They've reported on the news that one of those killed in the bombing in Bali was Jacob Young. Center for Nebraska in the late 80's.

Apparently he was over there playing Rugby and was scheduled to return to the States (his home was in KC) that next day.

For the record, I hold all the loss of life and injury in that attack as being equally tragic. I'm only singling out Young because I thought it would be a point of interest to Stealth. Peace,

Yes, I saw that. I couldn't believe it.

There have been so many young Australian athletes cut down in their prime, that so many Australians idolize and look up to. I immediately thought of what would happened if this had happened in American again and some athletes I looked up to were involved.

I can only then describe myself as completely stunned when I felt to learn that an athlete *I* grew up idolizing and looking up to is, in fact, a casualty of this.

Jake Young was a standout offensive lineman for the Huskers; he was twice named as an All-American (1988-89) and may have even been an Outland finalist as a senior. The 1988 Husker squad was one of my favorites; they went 11-2, snapped a four-game losing streak to Oklahoma, and Osborne got the last laugh on Switzer, winning our first outright Big 8 title in five years.

2002 has already been a tough year for me as I am a proud St. Louis Cardinals fan, and I have been through losing Darryl Kile and Jack Buck. I am of course reminded of this moreso today after they went down in the NLCS for the 4th time in 7 years.

Of course, it must be reminded again that all lives lost should be mourned equally, not just those with varying degrees of celebrity. Every victim of this cowardly act had their own circle of close friends and relatives who idolized them and looked up to them for their own achievements, in sport or otherwise.
