Fair call for Sidey to stay in Melbourne. To many hoops to jump through with quarantine, plus his little girl is only a week old. Stay home Sidey!!

I think a lot of people would have far more readily accepted his decision not to play finals if not for his incredibly damning misdemeanor earlier this year. I have lost a lot of respect for Sidebottom. He used to be one of my favourite players.

I wonder if the whole announcement and subsequent reversal was just a way to make it appear publically like Sidey and co we’re keen to come, but the restrictions just made it too difficult. A public relations move on behalf of our Vice Captain who in reality wasn’t interested.

I kinda buy the public line it because we do incompetent things from time to time. But come on, they’ve known about this for months, and known the quarantining regulations for a long time too.

To announce he’s coming then do a 180 on it when nothing about the situation has changed in between, as if they hadn’t even bothered to look into it prior, is either incompetent almost beyond belief, or it’s a disingenuous PR move.

Not sure I buy it TBH.

For those who have kids - have you forgotten what the first few weeks are like with your first baby? Emotional, elated, exhausted. His partner’s post-partum hormones would be going crazy, like a roller coaster. And in lockdown Melbourne the grandparents probably can’t assist either.

Some sympathy for his position wouldn’t go astray. Not exactly an optimum time for making decisions about travel, quarantine and hubs.

It was always going to be problematic for him to get back.

Its a shame for us, and the team, that it has worked out that way, but he has put his family first, you cant blame or criticise him for that. People need to get over themselves.

It was a forgettable incident, but previous to that he was the consummate professional. I wasn't happy with what he did, but when you factor in the guy has busted his a$$ for this footy club and been very durable throughout his career, l think we as members and supporters can forgive one indiscretion...
