Who’s each clubs’ tallest captains ever?

Left are permanent captains; right are stand-ins (where taller than any permanent captain). NB I don't have the stand-ins for all games where the permanent captain didn't play.

I believe so. We had a rotational policy with the captaincy that year once Glass retired. He definitely got a couple of games in.

Glass missed 14 games in 2014 and I don't know any of the captains there.

2017 was Hurn and he only missed the two games.

Small question - probably been asked before, but we're up to 287 pages now!

How many times has a team defeated an opponent by 100+ points twice in the same season? And what is the largest 'combined' margin (which could involve a team winning by 160pts and 99 pts).

Also, has any team managed a 100+ reverse - ie - been beaten by 100 pts, and come back later in the season to win against the same opponent by 100+? Anyone done it in a final?

Slightly off topic, but how are the crowds for the closed doors games going to be handled? I'm calling them N/A with a disclaimer on Demonwiki, rather than zero or trying to factor in the 80 friends, family and hangers on that have been allowed in to AFLW games.

A team defeating an opponent by 100+ points twice in the same season:

Geelong vs St. Kilda, 1899 (117 & 161)
Richmond vs Footscray, 1980 (110 & 115)
Essendon vs Footscray, 1982 (109 & 146)
Geelong vs Brisbane Bears, 1991 (102 & 101)
Hawthorn vs Fitzroy, 1991 (157 & 126)

Largest combined margins:

283 Hawthorn vs Fitzroy, 1991 (157 & 126)
257 Geelong vs Brisbane Bears, 1992 (164 & 93)
255 Essendon vs Footscray, 1982 (109 & 146)
243 Richmond vs Fitzroy, 1996 (92 & 151)
234 Geelong vs West Coast, 2008 (135 & 99)
233 Adelaide vs Richmond, 1993 (94 & 139)

Due to the draw of the era, Geelong defeated St. Kilda by 325 points across three games in 1899, by margins of 47, 117 and 161.

The nearest instance of a 100+ reverse I can find was in 1992 when Geelong defeated Adelaide by 123 points in round 8 and then suffered a 91 point defeat in round 23.

Some first-game players have been allowed to have some close family members in the crowd. Will these people constitute an official crowd figure or will each crowd for the time being be automatically recorded as zero?

This should answer that: https://twitter.com/rhettrospective

That approach certainly makes sense to me.

I wonder whether the Queen and Prince Philip were counted in the crowd figure for the round 1, 1970 game at the MCG between Richmond and Fitzroy. Logically they should have been, as they sat in the crowd and watched the game (for the second half) even though they did not pay to get in.
Likewise I wonder whether Robert Menzies was counted in the crowd figures every time he drove his Bentley into Princes Park during the 1950s and 1960s.

Will the round 1 games be counted and recorded in history?

Or will they be scraped and not counted towards the figures.

For consistency's sake the round 1 games must count. The games were played and statistics were recorded. Debutants were able to have their close family in attendance, surely the meaning of this occasion cannot be taken away from them. I have seen no announcement anywhere that there is talk of scrapping the games, although I am slightly concerned Paul has not updated AFL Tables as yet.

He has now!:

I agree with your interpretation of this, by the way. There's no way they would say to the players that debuted in Rd. 1 "bad luck, but those games don't count any more"!

By my calculations Hawthorn fielded their oldest ever team against Brisbane, with an average age of 28y 43d. Was previously the 2015 GF, at 27y 303d.

Might be in this thread somewhere, but can I please get an update - what are the oldest teams for all AFL sides?

Thanks - I did scan AFL Tables but didn't see that.

I was actually after oldest team for each club though, not so much the top 10. e.g. Adelaide's oldest, Brisbane's oldest, etc.

Hawthorn's 2020 sure does stand out in that list of dates above. If this season had progressed, they may well have taken 1st on that list.

(and what do you have against Fitzroy?? ;) )

A question I have thought up during this down-time to try to challenge the database kings.

If you arrange the birth years of every VFL/AFL player in history in chronological order, what is the oldest year in which a player was born? (I'm sure "oldest year" is not very good grammar). And what is the most recent year in which players were born? And does every year in between have a player born in those years? Are there any years which feature only one player being born?
To get really finicky, are there any month-year combinations for which no player was born?

Question...

Is there a site that shows % of games won by a player?

As in whi played in the most % of wins/losses etc?

I remember Ash Hanson in 2006 played 14 games and won 14 but his career total was 64% win rate he played only 78 games though.

Im sure others were higher.

Maybe say 100 games played cut off
