Very harsh frees I felt. Can use body, Simple Jack flopped

Thought the last one was super-harsh. Looked like he simply won the test of strength and would have marked it himself, but his teammate pinched the mark and consequently Hammer got pinged.

One thing I’m loving from him is just how high he can get when he comes from behind for the spoils.

We were sitting on level 1 last week and it was really impressive and noticeable how high he was getting up for spoils.

The real problem with this side at the moment is just lack of height.

Caminiti 196cm (decent defensive game again)
Sharman 194cm (tough day for a 2nd/3rd tall forward asked to play on his own down there)
Tauru 193cm (solid 8th game, continues to show great signs)
Wood 192cm (never quite plays his height but would have been a matchwinner if he'd just kicked a couple of his shots)
Wilkie 191cm (champion)
Phillipou 190cm (playing in the wrong role and underdone)

So we went -4 on contested marks, which is very close to our average for the year of -3.7 contested marks per game (ranked dead last in the comp).

Ex - bloody - cruciating

Was a horrid watch, but I’m not sure what anyone was expecting, given it’s a dead-rubber, near the end of a long year, and we’ve had a couple of consecutive wins- to scratch that itch- and were coming up against a team who haven’t won for a month, were playing at home, and were going to be really hungry for a win for themselves.

If we’d nailed more of our opportunities early we might have broken their spirit and had a big, easy win, but once we butchered so many, and they got a couple, and felt like they were really in the game, it was always likely to be a grind from there.

Especially with them flooding the contest and then flooding their defence.

Super-important that we keep getting over the line though, as once you get out of the habit of winning (when you’ve got the chance) it’s extremely hard to get that back. And the kids learn how to win.

You are 100% correct.
This entire season we’ve been too short in the F50, and it kills us.
And yes, their flooding was insane.

Take the small wins I guess - Boxshall, Hall and Tauru. Garcia did some good things.

A win is a win. A game we might have lost over the last few years. Pretty unconvincing, but they stuck at it. Richmond made it hard blocking up space. And we certainly didn’t help ourselves at times. Wood kicking those two might have blown the game open.

It was so obvious that not having a couple of forward tall targets just to compete hurt us. Owens missed not necessarily for his output, but just being a strong body and getting the ball on the deck. And of course King, but he hasn’t really played for 2 years.

More games into kids. Some promising signs from Garcia, Windy, Boxshall, Tauru and Hall. Getting some experience at the G not a bad thing.

Sinclair, Marshall and of course Wilkie kept us going. 81 tackles to 41 our way was impressive. Anyway, not going to be depressed. Not thrilled either, but we won.

Tauru is starting to give off real Tom Barass vibes. Already a handful, once his body fills in, he is going to be unplayable. If we can pair him with another intercept defender (Aleer, Caminiti?) get Howard back or ideally a replacement to go with the gorillas we could be looking real good down there.
