Also worth note'n that since Gibbo came on board that he and Gilly have only played 18 of 55 games together ....food for thought ....

Very underrated stat I think HBD.

I wonder how many times Schoey, Gilham, Gibbo & Stratts have all played together? Certainly wouldn't think it's more than 5 times; & one (Friday Night) was Gilham's return game. Give this 4 10 games to gel; add Guerra, Birchall, Burgoyne, Suckling & Hodge as support; then watch them become the best defensive unit in the league.

I think it's very underrated what our Defensive Unit will become by season's end.

I was absolutely stunned at how much Gilham brought to the team on Friday night. He just knows where to be and when. Lacks the defensive spunk of Gibson, but he seems like a coaches wet dream - just sets up the whole structure.

In 2008 he was quite often the one that received the ball then crossed it over to Young, Crawford, Dew, Birchall on the opposite flank, setting us up for a forward thrust.

We've missed his stability, LP. I almost forgot about his role back in 2008, until you mentioned it here.

Brant's post is spot on, I reckon. It would be fantastic to see all that back 6 settled and able to play some games together to develop a routine/strategic position during games.

For a premiership-hopeful team to be injury-free at the right time during the season is paramount. Gilham plus Gibson plus Stratton plus Guerra plus Hodge (or Burgoyne) plus a confident Schoey? Yes, please.

An injury-free ruck department would be a wet dream. I live in fear of Roughy doing a knee every time he lands after a ruck contest. To the goal square, Sir Orange of Rough!

Welcome back Gilly - no fanfare just slipped straight back in with minimum fuss and did what he does best. Said to the other half watch how much shoey comes on when both Gilly and gibbo are playing - people will eat their words

I think he was still a little underdone in terms of match fitness - being out for a season will do that to you I guess. If either Gibbo or Hodge had got up I don't think we would have risked him to be honest. Having said that, I'm glad he played.

I think it helps Shoey to have him there too, especially when Gibson isn't there.

Is the key too us imo .....
Allow, s the back line too structure up completly diff ....
Two talls now down back now, Gibbo now becomes the third up spoiler which he is the best in the comp at .....Stratt's can play on tall or short , and Birch goes back too being the best rebounding Defender in the comp ....not a third tall Def ...
Add too that two players who use the ball by foot as good as any ( Goo and Suckers ) and a small we can push back there if needed (Poppy) , its onward and up ward for our back line ....:thumbsu:
OH forgot about Hodgey ...:0 / ;)

Hodge who????? :p

Can't count that one Brant .....No Gibbo ...:D

It was great to see him out and about on friday. I went home and watched the replay twice, the first time was just to focus on him and the impact he had on the game. I must admit i've never really appreciated what he did for our defensive structure & rebound, but I do now
