Big fan of Steele although he can look a bit lackadaisical at times.
He's a great runner, clever and skilful.
Which makes his skill errors or being easily baulked by a rookie, (Parfitt) all the more frustrating.
Agree Bombers would love to have him.

My son loves him, but he does those little things that get on my ****.

No doubt a proper Collingwood man and a seemingly a guy that keeps it simple (I notice he refuses the shave the legs like some others do). I like the way he goes about it and glad he is with us. I hope he can reduce if not eliminate those fancy sideways chips.

I am a fan of Steele. He reminds me of Mark Waugh in his approach..laconic/ laid back and at times can and does make it look easy...but when it doesn't come off can frustrate because he looks as if he doesn't care.

We haven't seen the best of him and I am unsure as to his best position. He has good career stats for somebody who continually plays a bits role from FP; HFF; Wing; Centre; HBF and everywhere else in between.

Kicks: 13.5; HB: 9.8; 75% disposal efficiency; Goals: 0.8; BH: 0.5; RB50; 1.7; I50: 3.0;Clearances 2.3;

Most frustrating player on our list imo. Beautiful player to watch when he's really on but he always leaves me feeling a little disappointed. Should be in our top 3 players but just seems like he will never get there :(

+1 for playing him as a forward. Could kick 30+ goals if he played a majority of the a year there.

Dunno if I'd play him up forward.. a lot of his goals over the years have been from reading the game and shooting forward with no one in kooi of him then snagging the big one.

We need his gut running all over the park.

I like him.. never a bad word against him.. just wish he would launch his foot into the ball at times.. not always pinpoint the pill. He can launch it.. have seen him do it.. but seems to keep it tucked away a fair bit.

Hatred in the gameday thread? I must admit when in attendance I rarely post in them so I completely missed that and my first reaction would be that those comments say more about the poster than Steele. He wasn't one of our best on Sunday, but nor was he worthy of criticism, IMO.

Overall he's a good footballer with the potential to be great and I'm keen to see how he goes once Oxley is punted.

Am a supporter of Steeles. Really lie what he brings to the club. No trouble, good leader and big match performer. Must say he won me especially with his final against Adelaide in his 1st season.

How's Oxley affecting him?

I got howled down for giving him 4 votes in the didaka, so cheers for the background of the criticism. Unfortunately with Blair and Mayne out of the side and Greenwood fixing up Selwood, Sidebottom seemingly became the next in the gun. I also copped heat for using the term haters recently, so it will be interesting to see the reaction to your description.

I also wonder how the below will be taken when the new book Champions of Collingwood listing our best 125 players is released this week. Of the current players referenced Pendlebury is a certainty and Sidebottom would have to be favourite for the second with Reid the only other chance.

Interesting call. Clearly Pendles in and could only be Reid or Sidey. Reid's career highs have been higher than Sidey's but Sidey has longevity of performance. Still going on who is the better player I would rank Reid as that man so probably choose him. Both would seem to be close to being chosen.

With his presence off field. Remember that tweet he posted belittling a woman shortly after he was drafted that was a tiny snapshot into the quality of person he is.
He and Sidey are close? Steele seems a pretty hard worker what does Oxley do to affect Steeles performance?

Thick as thieves. Whatever you're fishing for here you aren't going to get. I'll just leave it at Oxley won't be missed by the collective group once he's gone.

Not fishing for anything. You put up the Oxley info, I knew nothing about Steele and Oxley being mates so just asked about it.

I've watched him closely over the years and he seems to go through stages when his footskills let him down, these stages tend to last for weeks, IMO he's stagnated as a footballer, he's no better now than he was 7years ago, still a very good player but I feel he gets overrated a bit.

I'm with him on this - I think everyone but you is completely in the dark on this one!

And your point is? I have no interest in enlightening the masses and after my almost decade posting here I reckon I've built enough cred for people to accept it if they choose. As far as I'm concerned Oxley leaving will benefit Steele. End of story.

You certainly have, but it's human nature to want to know more than the tiniest morsel of info that doesn't actually explain anything unless added to. It's why clickbait exists!

Is he going to leave Melbourne though once he's delisted? Hopefully someone in the NEAFL offers him a bit of cash up north.

Yes. The druggies.

Sideass is very close to elite most weeks and elite when on.

Great player and someone I hope stays a 1 club player will retire a pie champion like Burnsy. Love to hear players showing a bit of loyalty and love for the club rather then being just a job/pay cheque.

Imo he adds character to the team and club and you need these types around to keep the place "up". We lost a few larrikans in Swan, Daisy and Heater etc.

The reason you see his name up for "hypothetical" trade discussions is because he is about the only player who holds value and in a position we bat deep....the midfield. Personally I wouldn't trade him we need to start to consolidate our list going forward bring in RFA and hit the draft with our picks.
