First time the wooden spooner has made finals and the premier has missed finals?
Would have got good money to say that the 2016 9-0 team would
- only just make the 2016 finals
- have win to their last game in 2017 to avoid the spoon

As well as what you said, the 2016 premier to miss finals and the 2016 wooden spooner to make finals.

Goes to show that a lot can change in a short time, upwards and downwards.

Yesterday we had Franklin (10), Brown (7), and Gray (6) kick bags of 6+ - when was the last time we had three players kicked 6+ in a day? Probably not recently I'd say...
Saturday 15 April 2017 (round 4) saw Patton (GWS) kick 6, Betts (Adelaide) 6 and Tom J. Lynch (Gold Coast) 7 goals.

1999:- Adelaide dropped from 1st to 13th, Brisbane rose from last to play finals.

1922:- Richmond went from 1st to 5th and missed the finals, Essendon jumped from last to play finals.

1981:- Richmond went from 1st to 7th and missed the finals, Fitzroy went from wooden spooner to play finals.

Incidentally, the Bulldogs also missed the finals in 1955, the year after their only other premiership win.

Oh wow a lot more recently than I'd have thought, what about before that?
This appears to be the answer, obviously it doesn't happen too often:-

Saturday 13 August 2011 (Rd. 21) saw 4 players kick 6 or more goals. Eddie Betts (Carlton) kicked 6, Cyril Rioli 6 and Lance Franklin 8 (Hawthorn) and Barry Hall (Western Bulldogs) managed 6.

Has any player ever won a Brownlow Medal in the same year he moves to another club?

I.e. what could potentially happen to Martin this year?
First of all, I think Dusty will stay at Richmond.

I believe Colin Austen (HW 1949) is the only Brownlow medallist to jump ship, moving to Richmond in 1950.

Graham Moss (ES 1976) is another than did not remain, although he retired altogether from VFL football.

Brad Hardie?...1985 winner....Shipped off to Brizzy Bears.

The specific question that was asked was: Has any player ever won a Brownlow Medal in the same year he moves to another club?

Brad Hardie won the Brownlow at Footscray in 1985. He continued to play with Footscray in 1986. He did not play for Brisbane until 1987.

An addendum to Col Austen, he may have won the 1949 Brownlow Medal but he did not win it in 1949. He won it on a countback and was awarded his medal 40 years later, thankfully while he was still alive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Col_Austen

So it would seem no player has changed clubs after having knowingly won the Brownlow Medal.

Re Brad Hardie. He won the Brownlow Medal in his first year of VFL Football, polling 22 votes in 22 games.

He only polled a further 22 votes for the remainder of his 150 game career.

22 votes in 22 games = 1.00 votes per game in 1986
31 votes in 44 games = 0.70 votes per game at Footscray
13 votes in 103 games = 0.13 votes per game after leaving Footscray
0 votes in 2 games = 0.00 votes per game at Collingwood

I'm sure many would be happier if 332-gamer Justin Madden, who lost by 1 vote, had won instead.

How does Brad Hardie poll 3 votes in this game?

22 votes in 25 games = 0.88 votes per game in 1986
31 votes in 47 games = 0.66 votes per game at Footscray
22 votes in 125 games = 0.18 votes per game after leaving Footscray
13 votes in 101 games = 0.13 votes per game at Brisbane
0 votes in 2 games = 0.00 votes per game at Collingwood

I'm sure that his shock of red hair, distinctive long-sleeved Guernsey & pasty white thunder thighs, had nothing to do with that.;)

Who are the oldest VFL footballers still alive? Who are the oldest Brownlow medallists still alive?
From AFL Record Season (Guide) 2017 (page 721):-
OLDEST LIVING LEAGUE PLAYERS
Max Wilson 9/7/1914 Carlton
Ken Feltscheer 9/6/1915 Melbourne/Hawthorn
Keith Rae 30/7/1917 Carlton/Richmond
Bob Sayers 26/10/1917 Fitzroy

The umpires thought he was best on ground. People have varied opinions that's all - Martin Flanagan
(The Age) thought he was among the best four on ground so Hardie was certainly considered to have had a pretty good game.

Okay, thanks for that! I did think about saying "hope all these blokes are still with us" but decided to leave it out!! On the next page of the stats book they list the oldest living Premiership players, and Lou Richards is in second place of the four they mention!

I remember asking or talking about this ITT months ago but I'd misread the question.

BOG from the umpires seems like a shocking decision. Not 1 vote, not 2 votes, but actual BOG. 16 kicks, 2 handballs, 3 marks, 0 goals, 0 frees for.

Maybe Hardie was the daytime's Robert Klomp!

Of the oldest living premiership players, Russ Renfrey would have to be up there now wouldn't he? Are there any still alive who played in a Flag in the 40's?
