Stats questions

Can anyone inform me of contested marks inside 50 per game and marks inside 50 per game for the entire competition, per season over the last 5 years. Please and thank you.
Hey Ron the Bear.... is the stats for this freely available? I suspect that the loose defending has reduced the number over recent years. Need to see if the numbers show that too. Cheers

Don't think these are freely available. Contested marks yes, marks inside 50 yes, contested marks inside 50 no.

What is the highest total of possessions a player has had in a game which matched his age at the time?
I can't promise that this is the answer but North's Brent Harvey had 35 in a game in 2013 Rd. 18 (aged 35y 75d):- https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/B/Brent_Harvey.html

There can't be many candidates who might have bettered this, since not that many players (especially those capable of getting 35 or more disposals in a game) have been playing aged 35 or above since these statistics have been available.

If anyone can come up with a definitive answer please do so!

Edit: I'm now fairly sure that is the right answer, but I've still only gone through it "manually", looking at all club's all-time player lists on AFL Tables, and checking anyone who played at age 35 or older (in the "statistics era").

I assume you do mean an exact match of age and disposals BTW?!

Are there any examples of 2 & 3 game players whose 2 or 3 games were all played with different clubs?

Jim Cullen played 3 games in the VFL, each of them with a different team – Essendon and South Melbourne in 1899, and Carlton in 1904.

I have my own question regarding a three-club player. Kevin Caton's VFL/AFL career consisted of 1 game with the West Coast in 1988, 9 games with Fitzroy in 1989 and 8 games with Brisbane in 1990-1991. Is his career total of 18 games the most by a player who never played 10 games with a single club?

Loss

Player|Frst Mgn|Frst Opp|Last Mgn|Last Opp|Career|Club|Gms
\White, Paul|125|Es|171|Sy|1911-1919|St|20
\Prentice, Jim|105|Me|106|NM|1971-1974|Sy|58
\Keeble, Robert|110|Sy|140|Ca|1985|St|2
\Ruffles, Tim|117|Ad|116|Ha|2009-2010|Fr|5
\Bennell, Harley|119|Ca|104|Ri|2011-2017|GC,Fr|82*

In terms of results, Keeble must have the "worst" career of all-time!

Does not seem like stats of this nature kept before 1965. So whole chunk of league history we do not know.
For example Rod McGregor was a gun midfielder for Carlton was playing when he was up to 37.
It is possible he could have had the ball 36 times or more when he was 36 but we will never know.

We are restricted to the era of stats keeping only. Before that only goals seemed to be importance to track for each player.

Yes I do mean an exact match of age and disposals, so Harvey would be the answer to my question. Thanks.

It has never happened in the AFL. On three occasions players on opposing sides have scored 10 or more goals in a match.

I could be wrong but one game I went to Silvagni and Lynch must have got close to 10 goals each in Carlton v Fitzroy game around 1993. Think SOS went to full forward late in first quarter or something and we came from behind to win by quite a lot after being 4 or 5 goals down.

Looks like you are referring to this 1993 Rd. 16 game:- https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1993/030619930717.html

Silvagni kicked 10, Lynch 6. That was the only occasion Silvagni reached 10 goals. He managed 10.6, so it could have been a lot better! Lynch's best ever tally was 8 (x4).

Yeah was just checking myself. Lynch did not quite get to 10. For some reason I thought he had. Might have got the 6 in first half to make me think he was going to.

Round: 16 Venue: Princes Park Date: Sat, 17-Jul-1993 2:00 PM Attendance: 24987
Fitzroy 3.3.21, 10.6.66, 11.8.74, 14.11.95
Carlton 2.4.16, 7.8.50, 18.14.122, 27.19.181

16 points down at half time and won by 86 points.

Lynch, Alastair 10 kicks 7 marks 2 handballs 6 goals 2 behinds
Silvagni, Stephen 20 kicks 11 marks 1 handball 10 goals 6 behinds

This modest match report says "A hamstring injury to full-forward Alastair Lynch robbed Fitzroy of a mobile focal point for most of the match, but the former Tasmanian still managed to finish with six goals."

Edit: 1993 was an astonishing year for goalkicking. 16 times a player kicked 10+ goals in a game, the most ever in a season (11 in 1991 is the next best). It's only happened 18 times from 2000 onwards.

1993 was also the year of the famous shoot-out between Ablett (14 goals - on the losing side) and Salmon (10 goals) in the Rd. 6 Essendon vs. Geelong clash.

Has there ever been an occasion where 2 players from the same team in a single game have kicked 10 goals each?
In 1993 (Rd. 6) Adrian McAdam kicked 10 and John Longmire 9 for North Melbourne against Sydney. That's the nearest I can see to this being achieved.

What is the all-time record streak for a team winning its opening round match of the season?

And the all-time record losing streak?

What are the best current streaks for both?

And what are the best records in each category for the last round match of the season (regardless of whether the team played finals or not)?

Do not know full answers but off top of my head I remember going into final round of 1981 season, Essendon were on a winning streak of 15 games. I think Geelong beat them. That most likely best winning streak for the last round match of season question.

I should have clarified - what is the record for consecutive seasons where a team has won its final home and away match of the season?
