After checking some newspaper reports, it does not seem as though there was a designated coach for Victoria against Bendigo in 1960. I think this side would have been a B team rather than a C team as the Victorian side who played Tasmania in 1960 played on June 13. The Bendigo game took place on June 25. The "Bendigo Advertiser" mentions that Bert Chadwick was manager of the side against Bendigo, with other officials including E. McCutchon, G. Huggins and E. Fordham. The captain, Neil Roberts, was mentioned in the match report.

That's a study in itself - the relative reluctance of the Victorian clubs to give up coaches to state games until ending the problem by appointing Bill Goggin in 1987 as full-time exclusive state coach.

Shit, didn't even realise we had a shit score the ANZAC Day before the destruction of Gold Coast.

If there are more superlatives then that's how I would be describing your awesomeness.

This might be a tricky one. What are the top 25 goal kickers for a five year period? (Ie, Lloyd 2000-2004 450 goals, Franklin 2007-2011 399 goals, Lockett 1991-1995 478, Dunstall 1988-1992 580, Dunstall 1992-1996 537, Ablett 1992-1996 516, Coleman 1949-53 495) The same player can appear twice.

Looking at St. Kilda's current position on the ladder prompts the question: has it happened before that a team who was seventh on the ladder after four rounds also possessed a percentage exceeding 150?

^ It's not imperceivable that their percentage won't improve this weekend.

But they won't remain 7th, they'll move up to 5th or 6th.

Essendon could be 3rd with a percentage of 115.

St Kilda could be 6th with a percentage of 160+.

No. Previous highest was Carlton (130.32, 7th, 4-1-1-2) in 1914. Next was Western Bulldogs (129.59, 9th, 4-2-2-0) in 2011.

Only Collingwood in 1903 had a higher percentage (162.15%) on 2 wins and 2 losses than St Kilda does in 2012.

If last years progressive ladder was done on match/win percentage and not match points, Essendon in round 4 would have been 7th with a percentage of 131.97%. (The Bulldogs had only played 3 matches at that stage and would have been 5th with a match/win percentage of 66.67.)

I believe that Trevor Barker has the unenviable record of most games played (230) without playing a final.

Who played the most number of games before their first final. Off the top of my head I thought Bob Skilton might do it. I think his first final was game 218. Has anyone beaten that?

Chris Newman wouldn't be far away from either record.

Can someone complete this table re games played on ANZAC Day prior to 1995? I don't think there are that many to be honest. First two years I could find were 1914 and 1960.

No matches were played on the the 25th of April from 1915 to 1959.
(There was no such thing as "ANZAC day" before 1915).

1960 to 1994 there were 78 matches played on ANZAC day, the 25th of April. Full 6 match rounds being played in 1964, 1970 and 1981. Do you really want the complete list of matches posted here? They can be easily found by looking for 25 April each season on AFL Tables.

Geez that was silly of me

There were a lot more ANZAC Day games in the '80s than I would have thought. I'm just trying to see what basis Kevin Barlett has in saying that prior to 1995 there was already an ANZAC Day tradition (of playing football).

1916-1926 the only matches played in April were on Saturday 26 April in 1924. An ANZAC Day Observation Bill passed through the Victorian Parliament at the end of 1925 after much opposition from a number of employer and manufacturing associations.
