He got one behind by scoring a try. Or would some count that as a "rushed" behind although it was scored by a member of the attacking team?

Lots of ways to score behinds without kicking the ball.

A failed handball to a teammate?

The one which boggles me (and is at your site) is that it's the first time WCE have scored 20+ goals in three straight matches.

If you stretch it back to the H&A season for 2011 (ignoring finals), it goes to four (scored 22.13 vs Adelaide in Rd 24).

Never ignore the finals as matches.

Collingwood and Carlton so far in 116 seasons have only done it three times consecutively too. Carlton on 5 occasions (1979, 1980, 1982, 1985, 2000) and Collingwood on 4 occasions (1981, 1991, 1993, 2010). Geelong had 3 consecutive 20 goal scores first in 1932. They've also had 3 consecutive in 1989, 1991, 1995, 2007, and 2008. They had 6 consecutive in 1992 (League most), and a separate 5 consecutive in 1989.

Are you boggled by West Coast's precociousness or tardiness at this feat.?

More about 20 goals.

Just had a glance at West Coast's 3-0+ starts, 8 times from 26 seasons is a good strike rate. Once they get to 3-0, they usually tend to go on with it more often than not, especially recently. Most importantly, West Coast has NEVER missed finals after a 3-0 start.

ie.
1988 3-0 start
1991 12-0 start
1995 3-0 start
1999 6-0 start
2005 8-0 start
2006 5-0 start
2007 6-0 start
2012 3-0 and running

Interesting to note that they had a 15-0 record in Rnd 1-5 from 2005-07. WCE also seem to win Rnd 1 most years, and are seldom flogged in Rnd 1(11 goal loss to Geelong in 2001). Seems they tend to jump out of the blocks and hang around the top of the table until mid-season (even in other years such as 1997, 2002 & 2003), then maybe the cumulative amount of travel brings them down as the season wears on.

West Coast have won 19 of their first matches of the season.
Average winning margin 26 points.

Average losing margin in their 7 losses has been 19 points.
The biggest loss being 66 points v Geelong at Kardinia Park round 1, 2001.

West Coast have played 12 opening matches of the season at Subiaco Oval. They have won all 12. Average winning margin 27 points.

Thanks! Like the last bit:thumbsu: So in Round 1 it equates to 100% at home and 50% away. Not a bad record. If clubs can lay claim to certain rounds, maybe we have the best Rnd 1 record? I also noticed that in 1994 we lost our first game, but that was in Round 2.

So far in 2012 (R3).

51.85% of matches have been decided by 40 points or more.

Highest in a complete season:

44.20% in 1979
43.78% in 1996
43.13% in 1987
42.86% in 2011

The first season where more than 40% of matches were decided by
40 points or more was 1963 - 40.18%.

Lowest was 1922 - 9.21%. A year the wooden-spooner won
matches against all the finalists except the Premiers.

The highest percentage for a whole season was 25.47% (41/161) in 1990.
In 2011 23.47% of matches had 10 goal or more margins (46/196).
I recall that 1986 had the highest average winning margin per game of over 40 points. The strange thing is that 1986 and 1990:
  1. both had no matches where both teams scored 20 goals for the only times between 1978 and 1994
  2. both had only one goal tally of four and none of fewer
In contrast, the three years from 1987 to 1989 averaged eight goal tallies of four or fewer per season and at the other extreme four games where both teams scored 20 goals.

Is this a reflection of how wet weather made the game before Docklands more interesting and less predictable. At all events, it shows how margins can be as large or bigger even with fewer “extreme” scores!

Here's a useless stat. Longest goal droughts (#games) for Dustin Fletcher. Approaching his 4th then 3rd longest droughts. He's averaging just one goal per year over the last 10 years.

Code:
44 - R16, 2004 to R 3, 2007
33 - R12, 2002 to R12, 2004
26 - R 8, 2008 to R19, 2009
18 - R 2, 2010 to R 3, 2011
17 - R 2, 1993 to GF , 1993
17 - R 5, 2011 to R 2, 2012*
16 - R22, 1998 to R19, 1999

LOL, I post this random stat and then a week later he kicks a goal!

The last 3 Carlton Essendon games (including todays game) have had at least one of the teams finish with a score 79.

Last time Carlton lost with a score of 79 and have had the opposition win with a score of 109 was Round 1 2008 vs Richmond.

In both the Brisbane Gold Coast and West Coast Hawthorn games, the home side's registered 107 kicks and 94 handballs for 201 possessions.

Also, the West Coast 0 12 12 Hawthorn 2 7 19 1/2 Time combination is the lowest 1/2 Time score since Hawthorn 2 6 18 v St Kilda 2 4 16.

At 31 points it's actually the lowest 1/2 time aggregate score since round round 18, 2004

Adelaide 0.10-10 v Nth Melbourne 1.8-14

St Kilda v Geelong round 1 2011 was as low as the Hawthorn St Kilda match

Adelaide v North in 2009 - 32 points - was lower than the Hawthorn St Kilda match.

Adelaide v Melbourne in 2009 - 33 points -was lower than the Hawthorn St Kilda match.
