Re: First players to play against every team.

Heres a challenge, which player has played in the most team match ups. eg judd has played 15 different ones for the eagles and another 14 for carlton (he already played wce v carl at wce).

Im guessing a pike, flethcher kickett with early 50's

53 Pike, Martin
51 Fletcher, Adrian
51 Murphy, Justin
50 Osborne, Richard
49 Minton-Connell, Simon
47 Kickett, Dale
45 Athorn, Mark
45 Cummings, Scott
44 Molloy, Jarrod
43 Everitt, Peter
43 Heuskes, Adam
42 Brown, Leigh
42 Guerra, Brent
42 Hall, Barry
42 Jolly, Darren
42 Michael, Mal
42 Pickett, Byron
42 Powell, Stephen
42 Simmonds, Troy
42 Watters, Scott
42 Welsh, Scott
41 Beveridge, Luke
41 Caracella, Blake
41 Caven, Peter
41 Kappler, Darren
41 McCartney, Jason
41 Raines, Geoff
40 Bond, Chris

List does not differentiate between Brisbane Bears and Brisbane Lions.

Re: First players to play against every team.

Why are you so surprised? Don't politicians do that on a regular basis?

Of all the players somebody might randomly choose to create an invented list I'm not sure Peter Caven, Mark Athorn and Darren Kappler come straight to mind!

Could have done with some more Doc Wheildon and Laurence Schache.

39 Tony Delaney
38 Scott Bamford
37 Clay Sampson
36 Marty McKinnon

Feel better? :p

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Another challenge for someone who wants to compile a list. What are the most games played under one coach? Gordon Coventry played 306, his complete career total, under Jock McHale. Can any player top this?

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

I've got Coventry down for 305 as McHale missed the 1930 GF through illness.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Who coached this match then...and was it their only match coaching? Surely would have been their only match coaching Collingwood so I'm going with the most successful coach in the clubs history :D

Bob Rush, the club treasurer at the time. One of five brothers who had played for Collingwood, and for whom the R.T.Rush stand at Victoria Park was named. The match was played two days after his 50th birthday.

McHale apparently had a bad dose of 'flu, and his absence was blamed for Collingwood's lacklustre first half. Rush gave a spirited half time address and Collingwood responded with 8.6 to a point in the third quarter to set up the win. And yeah, it was his only game as coach.

I think Sheedy missed a game through illness in the 2000's, but insisted on being officially credited as coach for the match.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

1) In 1922 Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon all defeated Fitzroy, the eventual Premiers during the season. Collingwood did it twice. They all made the finals. However all three also lost once during the season to the eventual wooden-spooners, Sth Melbourne. South’s only other win for the year was against Geelong who finished 2nd last.

2) Seven teams – Adelaide, Collingwood, Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn, St Kilda, and the Western Bulldogs have defeated all other opponents at least once in the last three seasons. Geelong is undefeated against seven opponents while Melbourne has seven opponents that they have not defeated in the last three seasons.

3) Since 1987, the team with the highest percentage of their matches as ‘visitor’ to Kardinia Park has been West Coast.

4) Collingwood first lost more matches in a season than they won in 1940.

5) To the end of 2010, North Melbourne has won the highest percentage of matches against the teams that joined the League after 1986.

More details at my website.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Anyone know how many times a team has won 3 qtrs yet didn't win the game has happened? I wonder if it happens a lot more regularly than i had once thought.

Was just looking at the Swans QF against the Bulldogs in 1997 where we managed to win every quarter after quarter time yet lose the game by 35 points thanks to a 9 goal to 0 start by the Bulldogs.

Is it possible to break down the stat in what the losing qtr was for the team that lost?

Won first three quarters but lost the match - 80 occurrences - three in 2010. (One in 2009 - the Grand Final). More info:

Won last three quarters but lost match - 74. (Last R14, 2009 - Geelong v St Kilda.)

Won all but the 2nd quarter but lost match - 106. (Last R19 2010 - West Coast v Brisbane.

Won all but the 3rd quarter but lost match - 97. (Last R10 2009 - Fremantle v Richmond.

Re: Post 5 random (obscure) stats

Cheers mate. :thumbsu: Some great info there. It has indeed happened more times than i had thought.
