WB have won nine matches by 70 or more points since 2024 but none of them by more than 96.

I wouldn't have thought there'd be too many previous streaks involving 70+ point wins but failing to win by 100+

Happy to be wrong.

Happy that Essendon didn't break the drought.

Not sure if your Pies can have its own triple digit win this season but I was wrong today and may be wrong tomorrow.

This is a phenomenally one-sided stats sheet for a team that ultimately ended up losing the match.

Williamstown had 99 more kicks, 14 more handballs, and 83 more marks than Collingwood. When sorting individual players by fantasy points, Williamstown players occupied the entire top 10.

Despite it all, the Seagulls lost by 11 points.

Brisbane lost to Gold Coast in 2015 in a similarly lopsided game
133 more disposals (423-290)
9 of the top 11 poss getters
31 more marks
Lost by 14 points

Brie also lost the next year to West Coast with similar numbers

The Lions smashed there all time Victorian attendance record for a home and away season by around 47k previously 233,882 over 7 games in 2009 this year 280,989 over 6 games.

The Lions also take back the record for highest home and away attendance for a non-vic club with the crowd last night.

In all honesty that was 2015-16 Brisbane.
Kicking or handballing it straight to an opposition player still counts as a disposal.

So true it seems

Here’s a couple more examples
2016 v Freo
10 more posessions
30 more marks
Lost by 14 goals

2017 v Port Adelaide
14 more posessions
Lost by 14 goals

It might be topical soon so

Last-placed teams beating first-placed teams (incomplete):
Round 24, 1991: Fitzroy def West Coast
Round 9, 1995: St Kilda def Carlton
Round 3, 1997: St Kilda def Collingwood
Round 9, 2005: Collingwood def West Coast

Any other examples? Those are all I know.

Prior to the 1991 instance, there was Round 20, 1989: Brisbane Bears def Hawthorn

Round 1 -1971 Nth MELB who finished a hopeless and distant last in 1970 , and of course Carlton won that come from behind GF in 1970

Those 2 teams played the opening round at Arden St in 1971 and in a massive upset NM beat Carlton handsomely - Teddy Hopkins again came on as a reserve in that match but no Cigar this time , pretty sure Brian Dixon was coach of Nth Mth

I can even still picture the scenes Ch 2 - ABC - would cross straight to the ground when the siren rang and Roy Wright would give his summary of the game , and the vision - youd see kids kicking the ball on the ground - full of streamers and that

Different world back then - but as a kid it was very enjoyable

Bulldogs have won 8 matches this year by 70+ points. That has to be close to a record.

If it's not a record, would there be another team in the history of the competition to have won 8+ matches by 70+ points without winning a single game by 100+ points?

Geelong holds the record with 9 70+ points wins in 1992. They had 3 wins by 100+ points that year.

So no other team has won 8+ games by 70+ points without having a win by 100+ points.

If the Bulldogs miss finals, surely they'd break the record for highest percentage to miss finals ever?

I'm pretty sure Geelong holds the record in 1932 with a percentage of 139.7.

Melbourne are currently second on the list with 132.4 in 1927.

They were obviously achieved in 12 team competitions and they were the fifth ranked team so you're not exactly comparing Granny Smith with Fuji.

The Saints finished 9th in 2012 with 123.3%. That holds the record for a non-finalist in an 18 team comp and the most since the top 8 was introduced.

35Daicos these graphs and stats are beautiful reading for a Cats fan

Unrelated to the topic, but Geelong now is just 9 games shy of overtaking Essendon in overall wins, I'd hazard a guess that at the start of the 2000's, say by about 2003 the Bombers would have been over 57% and Geelong about 52%. Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon have always been the three topping the win tallies since probably before WW2, certainly by the 1950's. That I reckon is a seismic shift if it comes to pass, and the irony being it's twin brothers at the helm of the two clubs.

Not sure how this record compares to other sides, but just looking through some of my own clubs records this morning, and was amazed to see that Hawthorn haven’t been defeated in Victoria (their home state of course) by 100 points or more since 1995, where they were defeated by 102 points to Carlton at Optus Oval. Although there’s been some amazing seasons in the past 30 years, there’s also been some really ugly ones, so it’s amazing this record has lasted 30 years. In 2009 against the Dogs at Etihad, they were trailing 13.10 (88) to 0.4 (4) at half time, and the Dogs then kicked the first goal of the second half to make the margin 90 points. However, the final margin only ended up being 88 points that night!
