It's no doubt a programming issue relating to the bye, yet it's an issue that

a) they should know about
b) they do know about because they have been notified about it more than once
c) they have not rectified after 5 weeks

therefore I'm calling them out.

These are sometimes revised after first being posted, e.g. an extra tackle here or a kick deducted there, which demonstrates attention to detail.

I wonder what the method is here. I used to get the afl.com.au figures on game day, then go through the Herald Sun stats on Monday (both seemingly being official). Any diffs I'd side with the HS, reasoning that there was more time for fine tuning. Can't be bothered any more.

That's my guess - CD marking passages of play in which they might have missed a stat or were unsure of the player involved, and reviewing them after the match.

In case anyone was in doubt, TV announcers are not a good resource for stats.

Dwayne Russell was embarrassing today quoting Essendon stats.

He was wrong when quoting the highest score for Essendon in the 1st qtr or any qtr.

So if you hear someone on TV or radio quote a stat, don't believe them, look it up for yourself.

Email from Final Siren today.

"Should be fixed now, thanks for the message.

Chris"

Yes, I too got an email to confirm that the bye issue on http://finalsiren.com has been fixed.

I was going to delete my earlier posts, but I think I'll let them remain. Chris has self-admittedly been unresponsive about the issue (I first emailed the site on the Saturday of Round 3) and unenthusiastic about the site in general, of late, and that's understandable given how long it's been running and that it's probably a one-man show.

So put http://finalsiren.com back on your Stats Resources list :thumbsu:

He does a great job to post the player stats within minutes of a game's conclusion.

Good thing he got most of it off me to start with :D. But I also feel the pain, I'll think of something, even write it down, but it usually takes a long time to get around to doing something about it.

I was recently wondering what would happen if one of you guys (with a site), say, got abducted by aliens. It's a shame that the AFL site is near the bottom of the list when it comes to looking up AFL stats.

I've given out the whole horse and cart many, many times.. so most of it is out there for somebody to take up the slack should the Alpha Centaurians get a little grabby.

The data on the historical site is a goldmine but it only gets updated once or twice a year. They're capable of far better presentation and accessibility.

Not sure if the footystats guy posts here, but if he does there's an error in your latest Diary entry

ADELAIDE v SYDNEY
the loss extended Sydney's run of outs at Football Park; the last time the Swans beat the Crows in Adelaide was in 2001-R16 ...

The Swans beat Adelaide in Adelaide R2 2010.

One of the only sites you'll need until the AFL unlocks itself from the grasp of Telstra.

When that day comes, fingers crossed they decide to make the definitive sporting website, something akin to cricinfo.com, complete with match reports, stats, highlights (if available) and detailed player biographies going back for all time.

One can hope (and dream) can't they?

fantastic stats site cheers :)

It's rather odd how they've done it, whether it's just happenstance or a deliberate attempt to obfuscate, I know not.

You mean requiring multiple clicks to see all the data for a match? Possibly, although the site as a rule doesn't make very good use of screen real estate. Ideally we'd be able to select the year, club and stat (e.g. kicks) and be able to produce a crosstab of players versus rounds.

Clunkier than necessary, but I'm thankful they've made the data avaialble at all. Perhaps they're attempting to win users back from Pro-Stats with the new stuff (contested marks, one-percenters etc).

What you do think, is it readable? I wasn't quite happy at the contrast of the current player shading, and it's *a lot* easier to mess about with the background than changing the pages. I have no truck this newfangled CSS and I shan't have it.
