Tonight's Port Adelaide-Footscray game marked 11 games this season with a combined score of fewer than 100.

I reckon at the end of the home and away season we could very well be looking up similar scoring stats, such as:

How many teams did not accumulate 1000 Points For this year?
How many teams did not concede 1000 points this year?
How many teams did not kick a century score in a game this year?
For how many consecutive rounds did no team kick a century score in a game?
For how many consecutive games did no team kick a century score?

It has been done before only once, by St. Kilda in 1901 in an eight club competition. The Saints finished 1—16, although only one game behind Carlton whose 2—15 record would remain their worst for 101 years. Melbourne suffered a near approach in 1974 when they were six points clear last after six rounds in a twelve-club competition. The Demons would finish 3—19, still six points clear last.

I think Melbourne of 1981 ( under Barassi ) deserves a mention in this context

They finished last with a record of 1-21 - and there solitary win for the year - they beat Footscray by a single point

I mean how close can you come to having a clean sheet of 22 losses for the year

Fair dinkum - blooody hell

Actually it turns out it was after a Robert Flower mark in the last minute of the match. In a season review on the radio the win was ascribed to a kick after the siren, and that's what I always believed.

Something I looked for just now: is there currently a player who has played a senior game in all eight states and territories, as well as China and New Zealand?

The following players currently still active have both overseas nations, but are missing a state:
Jack Billings, Josh Bruce, Jarryn Geary, Tim Membrey, Jack Newnes, Tom Rockliff, Sebastian Ross, Shane Savage, and Jack Sinclair. All of them have yet to play a game at Traeger Park or Marrara Oval, except for Tom Rockliff, who only needs a game at Manuka Oval.

But the first player to do it could very well be Jack Newnes, now at Carlton. It was announced today that the Gold Coast team will be playing at Marrara Oval for Sir Doug Nicholls Round, but the opponent is yet to be announced. Gold Coast have not played Carlton yet this season, and Newnes has not yet missed a game this season.

Well how about THAT?

Shaun Hart is the only person to play in a premiership team for the Brisbane Bears and the Brisbane Lions.

Hart was a member of the Brisbane Bears 1991 Reserve Grade team that defeated Melbourne in the Grand Final, and a decade later he was Norm Smith Medalist in the Brisbane Lions comfortable Grand Final victory over Essendon in 2001.

Tonight marks Richmond's first "home" game in Queensland vs Gold Coast since R16 2013.

In all of Richmond's "home" games vs Gold Coast in Queensland, they have an average winning margin of 9 points and an average losing margin of 8.5 points.

Of all the premiership players from 1897-2019, there has never been any whose surname started with U or X, the latter hardly a surprise given it was only this year that the first player with a surname starting with X (Kangaroo Tristan Xerri) made his senior debut.

Of other letters, there have just been four premiership players whose surname started with I, the most recent Steven Icke for North Melbourne in 1977. Three players with a surname starting with Q have played in premiership teams, and the most recent one Bryan Quirk from Carlton in 1968. There is only one premiership player whose surname started with Z, and this was Richmond's Eric Zshech who played in two Tiger flags way back in 1932 and 1934.

Richmond's winning score in that 2013 game was 53.

Richmond's winning score on Monday was 53.

Barry Young played 76 games for Essendon from 1994-1999, arriving the year after and departing the year before Essendon won premierships. In 1993 Young played the last of his five seasons at Richmond (which ran second last) before being a surprise delisting at the end of the year, 1993 premiers Essendon picking him up in the 1994 pre-season draft. In his career at Essendon he played in a Bombers semi final team in 1995 that was eliminated by the Tigers, and two one point losses in preliminary finals in 1996 and 1999. Due to salary cap restrictions Young crossed to Hawthorn for the 2000 season, while the Bombers went on to claim the premiership that year.

Since this post, 8 more games have been added to the list so we're at 19 games now with a combined score fewer than 100.

Barry Young holds the record for the most games (27) and most goals (17) for a player wearing jumper number 53. This was his first two years at Richmond in 1989 and 1990.

Bombers take the AFL-era record from Richmond.

Damien Hardwick is the only current coach whose winning percentage is at a career high (excluding the winless Matthew Nicks):

Barring a miracle, the Adelaide Crows will take home their first ever AFL wooden spoon this year. While Port Adelaide have also never finished last they came close in 2011, while the Crows until now have never even remotely been in danger in finishing on the bottom of the ladder.

Interestingly, NRL superpower the Brisbane Broncos are also in grave danger of collecting the 2020 wooden spoon. The Broncos like the Crows have never finished anywhere close to last in their history, but currently sit second last with 3 wins, above only Canterbury which have 2 wins. The problem for Brisbane is that while Canterbury cannot win matches (I'm wearing my Captain Obvious tee-shirt as I type this) the Bulldogs have mostly been very competitive while the Broncos have copped some massive defeats, resulting in Canterbury having a far superior points differential. Just one more win from the Bulldogs and no further wins to Brisbane will put the Broncos on the bottom of the ladder and subsequently give them the wooden spoon.

Should Adelaide finish last in 2020,it will be the third time that an interstate team has taken home its first wooden spoon in a year ending in 0. The Brisbane Bears finished last for the first time in 1990, and the West Coast Eagles were last for the first and only time in 2010. In both of these years Collingwood were premiers but I don't see it happening this season.

On July 19 Eddie Betts became the third player to kick 300 goals for two separate teams. He currently has 303 for Carlton along with 310 for Adelaide.
Tony Lockett kicked 898 for St. Kilda and 462 for Sydney while Lance Franklin currently has 364 for Sydney to accompany his 580 for Hawthorn.
