The question is not "do the Hawks have money". The question is "can/will the Hawks outbid other clubs". I can see an argument for him taking a bit less to go to Hawthorn over Carlton/St Kilda, but I'm skeptical he'd take around $800-900k to go to Hawthorn, and I'm not sure the Hawks would bid Buddy money for him.

That is correct. Usually Hawthorn don’t overpay for a player “salary wise” unless your name is Ty Vickery. :(

You’re list
What? You're looking at our list and somehow concluding we have no money. How do you figure that? You can't argue our list is poor and have no money. We don't throw cash around like Saints, Blues or North, so there isn't going to be a lot of huge salaries on our list.

"Your" list.

Birchall, Schoenmakers, Rough, Puopolo and very likely Smith will not be at hawthorn. Estimate their salaries combined? Birchall signed his last deal in 2016, Schoenmakers in 2017. There is literally 2 Million+ in that group.

We 'throw money cos we have them.....lol

Well if he's going to leave at all I'm not sure which of the top 4 teams would have the cap space tbh.

Richmond re-signed Dustin Martin and won a flag in 2017 then at the end of 2018 signed Tom Lynch as a tier 1 free agent.

Why are West Coast drastically different? No one rated their list in 2016, no one rated ours in 2017. They lost Deledio, Vickery, Chaplin, Moore at the end of 2016. We lost Priddis, Mitchell, Butler, Petrie, Giles, Hill, Wellingham at the end of 2017.

Coniglio is 26 and will probably play another 7-8 years. I'm confident if he wanted to join WC we could accommodate a salary for him over that period regardless of whether 2020 was $1m or $100k.

Right you just put lines through them and then get Patton and cog, lol this isnt nba2k19 or fifa2019. The names u mentioned are the core players meaning the list is built around them. They are old now and no longer as good but they still hold important roles. Who are their replacements? I'm sure Patton and cog can play multiple positions.....at the same time.

Well, they are going to retire. Once they stop playing they are no longer on the list. PS If you think Patton is 900k a year after 3 knees you have rocks in your head. He will be a 3rd rounder at best to wherever he goes and will be on 500 max

Why the **** would he come to your club when another might offer him more years at higher rate? You can bring up medico, most club has decent medico systems.......certainly not unique to hawthorn. Money and security is particularly important for a patton like player. For instance st kilda needs a ruck, bulldog could do with a big forward and st kilda got shitloads of money. If Hannebury is offerd 850k for 5 years, Patton is worth far more. Also you touched on retiring, the players mentioned are not going to retire altogether, if they do your club is ****ed. Can only afford to lose at most 3 a year without causing any upheaval.

WC can’t afford him
Tim Kelly won’t play for Freo
B. Hill is contracted and Freo won’t budge

We all know that contract means diddly squat these days, player wants to go, he will get there, holding them to contract only increase the resentment, reduces player output hence less trade value. Hill isn't Tim Kelly, his form might dissipate over the summer holidays hence it would great for freo to get the best deal for him when he is playing really well. Should be able to get a 1st rounder at the clubs in the 8.

My 2 year old nephew knows more about football than you do

Why wouldn't they? "Birchall, Schoenmakers, Rough, Puopolo and very likely Smith" Of that list, only Poppy and Smith have played the majority of games. Birch and Schoey haven't played this year at all and Rough has only played a handful of games. Losing all 5 in one hit isn't going to affect us a whole lot.

They supply leadership and stability factor to the clubs. Familiar faces are as important as the players on the field. You come to work one day suddenly seeing a dozen new faces around you, they are all highly functional and competent people but because they are new, you won't trust them as much as the ones they have replaced who were less competent and function but you know them better. That's why.

Yes that might be true but he most definitely knows a lot more than you.

Ill delete my account if Rough, Pup and Schoenmakers are on hawthorns list next year and anyone plays Patton more than 600k a year outside his current contract.

Isn’t gov on close to 1 mill a year? Wouldn’t say that’s unders. If you had a choice between cogs or Kelly who would u go with? Assuming that gws would match and a trade had to be done either way

Unders if the $1.2 numbers tossed about were correct.
I can't see us offering the most, but we can still afford to make him a decent offer, ie circa 1 mill (Rad Roo is living in a different universe with his No Money claim). I don't think Cogs is driven by money, so I don't think we need to offer him the most either. One massive draw card we have over St Kilda and Carlton is our coach. His choices are either a coach who he doesn't yet know, a coach who he does know who may or may not be there next year or the best coach in the league who has reaffirmed time and time again he'll stay on. I think that would factor heavily on his decision.

I know people like to dismiss his connection with Jaegar and while it wouldn't be a huge factor, it'd still be a factor. If you had a choice of 3 job offers and all had their pros and cons, why wouldn't you consider the one where your best mate works?

The Hawks lost a B&F in the 90s because he wanted to be around his younger brother .

This was the list of players Chioli gave you that will likely leave the club at the end of the year "Birchall, Schoenmakers, Rough, Puopolo and very likely Smith".

Only 2 of those 5 have been regulars this year, but you think they 'hold important roles'.

Why are you so keen on discussing a club you clearly know very little about?
