I am a fan of Steele and he showed why he is in the leadership group. I recognise some fans don't give him support but I don't care. For a guy who has just turned 23, debuted at 18, almost could have the Norm Smith, has taken the McHale and Joyce trophies, can cover 15kms in a game and has 2014 disposals above his career average, I think he's ok. He will NEVER have the long kick of others in the team but bombing isn't every thing in the modern game. Now 120 games IMO he can crack the 300. I would rather have him in the team than have to play against him.

The GC bloke did nothing wrong. You're crazy if you think that should be a free kick.
I would have put him on his arse. Any player 10 years ago would have.
Steele was smarter than me.
All praise the wise bottom.

Truthfully the GC guy deserved a slap, but we may have suffered the indignity of the maggots retort.
Steele did the wise thing.

Sidey is a better than elite small forward, playing as a mid.
When he gets a bit older he's going to tear the goal square a new arseh*le and people around here are going to kneel before him mumbling incoherent apologies.

The Games he Missed really showed that

I disagree. Players often step in to stop their teammates from pursuing a fight or retaliating but they do it in a way that shows they are on their side and just want what's best for them and the team. They don't put a bump on them, wave them off like they're an idiot and turn their back on them.
Leadership would have been to put May on his ass and show him that collingwood players stick up for each other and you don't push a collingwood player in to the fence without copping a punishment for it. We all applauded the captain pendlebury for putting dale Thomas on his ass for showing disrespect to Luke ball, Steele should have done the same thing.
I agree with this. I do like that Sidey intervened to stop a free kick against but not really the way he did it. I think it would have been much better if Steel had remonstrated with the GC guy on Brodies behalf after he bumped him out of the way.. or at least given Brodie a pat on the back or something to smooth it over...flying the flag for your teammates is an important part of leadership... and an important part of successful teams. Luke Hodge would have stepped in front of Brodie and remonstrated with the guy. Doesn't matter if the GC guy did nothing wrong.. if your teammate is p@ssed you help out and show everyone who's side you are on!

I liked the fact that Sidebottom stopped Grundy from doing something stupid. I don't like the way he did it. Even on match day watching it live it shocked me a bit. He waved him off as if to say "piss off idiot" Even if that is what he was thinking its not the look you want to give the opposition.
He should have just grabbed him and said "calm down don't do anything stupid" Was a very bad look IMO.
At last a considered realistic opinion.

Absolutely. Very well put.
Always in agreeance are me and the doodle man.

I'm a really big fan of Steele. I reckon he is our hardest worker...he transitions from offence to attack as good as anyone, and leads our 2 way running.
Probably could improve his defence then!

I was a fan of Sidey doing what he did. He knows Grundy could eat him if he wanted. I don't think Grundy would have felt belittled at all. Was a rush of blood that Sidey promptly defused in a split second. Showed real maturity and was in no way as aggressive as the slap Maxy gave Fas. No problem with it. That/s my considered and realistic opinion.

Body slams, Piledrivers, Randy The Macho Man as your avatar...

Seems like someone has been watching too much pro wrestling, but nobody told you that it's all scripted.
People don't actually do that stuff in real life you know :oops:
Lol do you think afl isn't scripted?
The comp has been rigged for years.

He had 10 Hitouts, 7 Touches.

That was a Stupid Post
He was playing at full forward and did a fantastic version of Jason cloke 2003 grand final

He was ****en horrible and was rightfully dropped

Some of the posts in this thread make me wonder how some people can say they like AFL. Seriously, it is an aggressive, physical and emotional sport. It is why I love it, but, reading some of this tripe makes me think others believe everything should be clearly thought out.....strangely, often the same people suggest our players do not play with enough aggression, heart, etc......:confused::confused::confused:

Did not want to start another thread, but saw this on YouTube tonight....thought it was very ****ing funny....if you have seen it, then move on...if not, Maybe you can see Steele stepping up.....:D

He is a smart player as well...knowing where to position himself defensively, and he is a natural crumbing forward as well.

He probably won't develop into an inside mid like many thought he might when he first came to the team, but I love his outside work-rate.

I have also noticed his body is starting to fill out a bit and he has a bit of muslce now which is something he always lacked. However, he is an endurance runner, so you wouldn't want him to beefed up.

His kicking is an issue, but I think it is as much about his workrate than anything. He works so hard that sometimes he just lacks penetration in his kicking. The good thing is that he makes good decisions, which means his turnovers don't usually cost goals the other way....but he could become far more effective if he tidied up that part of his game. He was a bit off against GC on the weekend.

His leadership is also coming out now which is pleasing to see. He is still very young, yet he is also an experienced player now. That makes him a valuable commodity.
Lets hope he doesn't put on too much muscle and start looking like Daisy...

Maxy's slap brought back memories of K Rudd clapping at the cricket.

I agree on flying the flag in general but after watching the incident multiple times the GC player really didn't do a hell of a lot it was a small push in the contest while in the field of play, Grundys own momentum while sliding on the ground is why he hit the fence.

But if it was more untoward then yes I agree Steele should fly the flag but in this situation I think he got it right.
He is a very smart footballer and obviously the club has had open discussions to Brodie and team mates about his timing of revenge.

May not have been the best way for Steel to calm him down as Brody could have felt a bit humiliated but i suppose the ends justify the means?

I don't have an issue with what Steele did, for him to do that there is clearly talk around coaching / playing group that Brody has issue with giving away stupid free kicks and he has acted to stop it. What May did wasn't worthy a free kick in the first place

I agree that May didn't do anything wrong, maybe I came across as sarcastic but I was thinking more about the way Sidebottom chose to handle it in such a manner that put himself above that sort of behavior, which depending on how Grundy handled it could have made him feel a bit humiliated or even mad at Sidebottom that he(grundy) can't even handle himself. My point could be petty and insignificant but I think those moments can affect relationships. So while Sidebottom potentially prevented a freekick, he may have came across as 'superior' to Grundy for lack of a better word.

edit; I still think it was neccessary for sidey to intervene, but he could have just got inbetween them and just say man don't worry about it lets get on with the game instead of bumping him and walking away as if grundy was an idiot
