And I know its a week ago... but hills laser to barlow against the cats... i was annoyed he didn't finish until i saw that pass... he probably still should have taken the shot but what a friken pass!!

Was an amazing pass.

It's great when players have confidence in each other. Not many in the league would have attempted that kind of delivery especially when barlow's marker was right on his back

I've said several times before and ill say it 11-12 more times at least...

BEST KICK IN THE COMPETITION.

Yep, he is right up there with his kicking. He can kick long and hard if required but most of his kicks directed to a team mate are of the Goldilocks variety. Not too hard, not too soft, not too high and not too low but just right. The guy he kicks it to can usually receive it chest high and without breaking stride.

Stephen is a major beneficiary of the extra midfielder we now have with Ryan Crowley being out.
It is the total equation of the entire midfield. Even if Sydney were to make Hill their focus it is likely Danyle will step up as the speedy outsider.
This will be a key factor later on in the year. Hill won't continue to run free (unless all opposition coaches are idiots). Even so, I have been hugely impressed with Pearce's development and feel pretty good about him being the free man now. Looks so much more composed on the ball. Just took a look at the stats from the first three rounds and was also not surprised to find that he is averaging over 7 contested possessions per game as well. Certainly not afraid to get his hands dirty anymore.

was just having a quiet smile when I saw your post :)
Don't need to stand up for Stephen anymore, he's a man now and in our wonderful coaching system is reaching the potential that we all hoped he would.
He was always going to take a while, so young, raw and shy when he was drafted. I still maintain that there would be very few players who have had such a torrid first 100 games because of his ability to impact our scoring and the lack of quality players around him to take the attention off. Perhaps Judd and a few others but he (Judd) was far better equipped mentally to take the attention.

Ross remarked when he came to the club that he though Hill was about where he'd expect in terms of his development and that he had a lot of improvement in him. He's brought him along beautifully and they've finally configured the midfield in a way that lets Hill run off half back or a wing or go forward without requiring him to necessarily contest the first bounce and let a tagger get a bead. He's always moving now between half back and forward and is masterful at picking his moment to receive a handball from a stationary player or to get involved in transition.

He would be close to if not the most beautiful player in the game to watch in full flight. I love the little kick as he comes up onto his toes to accelerate when he receives. I doubt anyone gets to full pace as quickly and certainly no one consistently uses the ball better.

I called him the chosen one when he was drafted and someone else gave him the monicker golden child. I think perhaps Fyfe is the chosen one but Hill is still the golden child to me. The symbol of our rebirth at the end of 2008 and coming into his prime at just the right time for what looks like a pretty serious tilt from Freo this year.
This :hearts:

They seem to be suggesting Cunningham on the Swans board. However, there could be some value in putting Mcglynn onto hill as well. there is always the potential that if things go pear-shaped for the Swans that Jack sacrifices his own game to shut out Stephen.

I still think that the tag on hill can be negated a fair bit by getting him confident early and looking for him as much as possible.. his pace, carry, vision, creativity and delivery make him worth looking for.

It will be interesting to get a true reflection on the growth of his inside game against the better teams and when he is tagged. Cornes mostly took him out of the game against the power.

For some god awful reason I cant stop thinking about Palmer as the rebirth :(

I'm sure there was a find in that draft too?? But yeah, like any great team there's always 'that year' were you recruit a fair part of your future success.

Nothing wrong with that, I still think of Palmer really fondly. He was a beacon of hope in what was otherwise a wretched year. But everything started changing at the end of 2008.

I agree. I think of Rhys really fondly. I am very happy to see him playing good footy at GWS and I remember how truly good he was in 2008.

If they manage to stifle Stephen they then have Danyle to worry about. They just haven't got the speed to stop them both.
Then Ross has a third ace up his sleeve. Another deadly left foot kick, in Suban. Nic's not as fast but by this time he doesn't need to be.

I've really liked his inside game this year, definitely tougher over the ball. He's really filled out through the core.

I think you're a few years late with this observation. His contested ball has become a real strength over the last few years. This year however, his clearances and contested ball stats are lower than they have been in 3 years. The real difference is that he's finding more space.
