Collingwood equals laughing stock of competition.
We don't even know where we are playing yet. Where do you propose we send him? It won't be confirmed until tomorrow and its probably just too late

I’m surprised at the criticism of Sidey for not making a decision soon enough, or for wavering. He seems to have been torn about this.

For those who have kids - have you forgotten what the first few weeks are like with your first baby? Emotional, elated, exhausted. His partner’s post-partum hormones would be going crazy, like a roller coaster. And in lockdown Melbourne the grandparents probably can’t assist either.

Some sympathy for his position wouldn’t go astray. Not exactly an optimum time for making decisions about travel, quarantine and hubs.

I would hope nobody is blaming Sidey and letting the club off scot free. They should have done the groundwork and told him when a decision would be needed rather.

Strangest part to me was why a) she didn't just come up to the hub like other pregnant partners have and then b) how early he went home in comparison to the due date. We could've beaten Brisbane with Steele.

End of the day he was probably trying to get back when she finished working, so that she wasn't stuck in isolation by herself.

Why does this type of crap always seem to happen to players at the Pies. What a shit year?
Off field distractions are ‘normal’ at Collingwood, but this year is a joke. In a year that had a lot of potential, we always struggled to keep our best players on the park. Can’t really prevent injuries, but Sideys earlier suspension was totally preventable and downright piss poor from him, and this current situation could have been handled better by him and the club so that he would be available for finals.

We're lucky that he's even considered it - anyone who has had children would know how challenging and amazing the first few weeks are after your first born comes home and how important it is to have a settled environment for the baby. Personally it's not something I'd be doing if I were him.

This particular set of circumstances has absolutely nothing to do with the club's management of the situation.

I've moved some of political posts to the covid thread, take it there:

Her statement that footballers and celebrities are welcome because they bring in money while defending not allowing 2 people to attend funerals of their parent and child was about as outrageous a comment as I have ever heard from a government spokesmen. She certainly is no star media performer. We have too many 'health advisers' in this country, and I am sure most of them just echo government policy.

Anyone can enter QLD if they quarantine. The footballers and celebrities are not treated differently except they have picked and stayed at hotels of their choosing at their expense for their 2 weeks of quarantine (the hub). That means its not a financial burden on the state, but the same safe guards are achieved. It's a very consistent message.

This whole thing has occurred be cause Sidey and his Mrs can’t count to nine.
Who schedules a birth in September? This is 2020 ffs....
Can't blame him when the club themselves isn't able to count.

Don't blame Sidey, if he wants to stay home, so be it.

But the club, leaving it past the last minute to make the call one way or the other, just another example of the incompetence that is the hierarchy of Collingwood Football Club. This could have been solved earlier in the week.

I agree, it wouldn’t be an ideal environment to be in with a newborn.

However I’ll ponder a few questions...

Could players actively use contraceptives in Jan/Feb?
Is it immoral for the club to request this of the players?
Should the club have assisted Steele and his partner in exploring options to give birth in Queensland? Knowing full well the expected birth date, location of hub, and duration of season.
Is it immoral of the club to suggest this?

The overall question I have is... Could the club have done anything else at all to help prevent this particular set of circumstances?

I'll just assume that you're asking all of those questions in jest.

Nothing like getting arrested half naked wondering the streets at 7am after an all night bender... the good old days

He's just had his first child come into the world - anything else is trivial, especially a point some random tries to score on a forum he'll never even see.

We officially won't have had Adams, Pendlebury, DeGoey, Treloar and Sidebottom all in the same side this season 😕

Ironically and fortunately none of them are currently injured!

Jordy is clearly the most important of them. Arguably Sidebottom is the one we can replace the easiest, although we also just lost Phillips who like Sidebottom is a running machine

Agree, I do not think we can win it without him unfortunately and I was of the belief we still could if we could get him back in.

We could implant some form of device into the players’ testicles and have a kind of remote switch in the critical summer months. It could be operational in late July as well to ensure no distractions for Anzac Day.

That’s not what I said. And I disagree. We can achieve anything with Jordy back in the side. Treloar too.

Never say never.

Sidebottom, off all our marquis players, is the one we can most afford to lose.
