I wonder how much people have seen of Steele through the year. We've truly jumped off the Blease bandwagon though :P. FWIF- I believe we'll get one of the established players of Hurely, Ziebell, Hartlet or Sidebottom. One club will definately take a punt on either Trengove, Yarran or Johnstone.

This- if anything is really good for us. We'll definately see a slider.

My reckoning is that the draft (till us) will pan out like this.

Watts
Rich
Nata
Vickery
Ziebell
Hartlett
Yarran
Sidebottom
Hurley

Hurley's stocks may fall after draft camp- and I believe Ziebell will be a big mover. If Yarran posts a good beep test score- he'll be the mover. If anything-Yarran may make a bit of a difference to the order. ? over his attitude can be assuaged in the interviews and drills- and if you get him right up there- and playing consistantly- he's even more skillful than Wells.
Johnstone could also rise- as could Tom Swift- if his medical's are good.

absoluteley awesome effort by sidebottom. one of the best individual performances i have ever seen. sidebottom 10.2 to Dandenong 9.7 to go with 32 touches and a few goals assisits is an unbelievable perfomance.

Good point. I'd take Hurley over almost every other player in the draft.

Pity he had a blinder in the final, most had him around #10, that performance will likely see him come down a fair bit.

If I were to have a wish-list of players in the draft i'd go:

Rich
Hurley
Sidebottom
Watts
Ziebell

What's for sure- if Sidebottom chose not to nominate this year (and Ziebell for that matter)- as they are both bottom age- they would be number 1 picks next year.
Rich because he's just so damn good- and I see him better than most in the draft. Hurley- because if we got him- we'd never have to worry about backline problems.
Hurley-Hansen-Pratt-Gibson-Urquart-Harding-Firrito-Smith. (brb)

Sidebottom- because I rate him as the player with the most potential. Add a yard of pace- reckon we could probably do that with greater endurance work- and he'll be a star of the AFL.

if i had to pick a weakness in his game today i would have said his pace. it will be interesting too see how he tests at draft camp.

I wouldn't say his pace was a weakness! He showed heels to players in the first half. I would say it is fitness. He had 9 straight before he just got worn out!

I found myself yelling for him to be benched or start making mistakes so he wouldn't go before pick 9!! Awesome display. Marking, kicking, just magic.

So we just have to alert Carlton and Richmond know that his weakness is he has only 9 kicks in him each game.

Shit. I had never seen him in a full game.
What a gun.

But he just put himself out of pick 9 contention.

Filthy tinarse.

Gee, you know I'm sensitive about that.

And so irrelevant too.

Man that game was awesome.

I would love to have Yaren though, if we cna get either of them I'd be stoked.
I don't believe Yarran will be as consistent as the others from this draft. Of what I've seen of him, he'll be a solid small-mid forward, with stints in the midfield. A (much) better Lindsay Thomas.

People seem to be forgetting young Hartlett. I still rate him ahead of both Ziebell and Steele. If we nabbed any of these players, we'd be a very happy team at Northorn.

As long they fix our defiencies i'll be happy but till then we are still far away from being premiers.

If he doesnt make it in the AFL he can always have a career in gay pr0n.

Steele Tightbottom

If it's a prosperous career he won't be Tightbottom for long

I imagine it wont be. But one thing is for sure he would have great body strength.

I still think we can get him with our pick 9 the only real dangers for us is Brisbane and maybe Richmond:mad:. The top 6, Sidebottom will not go in:thumbsu:

He is a great player and wanted him to come to the Kangas before he's great game on the weekend.

Honestly, it will come down to who the dons want more Hurley or Tinarse. From there only Brisbane could end up taking him as they need to cover their midfield.

Carlton and Richmond have enough midfielders. Maybe a bad trials could drop him down. But if he does have a shit one, will it make our club think twice about picking him up?

Carlton and Richmond might both be looking for talls.

Carlton might think with Judd, Stevens, Gibbs and Murphy and a few other fringe players there midfield is set. They might be looking at defenders plus if they want Warnock they might have to give up there first rounder.

VICTORIAN teenager Steele Sidebottom's standout performance in last Friday's TAC Cup grand final could see him catapult into top 10 contention at November's NAB AFL Draft, according to AFL national talent manager Kevin Sheehan.

Sidebottom booted 10 goals and picked up 32 possessions in the Murray Bushrangers' big win over the Dandenong Stingrays and Sheehan expected the 17-year-old's stocks to rise on the back of the dream game.

"That grand final performance can propel him," Sheehan said at the NAB AFL Draft Camp in Canberra on Wednesday.

"Others will make the call as to how far, but I know that prior to that game when I was asked to give my top 10, I nearly had him in there.

"I ended up going for a taller guy, but in my mind I had him around the top 10 mark anyway, so surely that sensational performance would rocket him right into contention amongst the best midfielders."

Sidebottom, nicknamed 'Rusty', started the 2008 season playing in the Bushrangers' back line before the coaching staff opted to utilise his exquisite skills on both feet further up the ground.

The AIS-AFL graduate said he was still pinching himself after last week's well-timed performance.

"I don't know where that game came from, but I wouldn't mind doing it every week," Sidebottom said with a laugh.

"I kicked 10 goals a couple of times back in U14s, but nothing like last week."

But Sidebottom's superb game was far from a one-off.

The devoted Essendon supporter completed the U16/U18 All-Australian double this year after an impressive championships display with Vic Country.

Sidebottom is already starting to develop a cult following as a result of his 10-goal haul and rock star-like name, but he said he was simply overawed by all the attention.

"I've never been in front of this many cameras and, as you can see, I'm shaking a bit now, but it's awesome," he said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"It's good that the draft camp is finally here, but it definitely has been a dream to get here.

"No one knows [how the recruiters are thinking]. Everyone is here trying to do the same thing and to get the same result, so wherever I go, it will be awesome."

If you want a talented bloke who can kick on both feet and play inside or outside as a midfielder and as a forward then this is the bloke we need to get.
