he is the complete package. Inside-outside, it doesn't matter. He is adept at both. Smooth as silk yet tough in the clinches

it's like having Nick Dal Santo and Luke Ball in one body

Yes, would love him at Westcoast.

But this thread if full of unhealthy hype.

I'd consider the hype around Rich and Naitanui far more "unhealthy", all pre-season Fremantle were bagged for taking Hill over Rich, and now that he's showing some excellent signs to validate our recruiters selection, it isn't somehow justifed?

Remove that chip old buddy, Hill has been very good and will only get better, Rising Star or not.

exactly. and now im just soaking it up

There are some players who you just love watching, you'll go out of your way to watch a team because of a particular player. To his credit, Steve Hill is one of those players after just a handful of games. Gonna enjoy watching him over the next 10+ years, hopefully they won't stop him from playing in his natural way too much.

If Connolly was still in charge that would be an issue - Harvey (although he does like to experiment with switching players' positions - see Tarrant), he does seem to like to let the young guys have their heads a bit and just go for it. It's so exciting as a Freo supporter to see a guy like Hill doing what he does. We thought we had it good with Palmer last year, but this kid is something out of the box!

It's also a very strange experience hearing commentators like Walls and Lane getting all hot and bothered with excitement over a bloke that plays for Freo. They normally can't find enough insults and derisive comments to throw at us - and here we are listening to them say how awesome he is and what great vision our recruiters had to select him at #3. :D

Agreed. I watched him last night. A pure gem, and a delight to watch. No fear. Everything you want in a player.

Star!

Good to see the recruiting staff of Freo back themselves in and take the player they really wanted and not who the media wanted i.e Rich.

Collingwood did the same thing in 2005 with Thomas and in particular, Pendlebury.

Some traits from his junior career that have translated into AFL:

Combination of speed, endurance and evasiveness. --> Captain obvious.

Something people may not know, his disposal effiency was 80% in the colts. Which is actually elite.

At the carnival he had the best disposal efficiency of all players who had more than 15 possessions.

Disposal efficiency this year at AFL = 78%.

His 1%ers with taps into his own path, into a team mate's path... are just phenomenal.

Credit to the Dockers for backing such a risky talent firstly with selection at the draft, now with game time in a free role.

Nana, na na nah, you didn't get him, you got a Fijian heptathlete instead, nah na, na, na nah. Thats better.:)

Hey let's not get too carried away just yet. Hill still has a way to go before he can be compared to Dal Santo and Ball.

Having said that, he looks a great prospect. He has good pace, skills and composure. I think the Dockers have finally got a draft pick right for a change.
