If you ever want to read a thread filled with nonsense and hyperbole, this is a great candidate.

SHill was putrid on the weekend, but far out so many of you have shocking memories. It was just a few short weeks ago he was among our best. Plus he was in superb form prior to his injury last year.

The comparisons to others in his draft year are a joke, he was a fantastic selection and remains one of the best kicks in the AFL. Stephen is the classic player who plays very well when those around him are playing well (which is not an admirable trait mind you...).

Chances are he will bounce back and crucify the Saints this weekend with precision disposal off half-back. His performance was close to the worst in the AFL over the weekend statistically. Statistics also say that the likelihood of that happening again next weekend is low. Give him a chance to make up for it.

Steven Hill is an A grade wingman. I understand the need for flexibility, but I much prefer him to stay on a wing.

I know what opposition clubs think when they see him jog off into a back pocket - 'thank f*ck for that, we don't have to worry about Hill hurting us today'.

Worst case of being Barlowed since.. well.. Barlow.
His brother, Langdon, and Tucker are also wingmen, so someone has to play backline. Langdon has taken that spot with both hands, so that's likely why he is now pushed back.

Quad injury. Listed as a test for Round 8.

Yeah, well that makes sense. Lets see what we do now.

Recent history with him suggests he will try to play through it and be so-so while doing it - neither fully recovering nor free enough from injury to play to his lofty potential. I sure hope it doesn't turn out that way. If he isn't right, don't stuff around, just rest him.

Injured player performs poorly. Cops flak. Joe Daniher anyone? **** it shits me when teams put injured players on the park. You have a list of 40+ to choose from. Why risk these players? Borders on negligent.

should not have played him then...
They said he picked up the injury during the game.

West Coast always put a lot of time into nullifying Stephen Hill. They managed to keep him quiet but he developed a quad prob during the Richmond game that slowed him down before being pulled at some stage in the 4th. Before the West Coast game he had been playing reasonably well with a couple of games in the best 4 or 5 and mentioned during commentary how important he is.

I agree with others give him the week off. He doesn’t seem to play well with niggles.

A great servant of the club but sadly I'm thinking his time is up. 28 games since the 2018 season, hasn't played since round 18 2020.

2018: 13 games
2019: 3 games
2020: 12 game
2021: none so far

Seems to be stuck in limbo, I'm always seeing a TBA against his name in the injury lists. I hate a TBA, does anyone have any further info on his situation?

Would love to see him back, but I'm starting to doubt it will happen. Turns 31 in about a week. Not old, but he just can't get on the park. Longmuir has dismissed retirement talk. Surely with this amount of time out he would need to return through the WAFL?

Freo should be quietly coaxing him to retire. Its tough, I know, but sentimentality only goes so far in this business.

Players like Sandi, Pav, McManus and Ballas hung around too long for the good of the club. They are club legends to be sure but time marches on.

We need to be looking at local talent come mid season.

Agree with the quietly coaxing him to retire (if he doesn't return or keeps getting injured). It IS tough, but if he can't get himself together what else is there to do?

prpl_jss do you know something we don't? I'd like to hear your opinion, rather than a simple dislike.

The club obviously think they can get him together, with the new S&C team or they wouldn't have come out and said what they said today. They know a lot more about it than this idle speculation and so far all you've posted is stating the two obvious potential outcomes, not much of a primer for a good solid debate now is it?

I disagree that Pavlich went on too long tbh. There was some games in 2016 he was good. We certainly had no one else as a key forward, except Taberner who was playing anyway.

Also disagree it has to be local talent. Did you miss the fact that all footy in Victoria didn’t happen? Local talent is preferable if all else is equal. It might not be in the MSD.

He's contracted until the end of this year and has yet to play a game, with no indication of when he will return.

The new S&C team can't even give any indication of when he will be back.

I'm not looking for a debate I'm looking for an opinion.

He’ll be fine. Just needs to take it slow and wash all of the Weber out of him.

I sincerely hope you're correct.

But the big question is, Why? A guy that was a high pick that was good but not great, without the fan favourite aspect, doesnt have a spot in the best 22 in this team currently. All emotion aside, resign before mid year pick and let Fremantle take a pick. Wont happen because why lose 200k a year even on the bench?

Shill is the exact type we should prioritise in the draft after a KPF too.

Wonder if there is somebody like him about since our version makes me sad now.
Think Brandon Walker might be the closest thing we have to the next SHill. Will be a bit of a slow build though...
