Interesting topic, at least for pies supporters. I think Beams could be a superstar, Sidebottom will be solid best 18 player but never reach the same heights as Beams.

I agree, something about Beams tells me he is going to be an elite player, he already has the body, which will just get more battle hardened, he is good under pressure, has good skills and he's only 20. Sidebottom won't be a slouch either. Good times ahead for Collingwood supporters.

Beams without question. Don't see anything that Sidebottom does better. Decisions under pressure perhaps, but not much else. Sidebottom should be a very good player though.

I reckon Sidebottom has better footskills. Beams is a longer more penetrating kick, but tends to kick a bit too high when looking shorter. Sidey's short passing is bloody sublime. He likes to do the weighted pass and does it so beautifully, I think he's a tad smarter in that aspect. I'd say he tends to read the play a little better as well, really seems to be in the right place at the right time quite often.. Love em' both though.

I think steele will be the better player eventually, will take him a few years but I can see him being one of the top few from that draft. Keeps his feet well, does well in one on ones, good skills and seems like a smart footballer, Steele will be a gun.

See everyone seems to rate players with a penchant for those shorter kicks that are fairly accurate. Mainly because today's game has a lot of chip passing around the place. But I will always rate an accurate flat kick that can travel a long distance, over someone whom is a bit more accurate but can't get the same distance. I take the former every day of the week. Those short link passes are nice, but they simply don't do enough damage. Which is why I don't rate Pendlebury an elite kick, but just a level below in very good territory.

You're description sounds like a solid player, not a star. Which is how I see him.

Beams is better right not but Sidebottom will be better for mine, he has more tricks up his sleeve and as robertg22 said he has more x-factor, I think he has a lot more upside than Beams

Agree that Beams is better right now, but still think that Sidey will be the better player in 5 years time.

Couldn't be happier to have them both. :thumbsu:

i think sidebottom will be a star of the competition in a few years time.

his ability to read the play, his composure, and his fitness level are already at an extremely high level.

beams on the other hand is going to be that pacy inside midfielder who throws himself at the ball with complete disregard to his own safety. also uses the ball well, and can be damaging around goals.

both will complement each other perfectly. i cannot vote in this poll. couldnt be happier with these 2.

Bump

I mean Sidey will be a better player in 8 weeks!

This kid is a gun!!
Beams had a disappointing finals series, but he was fantastic earlier in the season when the team wasn't travelling so well (first game against the cats for example).

But i think Steele will be the better player.......just. Looks to be one of those rare players that are september specialists.

I've said from the start that Sidebottom will be something special.
How many 19 year olds play 2 Grand Finals in a row like Sidebottom did?
Just the way he moves through traffic with ease and the poise is well beyond his years. The kid has it all. Superstar potential.
Beams is good, but they are different style of player.

same as buckley and burns one all skill one all balls.
same situation here. Barring any legal problems that might be hanging over beams neck, both of these guys will end up being club greats for the pies.
