We have players who could do that, if they were played in that way.

Instead we have Pavlich at the drop of the ball. Agility and break away pace are not his strengths.

Hey Harves, you complete muppet: Why don't you stop putting a slow, lumbering key forward, who can only run one way and not defend, in the middle? It's staring you right in the ****ing face and you are too ****ing stupid and stubborn to see it.

Such a weak excuse from him. He is clearly not up to it as coach.

In the clinches it is though.

How many times will see you a Freo player break away from a ball up or contest. Unless we have some fancy handpass out the side of the pack, we never break away from contests.

Hopefully that is what Harvey was trying to allude at, but knowing him he probably wants some more Pitt/Hill type players. We do need pace, but only if its in the mould of a Shuey (best young example)

It's amazing really the club hasn't contacted you 2 to run the footy dept. You seem to have all the answers between you.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

It would take a lot to get his kid but we need a clearance machine.

haha love the scientific breakdown of why we need probably the number 1 or 2 draft pick. we also need goal kicking machines, goal stopping machines, and accurate kicking machines. or any other type of machine really :thumbsu:

The only way we could get this kid is to trade Pavlich or Sandilands to GWS and insist we get one of the first two picks as part of the trade package. If the GIANTS can pick him in the draft, they will and they'll hold onto him as tightly as they can.

Would take a massive offer to get him....would have to advantage us big time for us to trade one of those Top 3 picks!

Only way we won't get Coniglio is if he chooses cricket

Well, E Shed. He's had four years to sort out how to stop being belted through the middle, and aside from the reactive strategy of putting Pavlich there, his answer is more pace? Who is missing from the middle that is pacy? Morabito? That's it. It's another in a long line of weak excuses from Harvey.

Well if you think about it.

Barlow = not fast
Lower = not fast
Mundy = not fast
Broughton = not fast

I agree on the 'smart footballers' over 'fast footballers' though, however I can see the point in thinking we need speed. We look pedestrian in comparison. Got beat with speed from stoppages against the Saints.

Barlow was quick, he just looked slow. Hopefully he can do some work over the pre-season to get closer to where he was last season. I can't imagine there would a huge focus on agiligity/acceleration during his recovery.

De Boer is quick, if he's our negating midfielder he'll be around the ball more often than not. He just needs to start playing more like Clinton Jones and less like Ryan Crowley.

Morabito is quick. Hill is quick. Mayne is quick. Ballantyne is quick. Ibbotson is quick. We've got enough players with speed that can play around the contest. Unfortunately this season they're all flat and/or playing in different roles.

I said it earlier in the season and I'll say it again. The coaches have become so caught up in plugging holes and filling gaps that they're overlooking what half our players strengths are. Over the pre-season they really need to take a step back, reasess and get back to basics.

This ^^ well said

Write this season off, lets sacrifice some lambs on Freo oval before the pre-season, and start again...

Reckon it's the bolded bit when it comes to the clearances. None of those guys have had the chance to impact there (Mora for obvious reasons), and they could have.

And definitely agree with the last paragraph.

As for DeBoer, the one thing I'd have him work on during the offseason (post recovery of course) is his lateral movement. It's the one weak point I've seen in his movement. He struggles to change direction quickly, unless he's trying to run straight forward. Sometimes hard to tell as he has great explosive pace, which makes it less obvious. Respectably quick at top speed, but a great first couple of steps.

Could make big difference if he could provide some extra help at clearances in addition to the work he already does. Great negator and team player, but I'd love to see him dig a few more clearances up off the deck when the opportunity presents, and reckon the extra mobility would help with this. He already has the frame, the commitment and the background (from juniors) to do it.

Why would he leave GWS? He's playing alongside the second best midfielder in the league.

That was in regards to clogged talking about "the second best midfielder" being at GWS.

I'm curious if he will be a free agent at the end that two year deal though.

Ahh ok, i didn't see that.

I assume the idea of him signing for just the 2 years was so he would become a FA, its good business.
