Strong rumour in yesterday's Herald Sun that J.Leppitch may become a senior assistant next year at the Pies.
What was not clear is does Buckley get an extension ? if we keep losing games i doubt it.
So then, could maybe some one like Clarkson leave the Hawks to be senior coach at the Pies with Leppitch as his senior assistant ?

Changes seem imminent folks.

^ Big news if true.

I worry about how bad our forward entries would be next year under Buckley even with Nicky D in the lineup and Adams back.

We’re going to have potentially McMahon and Henry up there against five opponents because of how slowly we move the ball.

Getting back to Sidebum - you know him ehh - the object of the OP??

Despite the great press he was only ever a link player because there were others in front of him.

Now that Penders is no longer at the peak he has maintained and others such as Trealor are gone, he gets far more attention paid to him than he used to.

Combined with a slowing that age brings us all it has exposed him.

Sidebottom has no trade value, other than in the form of saved salary. He’d go for a pick in the 80’s or 90’s, much like Hawks heroes Hodge Mitchell and Lewis all did at tail ends of their playing careers. But the salary savings alone might still make a trade worthwhile for the Club.

He and Pendles fed off each other and grew their reputations because of each other.
They continue to look for each other when they have the ball.
Now both are on the downward spiral from where there is no turning back. There will still be games where they excel, but they will be the exemption.

It'd be a similar trade to what Hawthorn did with Lewis/Mitchell/Birchall/Hodge.

Throwaway pick.

Best news I have heard all year! Leppa knows his stuff and anyone that listens to him speak about footy on SEN can tell the guy is a very good reader of the game and nearly everything he says is bang on especially when he gets technical.
The stink of mediocrity that has engulfed the club is disgusting.
Buckley, Harvey and especially a hack like Sanderson have no idea and are clearly the worst coaching panel going around.

I really think we should have traded him(Sidebottom) instead of Treloar last year. There were stories in the media last year(obviously leaked by the club) about how Sidebottom could fill Treloar’s role as a centre square midfielder.Well,it’s pretty obvious, from what we’ve seen, that he can’t do that at all. He’s just too slow to play there and he applies no midfield pressure at all.Oppostion midfielders just waltz around him with ridiculous ease because of his lack of pace.

Always loved Sidey, but I think he's checked out. Or his body's checked out for him.

Maybe the best outcome for all would be for him to retire at season's end. His salary would come in handy if (when) we go FA hunting.

The best is behind him but I think the role he’s playing is making him look even worse. Shouldn’t be an inside mid.

Spot on mike, if we are to utilise Sidey, put him in the forward pocket/flank, currently our best front and centre at the drop of the ball at marking contest whilst still on his bike, has always had this trait in his game, kicks you 2 goals a game, sets up another , he has more than played his part. not a mid anymore, father time caught up with him last year , no pun intended. :rolleyesv1:

A 30yo who just got 25 touches in a poor team performance still has plenty to offer.

Surely Sidebottom in his twilight years could still be of value as a creative small forward such is his talents.

To me it's the obvious move Buckley needs to make sooner rather than later and we start rotating the likes of Macrae, Bianco and Rantall through the 22 and Sidebottom's midfield role.

Gee he used to he a star...never forget that.

Age and a crappy team doesn't help..

1 ladt season next year ...forward pocket...and not guaranteed senior footy

Value, yes. Meaningful trade value, no.

Truth be told Sidey isn't starring and his possessions rarely hurt the opposition. He is clearly at the sunset phase of his career.

I give him the benefit of the doubt because the club is doing nothing to get the most out of him and its not like the rest of our players are looking sharp.

When does his retirement party start
Show some respect please. A premiership player, and one of only a dozen or so to play 250 games for Collingwood. He will probably end up being in the first half dozen barring injury, even if this is his last season.

25 cheap disposals with zero impact, do tell me what his disposal efficiency was, no need, I have a rough idea

Still waiting on you to expand on your ammo career that came with a 50m kick?

If he offers nothing for trade I wouldn’t be kicking Sidey out.

All this talk of needing his 'leadership': he has shown none of that on or off the field in the last two seasons. He has been sh*thouse in both ways.

The 'James McDonald model' - that you don't sack all of your old leaders in a rebuild - is correct but only IF that player is still displaying leadership qualities and isn't a liability on the field.

Sidey is cooked. You don't have to get any trade value out of him, you just get rid of him.

Big Elephant in the room for the new coach is what do we do with Sidebottom.

He was utterly shocking today might aswell have had a melbourne jumper on apart from that junk time goal he was more detrimental to the team than helpful.

Hope he retires at the end of the season, would hate to see him playing seconds at another club.
