Another possible thought, one that also floats my boat.

Been lurking on the Fremantle board, and their general consensus is they'd prefer to develop Sandliands, keep J-Lo and give Simmonds the trade for a tough inside /defensive midfielder. Something Stenglein is exactly.

Simmonds would be great for us I think - good ruckman, very good mark.

If Stenglein wants to go home, we should chase Simmonds if the Waters deal i a no-go.

Only problem is, Chubs Connolly has been playing him 'out of position' in a semi-successful experiment to turn him into a CHF/FF (while Pav runs around like a headless chicken in the midfield, discuss) - so it might take a fair while to turn him back into ruckman.

Full of controlled aggression though - has a blackbelt in one of the martial arts - and if we could get him in exchange for Stenglein I'd definitely do it.

Yeah I would go for that, I would prefer Waters but like I have stated 100's of times before its unlikely but yeah if Freo are willing to part with Simmonds we would have him.

I will discuss.

Pavlich has all the attributes to be a gun CHF - man-mountain, excellent endurance and, at least once a long time ago, strong hands. But Chubs has been determined to exploit his windtank and turn him into a tall midfielder. Now sure, he is OK at it, but I think someone with his attributes should be playing CHF, and he hasn't reached his full potential - when someone like Riewoldt is showing what he can do when moved from the wing to full-time CHF. I'm concerned Pavlich's hands maybe arne't what they used to be, and that it's been too long now. He's not really 'tearing games apart' anymore, and after all the hype its fair to say he's almost gone backwards.

Unequivocally agreed.

I hope some hardcore karma hits the stupid ********s at the AFC who made Pavlich 'second option' in order to chase Carey, when Pav openly admitted would have come home to us if we'd chased him.

Seriously, a 32 year-old gun who has been out of the game for 1 year and could only offer 2 years at best, or a 21 year-old gun with sublime skills who could hold down CHF for 10 years?

A real pickle that one....

:(

Stenglein want to go to West Coast not Fremantle. I would probably take the Snake for Stinger but it won't happen.

Interesting report on Ch7 that West Coast are prepared to double Stinger's current salary. At $400K a year they can have him;)

 r u serious??? that astounds me. i cant believe we would pay that much for stenglien with more highly credentialed players namely judd and kerr going to have huge pay rises in the next few seasons.

Shows that you obviously now nothing about your club. Sitting there telling us 'he's only a tagger' and 'WCE don't really need him' and 'we're not going to go after him'.

Red faces, anyone?

Well I can tell you that Stinger is on around $200K a year with us. Channel 7 clearly stated that West Coast are making big play for him and are prepared to double his current salary. So looks like Eagles are prepared to pay $400K for him. I know you guys don't see eye to eye with some poesters on this board when it comes to his trade worth but I can honestly say to you that WC have been VERY keen on him for a number of years now and are hell bent on getting him this year, even if it means paying a bit more than he is worth.

I would prefer not to post my source on the board but if you want to know who I get my info from PM me and I will tell you as long as you keep it confidential;)

Be careful Spinny, just wait and see what happens :p ...if it happens get stuck right into em, I'll be right there with ya too. :D

i have said in nearly everyone of the many stenglien threads that i would seriously consider trading our 1st round pick. our 2nd rounder is on the table from day one of trading, and our first round pick will probly be offered at the end of the trade week if we still have it.

i am more worried that we will pay him $400k. i cant believe that, as i said i would have thought that with judd coming out of contract next year we will probly need $600k to keep up with clubs like collingwood and essendon.

Saw him against St Kilda on the weekend and on that game you would have to be joking. Useless as.
Got caught in between contests all night, wandered around and was a real liability.

No to this deal definately

Apparently Stenglein doesn't want to come to freo. If that is true, which is possible, i don't think a deal will be struck with fremantle unless a 3 way trade is done including the eagles.

If Stenglein wants to go home, WC first preference, Fremantle 2nd preference, he would go to either club if he really is homesick

Agree with all the above. I don't want Simmonds either. He's plain not good enough IMO.

When Stenglein goes, the deal has to be for a mid-fielder with a future.

Waters from the Eagles or Schammer if it's Freo.

Stick the rest!!

Prepare to "stick the rest".

Stenglein is a solid A-grade player, but definitely not worth $400,000. I'd have thought that $275,000 would be closer to his worth.

Still, if the Eagles want him that bad and are prepared to pay him $400K, then it seems to me that maybe they are prepared to give up someone like Waters.

Suits me. :D

i wouldn't believe that for a number of reasons:

One with Judd coming out of contract next year, they wouldn't be able to afford both Stenglein and Judd and i think keeping Judd is of a higher priority.

400k would make Stenglien about the third highest paid player at the eagles behind Cousins and Gardiner. Stenglien's good but not that good.

Eagles don't have that much money to throw around. The reason Read was delisted was problems with the cap. That's also one of the reasons Wirra had to take a pay cut and go on a preformance based contract.

West Coast might be keen on him but Stenglien but i don't think they would risk losing Judd and maybe a Wirrpunda next year due to salary cap pressure in order to get him.

Sorry, just realised i posted basically the samething here as a did on another thread. :p

Stenglein is gone, packed his bags and will be playing for West Coast next year. I doubt WC would be paying him $400k, he isn't an elite player and would only be a rotational midfielder at West Coast. I doubt WC would trade Waters to get Stenglein, Waters was a mid first round pick last year and has impressed early, Stengleins not worth that much, from what I've heard Waters has no great desire to return to SA anyway.

Has Chris Judd already made it very clear to the WCE management that he wants to return to Melbourne at the end of season 2005? Offering Tyson 400 K a year, if he is worth that much, juddy would be 750 easy wouldn’t he.

I would be putting money on judd living in Toorak before the Commonwealth games
