Re: Post your stats questions here

I was looking up some stats then found something rather surprising.

Obviously Collingwood is the best performed team this year, followed by Geelong. But who are the two equal 3rd best teams in terms of W/L record over the past 21 games they have played?

Yes it's kind of a fun/trick question.

Re: Post your stats questions here

No matter which way you look at it, Essendon is having a filthy year. Making finals last year was an aberration and we greatly overachieved.

Everyone knows how bad our defence is, but how about our offence? Monfies is our leading goalkicker with just 24 goals this year, 10 of those in the last 5 games.

I assume 24 is the lowest of all 16 clubs. Have many teams in recent years not had a single player kick 25 goals?

Lindsay Thomas has 29 at North.

Last club to have a leading goalkicker with 24 or less was Fitzroy in its final year (Anthony Mellington 22). Chris Johnson and Brad Boyd kicked 24 apiece the previous year.

Since then, the lowest has been Justin Leppitsch (26, 1998) and Brad Miller (26, 2008).

Neil Balme led Richmond's goalkicking with 34 in 1973 - a premiership year.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Carlton may have to go back to Perth next week having already played there last night. Has any non-WA team played in Perth in consecutive weeks? Perhaps twice in 3 weekends? Whatever the case, what is the shortest span of time a non-WA team has made the trip?

Re: Post your stats questions here

Thanks. Yeah I remember the Geelong one. But the Bears fixture in 1995 is appalling.

Might as well ask the other question then. How about consecutive games in SA for non-SA teams?

From memory the Bears under Robert Walls decided to spend the whole week in Perth, to avoid two sets of cross-country travel. Didn't work for them as they were well and truly beaten. However it could it have helped the side later in the year as the Bears flew home and made the finals, and pushed Carlton closer than any other finalist did in their game, losing by just 13 points.

Re: Post your stats questions here

In terms of points per day, is this the 'sharpest' turnaround in result between two teams?

Eg. 10 September 1989 - Essendon defeated Geelong by 76 points
23 September 1989 - Geelong defeated Essendon by 94 points

That is a turnaround of 170 points in 13 days - or 13.1 point turnaround per day.

Geelong in 1968 had a turnaround v St Kilda of 95 points in 7 days from losing round 20 to St Kilda on 31/8/1968 by 51 pts. to defeating St Kilda by 44 pts in the 1st semi-final on 7/9/1968. That's a 13.6 pts per day turnaround.

That's the first one that came to mind. I haven't done an exhaustive search and aren't currently set up to find this original stat idea quickly.

Maybe someone else can see if 13.6 pts. per day is the most?

Re: Post your stats questions here

These questions are inspired by the fact that the scores are tied at quarter time in tonight's semi-final.

1. What is the highest quarter time score where the scores were tied?
2. What is the highest half time score where the scores were tied?
3. What is the highest three quarter time score where the scores were tied?
4. What is the highest final score where the scores were tied?

5. What is the highest quarter time score where the margin was 1 point?
6. What is the highest half time score where the margin was 1 point?
7. What is the highest three quarter time score where the margin was 1 point?
8. What is the highest final score where the margin was 1 point?

Top 5 for each would be appreciated, thanks.
