After that stat looked up Carlton and we have a winning record at Kardinia Park (24-21) and an even record at Corio (20-20-1). Does any club have a winning record over Geelong at BOTH venues?

Collingwood is the only other visiting club that has a positive record at either venue - 51% at Corio and 54% at KP. And they're protecting it well!

Can anyone determine the smallest career goal tally to include one ten-goal haul?
And then, what is the smallest career goal tally to include two ten-goal hauls, three ten-goal hauls, and so on?

North Melbourne beat Geelong by 8 points at Corio Oval in its first ever VFL match in 1925 before losing its next 23 against the Cats. Their next win was in 1939.

Gold Coast/Port Adelaide is a clear second.

Three teams lost their next 8 after winning their first encounter:
Brisbane/Melbourne
St.Kilda/Richmond*
Western Bulldogs/West Coast*

Next best is 4:
Collingwood/Port Adelaide*
Fremantle/Geelong
Gold Coast/Brisbane
GWS/Gold Coast
GWS/Port Adelaide
North Melbourne/Western Bulldogs**

* against expansion clubs
** both new clubs

Question - how many clubs in the history of VFL/AFL defeated Geelong - in their 1st match against the Cats

I know quite a few of those expansion clubs did - even the Brisbane Bears ( at KP ) and Fremantle and a few of the others

St.Kilda has recovered from 0-8 to go 10-1 beginning with Richmond in 1908, missing on Fremantle.

Essendon missed only on Collingwood and is 17-0 since.

The Richmond vs. St Kilda match played in mid April was never going to challenge some of the high scoring matches played from the mid 1970s to mid 1990s, but the 182-point match aggregate of this match (Richmond 20.14-134 d. St Kilda 7.6-48) was 98 points more than the very low scoring match two months later in which the Saints belted the Tigers 9.8-62 to 2.10-22, an aggregate of just 84 points.

Does anyone have any spectacular examples of teams that played a high scoring and a low scoring match against each other in the same season?

Thanks Ron the Bear.

From 1990 onwards, the biggest differential I can remember between two clubs in successive meetings although in different seasons were the Bulldogs and Swans in 1991 and 1992. The teams slogged it out in teeming rain for a 5.5-35 to 4.11-35 draw at the Western Oval in Round 12 1991, an aggregate of 70 points. At their next meeting at a sunny SCG in Round 4 1992, the teams staged a Sunday afternoon shoot-out, the Bulldogs running away from the Sydney Swans in the final term of the high-scoring match to win 25.14-164 to 17.17-119, an aggregate of 283 points.

Last night Richmond's free kicks for count (23) was higher than their total score (22).
How many times has this happened before and what was the biggest differential?

From 1965 on (fairly full game stats published for each match), there would be at least one instance for many years running I would think. Don't know yet of biggest differential, but researching the subject tonight have come across this 1976 match - Footscray 35 d Fitzroy 34 - where both sides had more "frees for" than their total score: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1976/060719760821.html

Someone asked this question elsewhere last night. It wasn't uncommon up to the early 90's when free kick counts were often double those of today.

165 times in all, but only six times since 1996.

Record is South Melbourne 72 frees, 33 points.

NB There are eight matches like the one mentioned above by the croucher, where both teams had more frees than points scored. Highest scoring among these was Essendon 63 d. South Melbourne 51

I actually went to that game - came down on the Swans supporters bus ( subsidised cost - cheaps as chips with 1 night accomodation - just to watch some live AFL )

Footscray wernt much chop and were beatable - this was the very early days of sports betting - what i had to do - was i had to go to the Flemington racecourse ( which is right next door to the Western Oval ) at about 11am Sat morning - where the sports bookies were located ( they had to be on a racecourse that was the legislation ) and i had $200 on the Swans at 7 to 2

It wasnt teaming rain - it wasnt muddy - but the grass was long - and it was an absolute bog - you could lose both boots . At 3/4 time the Swans had their nose in front and were coming home with a 3 goal breeze . Given the ground conditions and the wind - it was nearly impossible to get the ball up the other end . I bailed with about 6 minutes to go - couldnt stand the tension any longer - thats the power of money -hah- but McPherson with 5 seconds to go kicked a torp to scramble a point to tie the scores - i got half the value of my betting ticket as a result

In the AFL era, what’s the longest a coach has coached for before he won a premiership?

Last week in the North Melbourne vs Brisbane Lions game Oscar McInerney had 33 hit outs, but Todd Goldstein bettered this with 53 hit outs. What are some of the highest hit out totals in a game which finished second to a higher total?

What are the 10 or 15 lowest scores to have resulted in a victory of 50 or more points?
This shows the "top 14" lowest scores where a team has won by 50+ points. 12 of them occurred in the first 10 seasons of the competition, 1 in 1953 and 1 in 2019.:

In the recent Gold Coast vs Richmond game both teams had 2 goals at quarter-time, 5 goals at half-time, then 8 goals at three quarter-time and then finished with 10 goals each at full time. I realise that with nearly 16,000 games of AFL football this may be a longshot, but is anybody able to determine how many times this has happened before?
At the end of each quarter Gold Coast led, their lead being determined by the fact they had kicked more behinds than Richmond.

The Richmond vs Port Adelaide preliminary final last year was such a match.
