Not bizarre at all. We have a key fwd at 26yo in the top 10% paid players in the comp who has managed just 140 career goals .

Ben King is only 24 and already up to 190.

His brother Max almost never plays. He's always injured. Also 24yo. 159 goals.

It's time to admit Allen is just not very good and no longer "a young talent".

Oscar will never get close to Jake Stringer career goal tally. Bookmark it.

‘Just not very good’ but has kicked 75 goals in his last 35 games in one of the worst teams in modern footy and kicked multiple goals in three quarters of those games I would suggest means he’s at least decent having come back from an injury that kept him out for an entire season just prior.

Which players are either over rated, over paid, or regularly not putting in the effort in the two hours a week that matter, game day.

I'll start

Ben McKay (is he the most over paid player in AFL/VFL history?)
JUH
Dylan Shiel
Andrew McGrath
Jade Gresham
Lachie Fogarty
Mitch McGovern
Isaac Quaynor
Tom Cole
Oscar Allen
Jayden Hunt
Tom McDonald
Bailey Fritsch
Harrison Petty
Nat Fyfe

Fyfe?

Was the best player in the comp at his peak, but he’s been injury ravaged for years, and rarely has a preseason anymore.

Don’t think anybody still thinks he’s the same player, he’s a veteran who does a lot of bollocking work at stoppages and on field leadership stuff, but he isn’t the high marking contested king he once was. His shoulders are no good and he’s lost his athleticism.

He is beloved by Freo fans and still gets respect from the commentators for the player he was, but nobody, least of all at Freo, thinks he’s the same player.

His salary would be far less now too, he’s not on his big contracts these days.

Strange call. If you put Fyfe, you could add Luke Parker, both in the same career phase.

Exactly.

2 Brownlows - at his peak he was worth every cent.

Then his body started failing - which after a couple seasons of that he took a massive pay cut.

Silly to be on this list. He was worth every penny

It never ceases to amaze how many gws boys were poached on big money and never produced. …. Treloar Steele and Cameron about the only 3 that have earned their dollars (I’ll accept Boyd was probably worth it for his grand final performance

Way more than that - O'Rourke, Plowman, Marchbank, Jaksch, Pickett, Hopper etc

I'll continue your list

Adam Treloar
Tom Liberatore
Jordan Dawson
James Sicily
Zak Butters
Hayden Young
Max Gawn
Andrew Brayshaw
Harris Andrews

Is there another Jordan Dawson in the league which I'm unaware of, because it certainly isn't the Adelaide version.

Agreed. Even if Fyfe goes on for a season or two too long, it's in the "who cares" category owing to just how important he has been to Fremantle over the journey.

None of the players s who went to Carlton in that group got 'big money'.

Marchbank you could say got 'medium sized money' and was a relatively high profile recruit. The others were throw ins to trades and recruited precisely because they were cheap, had a year or two of experience, and had been first round picks (so some latent talent hanging around somewhere).

And Plowman certainly doesn't belong on this list. There might not be anyone in footy who earned their money more than him across the journey. He got all the horrible defensive jobs each week, and his iconic move was 'only defender om screen desperately trying to cover 3 opponents' while they run into an otherwise open goal.

Swap Lachie Fogarty for Zac Williams. Could almost add H. McKay on there alongside his brother but at least he has some sort of value and contribution in the past, whereas Ben... Occasionally looks good taking an intercept mark?

Not sure why Ben Mckay is on there. He was average at North Melbourne and nothing has really changed. Essendon were desperate and had cap space knowing North also had cap space so paid massive overs for him. If they actually thought they were getting something else it probably explains why they have been in the shit for years.

Thanks for making my point for me.

Luke Parker actually trains and plays.

Arent we paying players to play?
Maybe being in Sydney you're just unaware of what happens in the west, but Fyfe has been on a small wage for years now. he's still worth every cent of his small wage, even if he's not playing as much as we'd like - but remember he played 22 games last year. i would think we'll see him in the seniors pretty soon, but even if we dont, his leadership and application at training is still worth the small wage alone.

also, your point about Luke Parker, there was a fair chunk of last season he didnt play (only played 10 games last year).

over the last 12 months, Fyfe has played a lot more than Parker
