Steele Sidebottom

I've got a feeling that Jarrad Blight will be a bolter. Has been a big improver this season and possesses a lot of excellent qualities (tall, versatile, quick, big engine, clean hands, thumping kick, and bottom-aged), but hard to gauge where he's rated given he didn't play in the U18 Championships or WAFL.

Very hard to guage. If he had played TAC rather than WAFL I'd suggest a candidate for top 20. It's a lot harder to do that from the WAFL when you miss the championships.

I'd be happy using 20 on him.

Here you have it, straight from the North recruiting manager himself :D

I don't think he'll last to Norths pick.

Plenty of quality in the top 10 so it shouild be interesting to see in anyone takes a bolter that will throw a spanner in the works.......e.g Yarran in the top 8

or top 3...bookmark it

Yarran or Sidebottom? If it's Yarran you're talking about I think you could be on to something. If WC take Naitanui, which is quite likely, I would not be at all surprised if we overlook Rich for Yarran

Sidebottom's stocks rise for AFL draft
http://news.realfooty.com.au/sport/sidebottoms-stocks-rise-for-afl-draft-20081001-4rrs.html

Despite kicking 10 goals in the AFL's best shop window, Steele Sidebottom has arrived at the draft camp still unsure of his best position.
Sidebottom began the 2008 TAC Under-18 season playing as a defender for the Murray Bushrangers and is listed as a backman for the annual three-day draft camp which has begun at the Australian Institute of Sport.
But he is certain to have shot up the provisional draft order on the basis of his match-winning 10-goal haul in Friday night's thumping 81-point TAC Cup grand final victory over Dandenong.
Spending time in the midfield and up forward, the 182cm player also picked up 32 touches and pulled down 14 marks in the best performance of his junior career.
"I don't know where it came from but I wouldn't mind it every week, it was good," said Sidebottom, who now shapes as a likely top-10 pick in next month's national draft.
"Everyone is here trying to do the same thing and get the same result.
"It has been a dream to get here."
The performance was similar to Amon Buchanan's 10-goal outing for the Geelong Falcons in the corresponding match eight years ago which attracted the attention of Sydney.
Dale Thomas was best on ground in the Under-18 grand final three years ago for Gippsland Power, leading Collingwood to draft him at No.2.
Even before his grand final performance, Sidebottom had attracted some attention from AFL recruiters, with St Kilda, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Port Adelaide all talking to him.
While Sidebottom shapes as one of the draft bolters, high-leaping West Australian ruckman Nick Naitanui and Victorian key forward Jack Watts have both been touted as No.1 prospects.
Having opted for Australian Rules over basketball, the 17-year-old Watts intends to complete his Year 12 studies next year at Brighton Grammar.
He has firmed as the favourite to go at No.1, with Melbourne having the first pick and badly needing a dominant key forward.
For the Fijian-born Naitanui, the draft camp is a sign the heat of almost two years in the media glare is almost over.
If the Demons opt for Watts, Naitanui is sure to attract the attention of WA clubs West Coast and Fremantle, who have picks two and three in the national draft.
"The media created the hype, I really just do my best at the club and try to carry on the way I have been," he said.
"(I just want a club) who can help me with my ruck work and other parts of my game as well, skills and the physical side as well.
"I'm not really expecting to play a game or anything. I think playing a game in your first season is a bonus."

Dont think any of those teams highlighted except Port have a chance at gettin him now......

Before the TAC GF I would have had him at pick 6-10.. But can definately see port taking him with pick 4 now..

Will not get past the roos at pick 9.. Would love to see him there

Will Steele last till Lions?

Hey all, long time lurker on here, love the info and insight. After having spent the last three years desperate for the Lions to draft a midfielder I may finally get my wish this year. (Lions board regulars will attest to my obsession about this, to the point where last year I couldn't post for a week after draft day).

Obviously after the 10 goal effort of Steele Sidebottom I'm now very concerned he won't last, what are the experts (ok you guys) opinions of whether he will fall that far?

Re: Will Steele last till Lions?

im not an expert but simple maths says yes. theres rich, ziebell and hartlett.
only worst case scenario could be if melb, freo, port, ess all take mids. i think briz will take hartlett, sidebottom, blease or yarran.

Re: Will Steele last till Lions?

I wouldn't be surprised if Essendon pick Steele, especially if Port pick Hartlett.

I'm in the same boat Vid, desperately want us to take a "premium midfielder".....and yep, think Sidebottom will be there.

If he's not, then this may be a blessing in disguise ......him kicking 10 goals in a match will never happen again. What was more impressive was the 32 possessions he had in the same game and 7 inside 50's

With Rich, Nat, Watts, Hurley, Hartlett and Vickery likely to be taken prior to 7, it leaves the Lions with a nice dilemma or choosing either Ziebell or Sidebottom or another player with #7 :D

Sidebottom is the "IT" player at the moment, but others had been touted as better up until his Perfect 10 performance.

Hmmmmmmm

Re: Will Steele last till Lions?

Essendon are taking Yarran....

We better ****ing not. Why waste a pick in the top 5 on a small crumbing forward that goes MIA in and out of games. This has Sampi written all over it!

Ive talked to Ratten n Sticks and Sidebottom is a sure thing at carlton with pick 6 if we dont use the pick in the trade week.:thumbsu:

Was on SEN the other day some official from Essendon was saying that they would take Yarran with pick 5. Only caught the last of it. Saying he is a very exciting prospect. Time will tell I guess.

No thanks and I doubt it. Hearing it was on SEN makes me even happier as NONE of their rubbish is right! I would say Hurley is still the frontrunner for pick 5, a outside chance of Ziebell/Hartlett or Tengrove (who we are very keen on)

Great, happy for you guys to get him as long as Essendon don't get Yarran. I HATE players that do not work 100% all the time!:thumbsd:

Ashley Prescott has said that coached him at the Clontarf academy and loves his game but other than that I haven't heard anything about us taking him.

Good points, it all just seemed too perfect really. Knowing us he'll still be available and we'll pick the best available ruckman who has only slipped because he's injury prone and then watch him not play for three years because he's injured. Just seemed perfect fit before his perfomance anyway, and having a cool name can't hurt.

I almost hope we take Shaun McKernan, just to see your reaction Vidman. :D
