Re: Post your stats questions here

Trying to locate Ron's post re semi-final crowds.

This weekend we had just 45,056 + 39,596 = 84,652

While tonight's game was very interesting, I don't quite know what to think about the semi-final weekend. It's the least interesting week in the finals, and usually doesn't achieve much. Maybe with the restructuring of the finals in 2012, the 2nd weekend might be more interesting.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Mick Malthouse coached his first Brownlow Medallist (Brad Hardie) in 1985. He coached his second (Nathan Buckley) in 2003.

If Dane Swan wins on Monday night (as many expect him to), it will a 25 year gap between first and last Brownlow Medallists coached.

Is this a record?

Re: Post your stats questions here

This question will only be relevant if St Kilda make the Grand Final.

What is the track record of teams playing back-to-back Grand Finals against different teams, having lost the first one?

EDIT: have tried to get the answer myself, may not be 100% correct. Results from the last 70 years or so indicates that teams that make a 2nd grand final against a new team, after having lost the previous year, tend to win, and that Collingwood, being the incumbent (runner-up) or the challenger, tend to lose.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Can anybody scour SportingPulse and find some drawn Grand Final's this year?

Don't think there have been any this year, but here are some of the highest known scores from past drawn grand finals.

142 - S. Aust - Gawler DFL - South Gawler 21.16 (142) vs Gawler Central 21.16 (142) - 1979
129 - N.T. - Nguilla FL - Imalu 21.3 (129) vs Tapalinga 19.15 (129) - 1985-86
118 - Vic - Bass Valley-Wonthaggi FL - Wonthaggi 17.16 (118) vs Phillip Island 17.16 (118) - 1991
117 - NSW - Farrer FL - Collingullie 18.9 (117) vs M.C.U. 17.15 (117) - 1974
117 - NSW - Riverina FL - Coolamon 17.15 (117) vs East Wagga-Kooringal 18.9 (117) - 1983
111 - NSW - Riverina FL - Coolamon 16.15 (111) vs Wagga 16.15 (111) - 1985
110 - Vic - North Central FL - Charlton 17.8 (110) vs St. Arnaud 15.20 (110) - 1973
104 - S. Aust - Yorke Valley FA - Arthurton 15.14 (104) vs Paskeville 14.20 (104) - 1986
101 - Vic - Panton Hill FL - Lalor 15.11 (101) vs Hurstbridge 15.11 (101) - 1967
101 - Vic - Omeo FL - Benambra 15.11 (101) vs Swifts Creek 16.5 (101) - 2006

1977 seems to be a well known year for drawn grand finals. Apart from the VFL draw between Collingwood and North Melbourne, there was a draw in the Barossa and Light Football Association grand final between Angaston and Kapunda, the scores being 13.13 (91) apiece. And there was also a draw in the NSW rugby league grand final between St. George and Parramatta, the scores being 9 apiece.

Re: Post your stats questions here

We all know of the Bulldogs terrible record in preliminary finals.

So I ask, how many times have the Bulldogs been leading a preliminary final at half time, and what was the final result?

Of course, the Bulldogs have only played in 2 GFs, 1954 (W) and 1961 (L).

Re: Post your stats questions here

Ouch! What a terrible PF record they have! As bad as Collingwood and St Kilda's GF records.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Hawthorn (1975-1978): 447 votes

but again, includes the double-vote years

I reckon history books should halve votes in 76/77 for the sake of stats comparisons. Why on Earth they changed the system for a couple years I'll never know.
