Re: Post your stats questions here

What is the record for the most number of Brownlow votes across a four year span? Ablett polled 98 from 2007-2010.

Using the following adjustments suggested by Peter Blair in The History Of The Brownlow Medal
- votes under the one-vote system prior to 1931 to be multiplied x 4.8
- votes under the two-umpire system of 1976 & 77 to be halved, gives

Code:
Votes Player Seasons
---------------------------------
115.2 Greeves, Edward 1924-27
105.6 Greeves, Edward 1925-28
105.6 Warne-Smith, Ivor 1926-29

 77 Greig, Keith 1973-76

Following on from that, do Geelong now hold the record for most team votes over a four year period with 420?

Re: Post your stats questions here

In 1993 Gary Ablett scored 124 goals from 233 kicks (53%).

Has anyone else managed over 50% in a single season?

What are the all time best seasons for this stat (for say minimum of 20 goals)?

Re: Post your stats questions here

How many players have had 2 stints at the same club, that is, they played for one club, went off to player for one or more other clubs, then returned to a club they had already played for?

For example, Paul Salmon (ES:1983-1995, HW:1996-2000, ES:2002).

Re: Post your stats questions here

Disregarding debutants, which players have had the longest number of games off between playing a grand final and their previous match?

St Kilda's Steve Baker has missed 11 games but has been selected for the Grand Final.

David O'Halloran missed 25 games before he was selected for the 1985 Grand Final.

Re: Post your stats questions here

I watched TFS last night and when they were introducing Mick Malthouse they mentioned he had won a Premiership PLAYING for Richmond and then won two COACHING the WCE.

I was thinking afterwards who are the players/coaches that have played and coached in seperate Premership teams, and who tops the list? Just off the top of my head I'd be saying Leigh Matthews would be pretty high up there playing in four Premiership for Hawthorn then coaching another four with Collingwood and Brisbane.

Would be interesting to see the data of Hudson, Coleman, McKenna and Coventry if data exists.

Many of the switches involving Geelong players were due to the club going into wartime recess.

Yep, would be interesting though I don't know if any numbers exist, certainly from Coleman's era and before. A publication called Footy Week ran for a year in 1965, containing basic stats - K,M,HB etc. I can recall reading seasons' totals for kicks in the mid-70's which were semi-official. The poster known as worbod has put up some interesting data - perhaps he can help.

I'd be interested to see the numbers for Michael Roach between 1979-81; he had an accuracy of around 75% in those years and would often return stats of 5 kicks for 5.0, or 8 kicks for 7.1, etc.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Thanks Ron the Bear. Yeh your second post answered the question I was asking. I tried to word my question to only get results like Matthews and Barrasi, not just players like Tuck who didnt coach but played in heaps of Premierships.

Interesting to note that none of the players/coaches to achive this feat, and play in two or more Premierships did it with two different clubs. This leads to a second question how many players have played in a Premiership at two differnt clubs??

Thanks again for the outstanding work. :):thumbsu:

Re: Post your stats questions here

Thanks Ron the Bear. Yeh your second post answered the question I was asking. I tried to word my question to only get results like Matthews and Barrasi, not just players like Tuck who didnt coach but played in heaps of Premierships.

Interesting to note that none of the players/coaches to achive this feat, and play in two or more Premierships did it with two different clubs. This leads to a second question how many players have played in a Premiership at two differnt clubs??

Thanks again for the outstanding work. :):thumbsu:

* There was no GF in 1897 or 1924. Fitzmaurice played every match in 1924 except for Round 1, but Leach only played four matches (Rounds 9-12) in 1897.

Edmonds is unique in playing in a winning grand final against his future premiership club. Drohan, Grace and Leach all went on to play in winning grand finals against their old side.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Thanks for that Ron. Who knows Damien Hardwick could be the first player/coach to play at two different clubs for two Premierships and then take a club to a Premiership as coach. Unlikly but you never know, Leigh Matthews took the Lions from 16th to 4th in a year and to a Premiership in 3 years.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Time for a Grand Final stats question!

This has only happened in 1914, 1917, 1944, 1963, 1980, 1993 and now, 2010.

WHAT DO THESE GRAND FINALS HAVE IN COMMON? Answer after the Grand Final if nobody gets it.

Answer: Both the Grand Finalists who played that day had played in a draw with each other/another club. 1993 is special because Essendon and Carlton drew each other and later met in the Grannie.

What do you know? Special coincidence! This Grand Final WAS a draw!

Geelong and Hawthorn also drew each other in 1963 and later met in the GF.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Collingwood's inside 50 differential was +27 today.

How does that rank for teams that failed to win the match?

Re: Post your stats questions here

I meant for any game, not Grand Finals. I wouldn't think too many teams have had 27 more Inside 50s and not won the game.

2010 35 St Kilda 62 Collingwood

So from 2005 - 2010 (6 GFs) only once has the team with the most Inside 50s has won the game, only exception being the 07 whitewash.
