Perhaps people have kept their own team's info?

Thanks Paul, SJ, stemline.
I had expected there would be more easily accessible records, but apparently not. Given the sub usually has little over a quarter to play it has an impact on their averages. I would also like to be able to see how often a given player has been used as a sub.

Date and teams involved in last final in Victoria not played at the MCG, Docklands or VFL/AFL Park?

1945 "Bloodbath" GF, Carlton d. South Melbourne at Princes Park, Sep 29 1945, att. 62,986

15 finals were played at PP. Other grounds used for finals are Junction Oval (6), Brunswick Street Oval (4), Lakeside Oval (4), East Melbourne Cricket Ground (3), Victoria Park (2), Corio Oval (1) & Windy Hill (1).

Busy today, will have a go at some of the other questions later.

1. Essendon went 8-3 for the first half of the season then 3-8 for the second half, for a -5 differential (WCE in 2000 were -5.5). For all 20 or 22 game seasons, what are the best and worst differentials?

There are a number of ways to look at this. Here's one way:

10 biggest decreases in match/win percentage between 11 and 22 matches played.

West Coast 2000 -25.00
Essendon 2012 -22.73
Melbourne 1973 -22.73
Richmond 2003 -22.73
St Kilda 1989 -22.73
Nth Melbourne 1989 -22.73
WB/Footscray 2012 -22.73
Melbourne 1988 -22.73
Melbourne 1971 -20.45
Richmond 1995 -20.45

While everyone was watching the Bombers in 2012 - the Dogs relatively had an equally bad second half season.

In 1948 in a 19 round season Fitzroy dropped 41.52% between 9 and 19 matches played going from 8-1 to 9-10. By these calculations this is worst 2nd half fade out in the history of the League.

10 biggest increases in match/win percentage between 11 and 22 matches played.

Collingwood 1991 25.00
Fitzroy 1984 22.73
Geelong 1972 22.73
WB/Footscray 1980 22.73
West Coast 1989 22.73
West Coast 2004 22.73
Carlton 1998 22.73
Brisbane 2001 22.73
Port Adelaide 2000 20.45
Richmond 2008 20.45

In the 20 round 1969 season Fitzroy improved 25% between match 10 and 20 going from 1-9 to 7-13.

Alrighty, so I am thinking of doing a bit of research into footy odds and so I was wondering, is there any way to get the entire 2012 or 2011 AFL home and away season results WITH odds of the eventual winner? It would mean a lot if someone could help me out here.

Amazing.

I've run out of superlatives.

1. Essendon went 8-3 for the first half of the season then 3-8 for the second half, for a -5 differential (WCE in 2000 were -5.5). For all 20 or 22 game seasons, what are the best and worst differentials?

Wow, great thread. I have so many stats questions for you guys. I've always had to look things up manually before.

I was thinking this year with a 5 game win split between port Adelaide and Brisbane, if this is the biggest mid table split in competition history? ie. not between 1st and 2nd or last and 2nd last as happened in both instances in 2000. I can't remember off hand such a season which resulted in 2 groups separated by such a large amount of wins.

Interesting observation from http://footystats.freeservers.com/Daily/Diary.html

Adelaide's 5.12 was the lowest ever score for a Qualifying Final. Which makes me wonder, is it the lowest ever score for a team with a double chance (post-1971)? Where would it rank post-1930 for a non-elimination final?
Richmond in 1995 scored 6.4-40 v Geelong in the Preliminary Final. Richmond had a double chance being one of the two highest placed losers of the Qualifying Finals.
Essendon in 1990 with the double chance scored 5.11-41 in the Grand Final.

Teams with the double chance 1931-1971 that scored less than or equal to 42 points:

Richmond 1933 - 4.5-29 in the Grand Final.
Collingwood 1958 - 4.9-33 in the 2nd Semi-Final.
Collingwood 1955 - 5.6-36 in the Grand Final
Carlton 1959 - 4.13-37 in the 2nd Semi-Final.
Collingwood 1952 - 5.10-40 in the Grand Final
Fitzroy 1960 - 4.16-40 in the 2nd Semi-Final.
Collingwood 1965 - 6.6-42 in the Preliminary Final.

Let me reiterate, a lower score in a non-elimination final, that is, they still have their double chance, thus, not a grand final, prelim, etc. Looks like Adelaide would be 4th on the list, pretty damning. Top two, double chance, home ground advantage against an interstate team, one of the worst finals efforts ever.

To meet the criteria "score in a non-elimination final" under the Page-McIntyre System 1931-1971 then that match is the 2nd Semi-Final between first and second on the final ladder and only that match.
Also under that criteria Adelaide's score is the lowest in any "non-elimination final" 1972-2012, including the "qualifying finals" 1994-1999 that had an "elimination" or "non-elimination" status depending on the results of the other "qualifying finals".

Adelaide's score of 5.12-42 is the 4th lowest in any final under the current finals system and lowest finals score of any team finishing in the top 4 under the current finals system.

Was just watching the replay of Swans vs Crows game from the weekend and one of the commentators said that there hadn't been a goalless quarter by a team in a final since 1966 (Saints vs Essendon prelim)..is that true or another bs stat they made up? If so, pretty amazing then that we had two teams go goalless in the first quarters of the next two matches!

I believe that was both teams were goalless in the quarter

Collingwood were goalless in the last quarter of last years GF
There have been 16 finals where both teams were goalless in a quarter - the last being the 1966 Preliminary Final - 3rd quarter: St Kilda 0.0-0 v Essendon 0.5-5.
Before that that, the 1956 1st Sem-Final - Last quarter: WB/Footscray 0.5-5 v Geelong 0.1-1. The others are all before 1928.

Since 1966 there have been 109 finals' scorelines with at least one goalless quarter including the 2011, 2010 (drawn) and 2009 Grand Finals.
