Have done. Inconclusive.

With Scrimshaw a late replacement for Puopolo, I'm guessing that knocks that number 1 ranking out of the ballpark there Ron.

In fact, with an 11 year differential between them, it knocks this game off that table completely, I'm thinking.

Dropped to 20th all time, 27.95.

Rounds 1-3 have been Hawthorn's three oldest teams, ahead of the 2015 GF at 27.83.

Jack Steven coming in for the Cats actually makes them marginally older than Hawthorn @ 27.97 (18th oldest).

Rounds 2 & 3 have been the two oldest teams ever for Geelong.

Richmond were runners up in the highest scoring grand final and lowest scoring grand final 45 years apart.

The Tigers went down to Collingwood 2.13-25 to 1.7-13 in teeming rain in 1927, and amazingly lost by 27 points in 1972 to Carlton 22.18-150 to 28.9-177. It was the Tigers' highest score of that season and interestingly the only time the Blues have ever been in a match with a 300 point aggregate score.

Yet the Suns are second on the ladder @ 23.95 after duping the AFL into giving them pity picks.

Fascinating stats there RTB....i'm guessing with wartime perhaps claiming many very young men going off to do their duty, that left perhaps fewer younger players to come through, and perhaps some older ones to hang on? Many of those highest averages are in the war years for both world wars.

At the completion of round 5, Collingwood are currently outside the final 8 but their percentage of 133.5 is better than all the teams inside the 8 except one (Port 170.1). Second-placed Brisbane Lions have the next best percentage (129.6). The last time this occurred was after round 17, 1997 when it was Collingwood again. The Magpies were in 11th position and had a percentage of 116.8 which was bettered only by Adelaide in 2nd position (126.9). The next best percentage was 116.5 by St. Kilda in 3rd.

Complete random observation at the freak John Coleman was in his time.
In 1950 season, the whole Hawthorn side for full season kicked 136 goals.
The star full forward of the league that season of John Coleman kicked 120 goals himself.

So just made me randomly have a look at his general playing stats.
One thing I notice is on debut he kicked 12 goals.
In his second last ever game he kicked 14 goals.
He just must have been an absolute freak talent beyond what many of us can imagine.

Teams who kicked the most goals in a home-and-away season and failed to make the finals:
1913 - Geelong (172), finished 5th (tied goals with South Melbourne)
1914 - St. Kilda (174), finished 7th (after finals, still had 7 more than South Melbourne!)
1932 - Geelong (260), finished 5th (highest percentage by a team that missed finals: 139.7%)
1936 - St. Kilda (271), finished 7th
1948 - Richmond (275), finished 5th
1949 - Richmond AND Geelong (246), finished 6th and 8th respectively
1951 - Richmond (222), finished 6th
1952 - Essendon (228), finished 8th
1961 - Essendon (209), finished 7th (tied goals with Melbourne)
1968 - Hawthorn (279), finished 6th
1970 - Hawthorn (334), finished 8th

Teams who kicked the least goals in a home-and-away season and made finals:
1916 - Fitzroy (96) (not fair, everybody made finals)
1999 - Port Adelaide (260), finished 7th

Some people consider him to be the GOAT.

Some people consider him to be the GOAT.
He may well be.
Most of my own generation consider Lockett or Gary Ablett the biggest star forwards we seen in our time of watching but everything I heard about Coleman suggests he was probably as big as star as them and probably more. Imagine he must have been awesome to watch in action.
