these years, they faced Geelong in both years.

________

In the last ten weeks, starting from next Friday night against St. Kilda:

Bulldogs have played:

St. Kilda twice
Brisbane twice
Geelong twice
Collingwood twice
Freo and West Coast (I'm gonna cheat and say Western Australia twice)
Only other team in there is Essendon, who the Bulldogs played nine weeks ago.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

The Bulldogs have a pathetic record in preliminary finals.

Their first PF was in 1953, and next week will be their 9th.

They have lost all but one of the preliminary finals they have played.

When they did win a PF, they then lost the GF (1961 - Hawthorn's first premiership).

Their solitary premiership in 1954 came via a 2nd semi final win thus skipping the PF.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Brad Johnson played every game of the season for the 11th time, one short of Jock McHale's 12 (Jack Titus also 11). Jim Stynes played 10 consecutive full seasons 1988-1997.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Dean Greig had 39 disposals on debut
Richo kicked 27.3 in 1995 to give him an accuracy of %90.0
and Matt Armstron kicked 12.32 (%27.27) in 1988
Tony lockett also kicked 16.0 in one game in 1995.

That highlights how horrible the Dees were in 1981, won their only game in Round 3 i think with a Flower kick after the siren by one point, and that was the only time 'It's a Grand old Flag' was given a recital all year! A mere three votes as the leading player is embarrasing.

With the Dogs now having lost six successive Preliminary finals (1985, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2008 and 2009, this is similar to the Kangaroo's rather unique feat of losing all five 2nd Semi finals they played back in the 70's.

They lost in 1974 (to Richmond), 1975 to Hawthorn, 1976 to Hawthorn also, although in 1977 they actually lost their qualifying final to Hawthorn instead, and again 1978 to Hawthorn and 1979 to Carlton. They played in six successive Preliminary finals for a record of five wins (the first five) and a loss to the Pies in 1979.

Geelong may have a pretty poor Grand Final record since 1989 (five losses from six), but at least we've also won seven of our nine Preliminary finals in that same time.

Matthew Capuano is St kildas straightest kick for goal. 13.0
