Hey just wondering where the best places in Melbourne people have bought a steak? both expensive and value.

Myself living in Geelong atm can say a good value steak can be found at the Bush Inn $12.50 on tuesdays for 300g or 22 bucks other nights for 500g and is pretty great. Otherwise the steakhouse in Ballarat goes pretty well but is on the expensive side 30-40 bucks (i know they can be more).

Have heard the place teh Railway hotel on SEN alot, and Squiresloft? Rockpool? anyone got an idea?

Years ago I went to a place called Vlado's, and it was the best steak i've ever had in my life. It might have been in Richmond, but I don't remember.

There isn't really anywhere special in Geelong. All very average. The Carlton does an alright steak though.

Been there quite a few times, recently went again on Thursday. Worth every cent. Magnificent sausages, the mixed grill is fantastic, and the steak is always cooked to perfection, simply melts in your mouth.

A must for any steak lover.

Place in frAnkston (actually on my way there now) called mambos. Tight ass Tuesday. Awesome 450g rump steak for like 12.50

The Point at Albert Park is possibly the best steak Ive ever eaten. Not the cheapest place, more of a special occasions restaurant but bloody hell are they nice. Service is top notch also.

Agree Igloo but i would suggest you try the Bush Inn, just a pub steak but a great 300g porterhouse for 12.50 on tuesdays and the vege's arnt shite either, the Charles Darling does the same but i dont like the pub as much

Rare Steakhouse in Little Collins Street has fabulous steaks at a reasonable price. I also had dinner tonight at the newly opened Squires Loft Steakhouse in Essendon near the railway station.

I'm very impressed with the steaks at both of these restaurants.

Steer on Chapel St in South Yarra.

Expensive, but incredibly good. They bring out a wooden board of about 20 cuts for you to choose from.

Don't go unless you're absolutely starving.

Edit: Just googled. I am amazed. I've walked through Lt Malop street a million times, lived in Geelong all my life, and I've never realised a steakhouse was down one of the side streets. I've never even heard anyone mention it before.

Steaks have a great price in South africa generally, I havent been to any place there where it was more than 50-60 rand it was excellent always. (equals about 5€ )
In Germany you have to pay about 25 € to get a good steak on the table... at least . and even if you do your steak yourself the filet beef costs 40€ per kg.

Parker's is great. Owned by the same people as Squire's Loft in Melbourne I think.

Meat & Wine Co on Southbank is good, bit expensive though.

Another vote for Squires Loft / Parkers from me. Pork Ribs and fried Onions are also good there.

On a related note - anyone know the best places to buy steak in Melbourne to cook yourself? I'm really starting to perfect the method outlined here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqPCis-6TS8 and am looking to buy a roll of eye fillet or similar at a decent price.

Their is a place in Geelong in a side alley across from the Edge i am pretty sure great Steaks

City Grill room in the city is pretty good aswell

I have just seen the above comments if its called Parker's which i think it is its a ripper place

Vlado's isn't what it used to be. Was great back in the day but has gone downhill the last 5 years.

Rockpool is a solid option in Melbourne but my fave is France Soir in Sth Yarra. Have been there countless times and have never had a bad steak.

Mitre Tavern for value for sure. If you can avoid the ocean of twat suits. Wagu under 60 bananas

Charcoal Grill in Ivanhoe, is amazing value. Set menu kinda of thing. BYO drinks of all sorts. From booze to softies.

Beef & Wine Co on southbank, as mentioned, not cheap, but oh soooo good.

The station hotel in Napier street, Footscray has quality steaks.

It has a Rost Biff on the menu that is quite 'sweet' tasting.
