In 3 or 4 weeks Freo play their 600th AFL game (I think?)

Is there somewhere I can find and compare every teams record after 600 games?

*maybe imclude GC/GWS current record

Through 15 games this year, Collingwood’s biggest winning margin has been 18 points and their biggest losing margin has been 30 points. This mean their +\- results in that stretch have been within a range of 48 points. Have any other sides gone fifteen or more consecutive games with less volatility than that in their results?

In the thread - is Dustin Martin the greatest ever player someone put up/posted Leigh Mathews finals record - and it was super impressive - i dont know if it was every final he played - or just where he kicked big bags of goals etc

Another onballer / small forward of yesteryear - i would be interested to see his stats - re finals /goals kicked - where he performed well ( like how Mathews stats were posted ) would be Des Tuddenham when he was at Collingwood

I think they would read well - but id like to see them

The 1957 VFL season was an unusually even one, and five of the twelve teams spent time on the bottom of the ladder. Geelong spent only one week in last place, but unfortunately for the Cats it was at the completion of Round 18, which gave Geelong the wooden spoon after hitting the bottom of the ladder for the first time in the final round. It was quite a remarkable and fast decline for Geelong which had done so well early in the 1950s, backed up by a second successive last placing in 1958 and second last in 1959. Maybe older Geelong fans were concerned that the Cats were too distracted by that new-fangled rock and roll music to concentrate on football?

Jokes aside, Geelong's 1957 team was a very unusual one in that they finished with the wooden spoon after only landing on the bottom for the first time in the final round. Does anyone know of a team that has done the opposite, being in last place all season but getting off the bottom of the ladder for the first time courtesy of a win in the final round?

Happened to St.Kilda in 1954 after Fitzroy got up to beat Essendon, who were out of the four on percentage.

Also Footscray in 1967 after being two games clear of Fitzroy with three to play. Fitzroy managed to manouevre Hawthorn to the bottom before losing to the Hawks in the final game and condemning the Bulldogs to the spoon after the Dogs fell short of North by two points. Two more goals to Hawthorn would've given the spoon to Fitzroy on percentage.

The Lions had an amazing talent for avoiding wooden spoons in some of their poor seasons. As well as 1954 and 1967 as you mentioned, Fitzroy were the bottom team going into the final round in 1957 but beat Geelong at the Brunswick Street Oval in Round 18 to push the Cats to last.

In 1991 the Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy spent most of the season languishing together at the bottom of the ladder. It took until Round 10 until the Lions won, and the Bears didn't win until Round 11. Fitzroy and Brisbane went into their Round 16 meeting at the GABBA with just 1 win each, the Bears ahead of the Lions on percentage, before Brisbane thrashed Fitzroy by the better part of 12 goals. An upset win over a fast fading Carlton in Round 18 was the Bears' third of the season, and now 2 games clear of the Lions they looked safe and Fitzroy certain to finish last. Unfortunately for the Bears, they didn't win again, while Fitzroy thrashed Richmond in Round 20, outlasted North in a 1-point thriller in Round 22 and when they upset the West Coast Eagles in a top vs. bottom match in Round 24, the Lions consigned the Bears to last spot for the season.

There is also the 1916 season, where in a war-affected season only four teams took part. Fitzroy finished last but won all their finals, and for years were both premiers and wooden spooners for the 1916 season. Then in the late 2000s the AFL corrected the anomaly, taking the 1916 wooden spoon off the Lions and giving it to the Richmond Tigers, which finished third and didn't win a final. I don't know why they bothered; hardly anyone from World War 1 was still alive by then and it was so long ago that I don't think anyone really cared, but regardless Fitzroy 'lost' a wooden spoon some 90 years after they received it.

The biggest win by a wooden spoon team is 76 points by Richmond over St Kilda in 1987, and the biggest loss by a premier is 100 points by Carlton to Essendon in 1945, but does anyone know the lowest score ever kicked by a premiership team and the highest score ever by a team that finished last?

The lowest score by a team that won the premiership I could find was Essendon's 1.8-14 against Melbourne in 1897 (Essendon won this game as Melbourne could manage only 0.8-8). The highest score by a wooden spoon team I know of is 26.14-170 scored by the Brisbane Bears in Round 16 1991, when they thrashed Fitzroy at the GABBA.

Does anyone know of any premier team scores lower than the 1897 Bombers and higher woooden spooner scores than that of the 1991 Bears?

You've got the winner for premiership teams, 14. Premiership teams have kicked every score from 14 to 181 except 20 and 160 (gaps start to appear after 181).

Wooden spoon record is Richmond's 26.15.171 against North Melbourne in R5 1989. Wooden spoon teams have kicked every score from 1 to 145 except 4, 5, 14 and 138.

Thanks Ron the Bear.

The Kangaroos and Tigers played a number of high scoring matches against each other from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. In addition to the 26.15-171 to 20.14-134 Richmond win over North you mentioned, there was a 26.16-172 to 19.14-128 victory by the Kangaroos over the Tigers in 1991. Then in 1993 North kicked 25.9-159 in beating the Tigers 17.20-122, and in one of the last ever 300 point match aggregate matches early in 2000 Richmond kicked 20.14-134 but were no match for the Kangaroos which scored a very accurate 27.8-170.

Can anyone determine an answer to this:

North Melbourne began the season with a loss of 52 points and then lost their next game by 59 points. Their next game resulted in a loss of 128 points, which is greater than the margins of the previous two games combined (111). The question is: have any other teams, in consecutive games, suffered two 50-point losses followed by a 100-point loss which overtakes the combined aggregate of the two 50-point losses? (Sorry that was a long-winded question.)

Yes. May not be the only instance, but Fitzroy did in 1996.

Rnd 19 vs St Kilda 35-88 lost by 53
Rnd 20 vs Brisbane 100-187 lost by 87 = margin of 140 over those two games
Rnd 21 vs Richmond 36-187 lost by 151

Does anyone know how the AFL Player Ratings work? In the North vs Eagles game last week, this happened:

Oscar Allan: 8 disps, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 2 i50s, 3 score invs, 2 goals, 3rd highest ranking
Cam Zurhaar: 16 disps, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 10 score invs, 2 goals, 39th highest ranking

All I can think of is that Zurhaar's six behinds were counted as clangers, or not effective disposals, etc.

Any thoughts?

AFL Ratings penalize you hard with negative pts if you * up straight forward stuff or record clangers, but don't reward you that much if you do something as expected.

A clanger is a free kick against you, a turnover, basically an unforced error. It also includes dropping an uncontested mark. If you take an uncontested mark you get 0.0 pts, as its an expected outcome.

If you kick 6 goals from 15m out on a straight forward angle, just the kicking part, not the marking or getting the ball part, you get 6 x +0.6pts = 3.6pts but if you kick 6 behinds instead all from 15m out, you get 6 x -3.9pts = -23.4pts. An extreme example but gives you an idea of how it works.

Attached is the booklet released in 2013 explaining how it works, and there has probably been some small and subtle changes since then.

When was last time twins played directly on each other?
Surely Ben McKay plays on Harry McKay this weekend.
I trying to recall last time twins played on each other but most twins I can think of like the Febey's played on the same team so never played on each other in league football.

Did it happen at least within games with the Wakelin twins or perhaps Nathan and Mitch Brown.

Surely Adam and Troy Selwood would have gone head to head at some point.
