Stats questions

Did it happen at least within games with the Wakelin twins or perhaps Nathan and Mitch Brown.

Surely Adam and Troy Selwood would have gone head to head at some point.
Did not recall two of the Selwood's could have been twins.
Wakelins tended to only play back so unlikely they played on each. Similarly the two Brown's but Selwood's certainly a chance.
The two Nankervis brothers for Geelong, were they twins?

No! From AFL Season Guide:

Good job.
For some reason I could never tell them apart so thought maybe they were.
Forgot about the Scott twins. They would have been fun to see if they played on each other but doubt it happened.
No, it didn't happen. Chris missed much of 1997 (presumably injured) when Brad had his only season with Hawthorn. Brad played against Brisbane twice, but Chris wasn't playing. After that year they were teammates:

Seeing the Fremantle Dockers wearing the jumper from their first game in 1995 yesterday, it got me thinking about team debuts in the league. There are some interesting stats. Ken Kendall (University), Brendan Krummell (Fremantle), Michael McLean (Brisbane Lions) and Marc Lock (Gold Coast) were all in the debut teams of these clubs, but never played another game for these teams after this. Mark Mickan was a member of the Brisbane Bears debut 1987 team and also the Adelaide Crows debut game against Hawthorn in 1991. Mark Roberts was a member of the Brisbane Bears first ever team against North Melbourne in Round 1 1987 and also played in the Bears last ever game in the 1996 Preliminary Final against North, only this time as a Kangaroo.

Is anyone able to list the last player from each debut game of the 21 clubs to retire, and when they last played? For the Gold Coast and GWS some would still be playing, GWS more than the Gold Coast.

AFL tables site should make that an easy task for you to do.

Can anyone make a graph of inside 50s, marks inside 50, scoring shots, and score averaged per season from 1990 to now? I can't find average season stats for any year, and marks inside 50 weren't recorded until the late 90s.

inside 50 stats and such thing were not around until late 1990's at best.
For example mid 1990's the stats you might get would be kicks, marks, handballs, tackles, shephards, spoils, goals, behinds, rushed behinds and that is about it. You might have some internal club stats called one percenters like at Carlton that Parkin might have his stats guy assemble but never got any more complex than that until Ted Hopkins decided to create his own stats company. I think by about 1998, the newspapers might have things like clearances and hard ball gets but that would be about all you would find.

It is why when you heard Luke Darcy claim some stat to be a world record or all time record often the stats is only being recorded for two decades at best. Many for maybe only 15 years. Even things like Metres Gained we only start to see in last couple of years.

Peter Burgoyne and Brendan Lade both played in Port's 1st AFL game against Collingwood in 1997 and both retired after playing against North Melb Round 22 2009.

And just another bit, Stephen Paxman, playing for Fitzroy, was on the wrong side of Freo's first win in Round 3 1995 and on the right side of Port's first AFL win against Geelong in Round 3 1997

Can anyone determine an answer to this:

North Melbourne began the season with a loss of 52 points and then lost their next game by 59 points. Their next game resulted in a loss of 128 points, which is greater than the margins of the previous two games combined (111). The question is: have any other teams, in consecutive games, suffered two 50-point losses followed by a 100-point loss which overtakes the combined aggregate of the two 50-point losses? (Sorry that was a long-winded question.)

There's a few more from the first round of VFL footy ever, back in Rd 1 1897:

Bill Ahern and George Johnston of Carlton
Dick Poole of Collingwood
Johnnie Graham and Bob McCormick of Essendon
John Lucas and Tom Mullen of Geelong
Alf Bedford of St Kilda

Of Carlton's first eighteen players, alphabetical order makes Bill Ahern their first ever player. St Kilda's #1 cap was a different man named Bill Ahern, though this one had a slightly longer career (12 games, 6 goals)

+ Reg Whitehead at Hawthorn.

when franklin retires in the next year or so , the player with best goals per game average will be under 3 (jeremy cameron approx 2.5).

when is the last time that a leading player in the AFL/VFL averaged under 3 goals per game ?

Using 50 career goals minimum as a qualification, 1914 was the last time there were no h&a rounds where a player's career average was 3.00 or above at the end of the round.

Dick Lee was the first to peek above 3.00, seven times 1908-10, then Jimmy Freake once in 1912.

Freake was above 3.00 in three rounds in 1915-16 and Lee also three rounds in 1916.

1921 - 4 players
1929 - 8
1934 - 10
1958/63/65/76 - 1
1994 - 11
2006-08 - 1
2011-21 - 1

I just saw that on the weekend Adelaide had 4 rookies playing

Is this a record?

ps. I would count players who started the year rookie listed before being promoted to the senior list as rookie listed player for that year.
