I wouldn't get too excited, Amon Buchanan played in a TAC Cup grand final for the Geelong Falcons and kicked 10 goals

Very happy to have pick 7.

Would be a tad shitted off if I was Adelaide & Collingwood.

They'll still get some quality, but there would appear to be a visible dropoff after pick 8.
What are the odds every team has the same Top 8?

I'm going to go with 0%.

Every team, every year comes up with a number that there is a good "Top (insert number of that team's pick here)". If teams have traded their first round selection, they'll say that there's a good Top 30.

In 2005 there was meant to be a strong Top 7 (Murphy, Ellis, Kennedy, Ryder, Dowler, Hurn, Clarke), and it was a rare mock draft on here that didn't see all of those players drafted by pick #8 at the latest. But then Collingwood drafted Dale Thomas at #2 and Scott Pendlebury at #5, and you'd be hard-pressed to suggest that they were wrong in doing so. Meanwhile, Greg Miller thought Collingwood's efforts in doing so were laughably poor, while a number of other clubs didn't have quite the case of foot-in-mouth disease, they certainly didn't see the draft the same way.

2006 saw a similar situation, and then Boak went at #5 and threw the whole thing into a tailspin, but despite that, he's turned out to be well worth his draft position.

My point being - No matter how strong the divide might seem to be, there is ALWAYS a relatively vast difference in opinion amongst recruiters, so the idea of being "shitted off" if you're picking outside that perceived Top 8 is a bit off the mark. That Top 8 you were commenting on is certainly not the same group of players that I'd have in my Top 8.

Yes General I know what you are saying there are some that will go overboard but it has to push him up a little.

And if were judging on what we have read General I would be happy to join any sort of cult were steele was worshipped not just get him in the draft.

PM Vic Crow, he's the cult leader ;):p

I guess these footy fans aren't qualified to talk about Sidebottom's game because they're not working themselves up into a lather over his game. ;)

Was funny watching VicCrow squirm in his seat....the poor lad was so conflicted......ooh my boy kicked a goal, damn, he's not getting to the crows :P
It was bittersweet.

:(

He was too good.

Ant can you tell me what his averages were for the whole series/year? I am keen to compare to his GF performance.

round 4-24 pos, 6 marks, 3 tackles
round 8-17 pos, 3marks, 1 tackle, 2 goals.

^^^ see, it's not one game people. If you have seen a few of those game, especially his final series you'd realise why many people, including myself had him top 10 even before yesterdays game. No more of this 'it's only one game crap'.

Just read this on the AFL website. I too am calling for Youtube videos of his performance. 10G 32P is amazing work. Easily Top10 with that performance I reckon.

His stats are very solid but solid is not top 5.

I still think if he is available at #9 we will take him. I wouldn't be feeling too bad either if someone else in the 5-8 region is pushed down to 9 because of Sidebottoms performance in the final.

All to their own i guess but to me he certainly has a shot for a top 5 position in the draft and that is not a decision i've made from just one game like most people on here, he is a talent make no mistake about that.

I had him going at 6/7 before yesterdays game, right now i still think he sits around that mark but i wouldn't be shocked if he went up or down a few spots.

Top 10 for mine, can't see him dropping past the Roos pick TBH.

All of you Adelaide and Collingwood fans who think they are going to get Steele Sidebottom you will not because the Roos will not let him get past them. Because they need a Ball Magnet Goalkicking midfielder.

Here you have it, straight from the North recruiting manager himself :D

I don't think he'll last to Norths pick.

Plenty of quality in the top 10 so it shouild be interesting to see in anyone takes a bolter that will throw a spanner in the works.......e.g Yarran in the top 8

If they do that will make it interesting

I'm hoping they do, because right now I think we'll sit 1 pick shy (Kangas pick) of either Sidebottom, Ziebell or Hartlett.

A bolter should allow at least one of those boys to slip.

I've got a feeling that Jarrad Blight will be a bolter. Has been a big improver this season and possesses a lot of excellent qualities (tall, versatile, quick, big engine, clean hands, thumping kick, and bottom-aged), but hard to gauge where he's rated given he didn't play in the U18 Championships or WAFL.

I see a bit of Soccer in this.

Archie Thompson and his 5 in Melbourne's GF few years back. European clubs were looking but he would never be able to deliver.
