9. STEF MARTIN
Other than the poor conversion, it was a total team performance by the Lions, starting with their +42 contested possessions.
It was also Martin’s best game of the season. He had a match-high 10 score involvements against the Swans, and his 21 disposals and 33 hit-outs were both season highs. But he let himself down missing a couple of set shots.
To be honest, I thought his season had been only fair, but he still has the third-most disposals among ruckmen, behind only Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn.
The Lions are just entering a window of premiership contention, so they'll be open to carrying a couple of older players who can still contribute – as long as they're not compromising the development of younger, longer-term players.
Stefan Martin
Every week is important for the 32-year-old, but Martin has held off the challenge of understudy Archie Smith with strong form. Out of contract and providing he finishes strongly, deserves another year. STAY
Brisbane GM of football David Noble said the re-signing of Martin was a key one for the club.
"Over the past three years Stef has become a valued member of our leadership group and continues to contribute," Noble said. "He invests so much of his time and energy into the team with the aim of achieving success."
He is the only player to not miss a game in Chris Fagan's three-year, 66-game, coaching tenure.
Stefan Martin, whose career began with a raft of injuries in his first seven years, has missed just four games in the past five seasons.
He told AFL.com.au a lot of staff needed credit. "It's tempting to single out a few but I've got no doubt our strength and conditioning guys play a huge role in that because you build a body that can withstand the rigours of the AFL and a lot of that is done by those guys and the programs they write," he said.
"It just gives us a great chance doesn't it? "It means there's pressure always on positions. If a man goes down, we've got another one ready to take their place."
Stefan Martin has enjoyed a much-improved run with injury in the past five seasons.
Torn PCL in Round 1 and will more than likely be back for Round 2.BRISBANE ruckman Stefan Martin will miss more than two months with a torn PCL, sustained during the club's disappointing round one loss to Hawthorn.
Scans revealed Martin sustained grade two damage during the incident, which occurred in the third quarter, and will subsequently be in a brace for the next six weeks.

Stefan Martin: Will be 34 by the start of the 2021 season, but continues to play an important role for Brisbane in the ruck. Might have one more year left in him.
Brisbane has been dealt a blow with ruckman Stef Martin to be sidelined for a significant amount of time after scans revealed a stress fracture in his back. Martin, 33, had been set to line-up on Sunday against his former club Melbourne at Metricon Stadium.
But having been unable to move freely at training during the Lions’ two-week stay in Sydney, Martin went for scans on Thursday, with results revealing the stress fracture. Martin is expected to miss up to eight weeks of football, with the Lions hoping to have him back in time for their finals assault.
His place in the Lions team is set to go to Archie Smith, who deputised for Martin earlier this season in matches against West Coast and Adelaide when the veteran injured his hamstring.
Lions general manager of football David Noble praised Martin for playing through the pain in recent matches.“After a couple of weeks persevering with some referred pain, recent scans have revealed that Stef has a stress fracture in his lower back,’’ Noble said. “Further investigation and scans will be done in the coming days to fully diagnose Stef’s injury. “Unfortunately, this will rule Stef out for up to eight weeks until we get some certainty around the injury. “Stef has shown enormous resilience over the last few weeks as well as the last several years.”
Injuries have haunted Martin this season. He tore the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the Lions’ opening round loss to Hawthorn in March but with the competition being suspended due to COVID-19 after that weekend, he fit enough to return for Brisbane’s round two win over Fremantle on June 13.
Stefan Martin
The veteran ruckman has battled with his body this season, playing just five games, and is currently trying to overcome a stress reaction in his back. Brisbane has 37 players already contracted for 2021, meaning 33-year-old Martin will have to wait until season's end to learn his fate. Watch for the Lions to move early on Harris Andrews, Hugh McCluggage and Zac Bailey, who all come out of contract in 2021.
VETERAN ruckman Stefan Martin is on track to return for Brisbane's finals campaign as he continues to make good progress from a back injury. Martin has missed the Lions' past seven matches, recovering from stress fractures, with Oscar McInerney excelling in his absence as the No.1 ruckman.
But Brisbane's football manager David Noble says Martin is almost ready to put his hand up for a recall. "Stef was running on Saturday before our practice match with Collingwood. He's actually moving along really well," Noble said. "If there's some good progression with him in the next couple of weeks, we might be able to squeeze a practice match in with him before the bye (ahead of finals), which would be pretty encouraging. "That's where it is today, we don't know if he gets a little setback or it takes a little longer, but we're really comfortable with the loads he's getting up to."
Just a day after AFL.com.au revealed Virgin Australia AFL All Australian defender Harris Andrews would be missing for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury, it was mixed news on the medical front for the Lions as they continue to juggle their big-man stocks. Archie Smith has now played two practice matches on return from an ankle problem and is in the frame to replace youngster Tom Fullarton (quad) and partner McInerney against Gold Coast on Wednesday night.
