My memory is hazy, but we haven’t used him in the middle this much before have we?

He’s absolutely on fire as a proper on baller
in 2018 he had a split role of wing/inside mid and starred 2021 we used him as a inside mid and he looked cooked i think it was because as he was a couple years younger he was better suited to patrolling the wing at the time and Bucks didn't think of this

He is slipping under the guard of opposition expectations I think, that and a new reborn attitude. Other teams just expect an old man to do old man things, not dominate the game. You can't tag Naicos, Jordy, Pendles & Sidey, something has to give and it's Sidey right now. Compare his first 7 games this year to last year, chalk and cheese.
he had one of his worst ever games on Anzac Day last year

In some ways Steele has been overshadowed by having better/flashier/more celebrated players at the club during his time: Swan, Pendles, Daisy, JDG and now Naicos.

Be he has been an exceptional player for us. Will go down in history as one of our best.

Drawn level with Andrew McLeod (340) for VFL/AFL games played.

Chris Grant (341) is his next target.

Was interesting that he was moved back to the wing.

I wonder if this was a temporary move or a look to the long term.

And if Sidebottom moves back out to the wing is he making way for Perryman to move back to the middle or Tom Mitchell to return.

It was interesting seeing him take Lipinski’s role. If nothing else, gives our midfield another wrinkle of unpredictability

I wonder if they intend to sub him off for Lipinski but Cox ended up being so bad that they had to.

whatever was wrong with him last year clearly gone now i suspect he might have had a minor operation on his knee at the end of 2023 and we were never told about it hence his poor form in 2024 though it might be fair to suggest he got a bit too old for the wing

adding to this i saw the replay of the geelong game last year and Steele has his lower leg strapped

Game 341 in the bag and 1 game clear of Andrew McLeod now.

Reaches No. 30 (of 13,200+ VFL/AFL players.)

Can leapfrog Chris Grant and Kade Simpson into 28th spot with game No. 342 then, whenever he hits 343, he'll have to wait another 3 games before drawing level with Luke Hodge.

Yeah I wasn’t sure what that was about myself but I like centre bounce Steele over wingman Steele.

Might have just been about Crisp staying in the midfield as he was BOG the week before.

It was interesting. I think Sidey attended one centre bounce (as did Elliott!). McCreery & Sullivan pinch-hit, but Daicos, Long, Pendles & Crisp were the core 4. I wonder how much was driven by Lipinski as sub too.

Was Allan on the other wing?

I suspect that it's a combination of a midfield squeeze and adding depth and maintaining versatility in the squad.

Crisp was bog in the midfield against Freo, so keeping him there rather than him going back to wing. Long and Pendles are less suited to wing than Sidey. Good to have Sidey and Allan have a game on the wing to be more ready to go in those roles if needed there. And same with Crisp in the midfield.

God knows how it all plays out in the end.

Yes, Allan was on the other wing. Sidey was the extra mid and Allan was holding shape and playing outside.

Rotating which guys play inside the contest vs on the wing or HB might also be a clever way of managing loads or sidestepping minor injuries.

Yes, would love to see Sidebottom get to 400, has been 'enormous' for CFC this year....if he plays all year 355-360, still one and a half seasons from reaching 400. 64% career kicking efficiency, Fantastic!

finally reaches 200 goals after 17 years
almost certain to stick around for 2026 on this form and i wouldn't be surprised if contracts for him and Jamie were being drawn up soon
(Pendles and Howe wait and see as they are older)

Did anyone get Lewis Jetta burning off Cyril Rioli in the 2012 GF vibes as Sidebottom sprinted down the wing at glacial speed and Ginnivan couldnt make up any ground on him?
I was thinking Hooker on Franklin, but not far off

Drew level with Kade Simpson which is appropriate given their likeness.
