Goddard wrote an interesting article re Coniglio and Hawks. Clarkson is attractive no question but where the Hawks list is at not so much.

Just another opinion to throw into the mix on what Conligio may be thinking
The guy hasn't watched a Hawks game all year (i hope so at least or he just has NFI). The article was reallllllly bad.

LOL it's his old man in the top left photo not SOS. What a load of s**t.

I am quite happy for saints to get congnilio as it would do absolutely nothing for st kilda's chance. St kilda isn't short of any one player, their game-style won't stand up to finals intensity and their players do not have leadership. Congnilio is perfectly suited to a team that is in the NOW ala Geelong, Richmond, Collingwood, West Coast but that won't happen due to salary cap. He can be of great benefit to those knocking on the 8 but cap is a problem to most. Im surprised we haven't even bothered to enquire, probably have a new approach in that our most successful recruits have been to get those near enough but not yet good enough to become A graders who are the mainstays of a team and not outright superstars. Congnilio cannot get any better hence getting him in for 1.4 million for 5 years will only been constant or stagnation if not a severe injury due to adapting to new game-plan and more scrutiny by opp.

Well i have seen a few and they are near enough but not good enough. Progressively gotten worse as the year went on.

Near enough but not good enough? Sounds like an All Australian superstar mid could be a good target for them :)

Errrrrr well yes in theory, kind of need cap space. From my limited knowledge based on what i have heard from Dermett, your salary hierarchy is structured with the captain having the highest amounts. Hodge at his best was only around 650k so i wonder how much you are going to pay Congnilio. Let's say the hawthorn factor reduces his market value, saints are willing to pay 1.4, how much would you do? 1.1, i highly doubt a player who is worth 1.4 mil would do for 900k and also Hawthorn is a bottom 4 team minus all the great players and the assistant coaches. Can't see it done, hawthorn needs to gut its list hirikiri style to fit him in the cap.

Why would Coniglio leave a team playing finals to one on the slide? $s, no !

How much can West Coast afford for either of them? Must be very, very well managed if you have a premiership list and a mil to spare

You dont manage on a year to year basis, Gov signed on unders, NicNat re signed for less, Kennedy hasnt got lots left in him, same for Hurn.
IF Coniglio moves, the Eagles will be waiting.

Isn’t gov on close to 1 mill a year? Wouldn’t say that’s unders. If you had a choice between cogs or Kelly who would u go with? Assuming that gws would match and a trade had to be done either way

I dont doubt you can find room for one of them but if 1.1m a season is unders than what was he worth....

And before you reply "The Worst" they all report the sameish

Yes this is very accurate in theory and also he is a great and sensible get for WC as window is still open for you guys. But he is vic bound...so far the likes of Geelong, Collingwood and Richmond are out because they have no more cap space without gutting the whole list, Hawthorn as good as its reputation is a bottom 4 side without any leader of note, we north hasn't inquired and as far as a few weeks ago was a basket case (if we played like this since the beginning things could well be different), bulldogs are irrelevant, this leads to st kilda and carlton. There are already rumors circulating that it is a done deal for him to go to st kilda.

Even though the saints know he’s not going there and have already moved on. There is only one club in Victoria he is considering and it’s the one this board desperately wants him not to go to.

I could make an argument for 5 clubs;

Freo: Home sweet home

WCE: Home for success

Stk: upward trajectory, Most money

Carl: Young list with lots of talent, well paying

Haw: Big Victorian club

On the flip side I could argue against all 5 clubs

Freo: Not in the window or well paying

WCE: No money

Stk: Slowly rising and playing a slow less exciting brand of footy.

Carl: Less money then STK, still half way through a rebuild

Haw: Not rising, going down for a rebuild, no money.

I think Cogs will not go home, no draw from Freo, no money and have a list that minus, Fyfe, Mundy, Walters, (all coming to the end) is looking a little bland. How do the Eagles fit him in to the cap.
Hawthorn are going to need to bottom out and go again, missing pivotal talent in the 19-23 range Worpel, Hardwick, Sicily, (who is 24). But are missing keys and need to draft before going again. I would rule those three clubs out.

That leaves the Saints and the Blues. I would pick the Saints

A. More money
B. I would argue that they are more closer to a flag
C. Have talented youth that are proving they can be elite, Billings, Gresham, Clark, Coffield, and more.

With all that I reckon he stays at GWS and this all this discussion is for nothing.

But if he leaves, Welcome to St Kilda Steve. Make yourself at home.
