It took Hawthorn until 1942 to beat Collingwood (30th meeting) - up to then they had beaten all other opponents at least twice. With every able bodied man either in the military or work essential to the war effort - Collingwood found itself with a list with very few able to get time off to play football and had its worst season ever.

Richmond took 11 seasons before they beat Carlton for the first time (1918) - up to then they had beaten all other opponents at least 4 times.

Even harder is beating difficult opponents in consecutive matches - see Trouble Repeating the Feat.

R.R, your work along with Ron the Bear and Paul is just awesome, and keeps a numbers bloke like me reading for ages.

It may have been asked already, but i just chanced upon Andrew Mackie's career om Statsrleague, and he has a career of 137 wins and 40 losses. Of those, he has played 57 times at Skilled for 50 wins.

What would be the best win/loss records of players having played more than 50 games at a venue? Maybe if you take it to 100, although most recent Geelong players will need a career of well over 300 games to accumulate 100 games at Skilled since there's usually only 7 or 8 a season tops there. But plenty of Pies players, along with Demons, Tigers etc would have racked up 100+ games at the MCG.

Thanks for your work *Paul*....well he's close and just needs some more wins this year to make a run at Laidlaw. Surprised at how dominant the Pies of the late 80's and early 90's were at V.P with Wright up there as well. Certainly Victoria Park was a happy hunting ground for the Maggies, and not much joy for any others...

Thanks for the recognition. I can't speak for the others but I do it mainly for my own amusement, but it is good to be appreciated. Ron and Paul have all the individual player data - I couldn't cope with keeping all that up to date - they have a special dedication/madness.

Note: We refer to Geelong's home ground as Kardinia Park for historical continuity and the fact that we don't get any commission from mentioning the name of the current naming-rights owner. I see however that "Skilled" is still doing well although they haven't had the naming rights to the Kardinia Park Stadium for two seasons.

Touche'...and probably explains why i should just call it K.P i'd suggest. Old habits die hard with me....i think i'll always call Docklands 'The Dome' no matter what or who sponsors it.

This is purely for personal interest, but are any of you database guys able to tell me Footscray/Bulldog's best comebacks versus the following teams, whether they be at one of the major breaks in play, or at a specific minute mark of a particular quarter:
Brisbane, Fremantle, Port, Richmond, West Coast.

As you have stated, stats relating to progressive margins within quarters do not date back a long way, but do you happen to have any stats for the game the Bulldogs played against Geelong in round 12, 2001. We were 47 points down in the second quarter, but my most recent edition of the AFL Season Guide (2011) does not feature this comeback in its Biggest Comebacks section within its Games Records chapter.
I'm also trying to discover the minute mark of the second quarter versus North Melbourne in round 15, 2000 when we were 42 points down.

Unless it is mentioned in a published match report, you'll have to get hold of videos of this matches.

Gaze looks to be correct. Their previous best effort:- Port were 23 points down vs West Coast (2000 Rd. 14) at 1/2 time and got up by 36 points.

Port Adelaide is only the 2nd team in 14,211 matches 1897-2013 to have scored 17 or fewer points by 1/2 time, trailed by 38 points or more and still won the match.

Find out who was the first, Monday after 9.00 am at RogersResults.
