Is there a way to locate the youngest selected teams - I thought there was something on Paul’s website but apparently not? Just interested to know what the youngest sekected team of all time is. I reckon it would have to be GWS in one of the games from 2012?

Awesome. Thanks for that. I must’ve spent half an hour rifling through random player stats pages. I may even have clicked on that page. Anyway as expected it was gWS but 2013 not 2012.

some of the figures in players used were astounding. In one year (I presume war affected) St Kilda had a whopping 62 players used. That’s insane. I can’t see any close to that apart from North with 50 in one season.

1911 was the year when St Kilda used 62 players, so it wasn't a war year. The club had a players strike in 1911, so that might have caused the numbers to really blow out, but the number was high for the two previous years as well:

North Melbourne are the only other club to hit the 50 mark. You probably know this, but clicking on the heading lets you see the top figure for each club (click it again to see the bottom figure):

Yep I’m pretty savvy with this site. But the more obscure stuff is difficult to find sometimes. Absolutely love it. It’s constantly open in my tabs and I refer to it all the time.

Going vack to 'Players on Losing teams polling Brownlow votes' -

1 What is the biggest margin in a game in which a player from the Losing side has polled Brownlow votes? (And, if possible, what are the margins for 'biggest loss for 1 vote, 2 votes etc).

I know Fyfe polled 3 votes when Richmond beat Freo by 77 a couple of years ago - don't know if that is the record.

Fyfe 77 points is the next highest margin for 3 votes after Ablett's two.

I was wondering what's the most amount of games players within a team have played upon their MCG debut.

ie. Crows currently have
Chayce Jones with 29 games Ned McHenry with 20 games upon others without a game at the MCG

But I do wonder if in the early years there's some quite high totals as a player could play every game for 2 years except at Melbourne and play 42 games.
So maybe just for the AFL-era? (Or even 2000-present as it was about then when games stopped playing at suburban grounds)

Is there a way to consolidate the data per team at any one time?

Say there's 10 players in 1 team who have yet to play there
Their totals are combined into 1

So just using your 3rd table
Jones 29
McAdam 25
Himmelberg 22
Scholl 21
Schoenberg 21
McPherson 20
McHenry 20

If the Crows played in the MCG this week the team total would be 118
I wonder what the highest is for a team

Just thinking this could be a shot at being broken in the near future by either North or Adelaide looking at that table.

Adelaide's 203 is the highest tally since 1961. The only higher total prior to 1940 was a solitary game in 1897 (Essendon Round 13).

When Port Adelaide thumped the Gold Coast by 50-points today, it was Port's 12th straight win over the Suns, a sequence dating back over 10 years to 2011. Like today, many of the games have been decided by big margins.

Somewhat ironically, the Gold Coast beat the Power in their first encounter at Football Park in Adelaide a decade ago, this the Suns' first ever win in the AFL.

Are there any other examples of records like this, expansion teams beating an opponent in their first year and then not beating them again for many years after? There's lots of cases where teams have taken a long time to beat a particular opponent, for example the Brisbane Bears were unable to beat fellow 1987 expansion team the West Coast Eagles until 1996, the Bears' 10th (and last) season before the merger with Fitzroy to became the Brisbane Lions in 1997. The Gold Coast were unable to beat Adelaide until 2020. But I can't think of any records like the strange one between the Power and Suns.

North Melbourne beat Geelong by 8 points at Corio Oval in its first ever VFL match in 1925 before losing its next 23 against the Cats. Their next win was in 1939.

Gold Coast/Port Adelaide is a clear second.

Three teams lost their next 8 after winning their first encounter:
Brisbane/Melbourne
St.Kilda/Richmond*
Western Bulldogs/West Coast*

Next best is 4:
Collingwood/Port Adelaide*
Fremantle/Geelong
Gold Coast/Brisbane
GWS/Gold Coast
GWS/Port Adelaide
North Melbourne/Western Bulldogs**

* against expansion clubs
** both new clubs

North Melbourne beat Geelong by 8 points at Corio Oval in its first ever VFL match in 1925 before losing its next 23 against the Cats. Their next win was in 1939.

Gold Coast/Port Adelaide is a clear second.

Three teams lost their next 8 after winning their first encounter:
Brisbane/Melbourne
St.Kilda/Richmond*
Western Bulldogs/West Coast*

Next best is 4:
Collingwood/Port Adelaide*
Fremantle/Geelong
Gold Coast/Brisbane
GWS/Gold Coast
GWS/Port Adelaide
North Melbourne/Western Bulldogs**

* against expansion clubs
** both new clubs

Some interesting statistics from this North vs. Geelong game:

1. North winning their debut game over Geelong is the only time that the Kangaroos have had a positive overall win-loss-draw record in the AFL/VFL.
2. Geelong won the 1925 premiership, North were second last.
3. In the return 1925 match at Arden Street, North's Fred Rutley was suspended for life, but this was later rescinded and he briefly returned in 1930.
4. The Kangaroos never again won at the Corio Bay Oval after this first up win at the venue, but developed a good record over Geelong at their new home ground Kardinia Park, winning there often in the mid 1940s after the Cats struggled upon returning after a World War 2 hiatus in 1942 and 1943. Today, the Kangaroos record against the Cats at Kardinia Park is a respectable 25-39, not bad considering Geelong have always been hard to beat at this ground.
