Yep what a star, I had been away for the first four weeks of the season, the first game I watched was the Sydney game...... what a season so far! :)

He is the first player we have had that has been able to run away/around/over/through people, plus he goes when it's his turn. First time we have had someone that both our supporters and others get excited about when the ball is near him...

The opposition doesn't know whether to tackle or hang back, and even though I dislike walls so greatly when he starts saying nice things about hilly I have to remind myself we don't like him and that apart from this occasion he doesn't have a clue what he is on about!

Naita was easily one of the safest picks last year ... standout U18 CV, highly durable in U18s and excellent impact for a 200cm U-18 at WAFL level ... IMO will definitely be a L/T AFL player (barring injury) and anywhere from good to outstandingly amazing.

MUCH bigger risks from the 1st round: Davis (little-no form at higher levels i.e U16N, U18N or SANFL seniors), Johnston (talented but headcase), Cordy (v.talented but has nothing on him), Brown (no U16 or U18C form) and Schoenmakers (laconic and doesn't impact enough)
Who the hell is Brown anyway? I don't remember him at all.

And I agree about Natanui. At the worst he will be a very good tap ruckman. It's about as safe as you get.

The amount of turncoat fans on here who bagged the club and him out. Now i see some are even on here joining in the praise for him...

Patience is a virtue.
Name names.

I don't recall anyone really bagging him out, even though they preferred others.

Niknat was the biggest risk in the draft, absolutely no doubt about that.

I defiantly agree he is a great athlete but as a footballer he is a big risk. People think cause his a great athlete there for he will be a great football player which often isn't the case.

Another thing i like about Hill is the fact that he is top 5 in tackles at the club even though he is small he still isn't afraid to go hard at it.

1. Schammer 34
2. Mundy 28
3. Peake 28 ( wow!!! from Peake thats also good)
4. Pavlich 26
5. Hill 23 :thumbsu:

:)

What's that song got to do with anything Chops when you clearly love telling people "I told you so?" ;)

If anyone watched the Swans vs West Perth prelim last year where unfortunately the Falcons went down, they too would have been sold on Hill. From memory he was one of our best and put his meager body on the line time and again in this big game.

The thing I really like is that despite mainly playing defensive roles for West Perth and in the U18s, he is really developing his offensive game at AFL level. His rate of development has been unbelievable and I think he can and will only improve.

I was not convinced, even after his performance in the WAFL finals last year, Rich was playing well below the rediculas expectations placed on him but has really tuned onto AFL football.
However i think Nicholas is rather a safe bet, his 27 hitout against Zack Clark was impressive (he played just under 50% of the game and rucked about 90% of the time when on the field) for pressure and impact as a ruckmen i think he is awsome. Very clean by hand and has improved by foot over the summer. Like Fremantle is with Hill im totally happy with us pick Naitanui.

Speaking of tackle counts, Masten averaged just over 5 tackles a game last year a record for a debut player. I believe Daniel Rich is on his way to breaking that record by a considerable margin?

But unless they are getting 20 kicks also it just means they are second to the ball always ;).... Rich has done pretty well. Masten however is there as a ball winner, so his tackle count of 5 is irrelevant when he barely touches it...

Chops, i dont need to dig up names. Just go and read the Rich V Hill thread pre draft and post draft... I also recall have a discussion with yourself who said something along the lines of Hill is a flanker not a ball winning mid?

Nope. I was a big Hill fan. Rated his ball winning.

But I had the midfielders ranked:

Hartlett
Hill
Rich.

Was very very glad we picked Hill over Rich. Did not rate him at all highly. Can remember saying people will be most impressed with Hill's defensive side.

That was the first time I really noticed him. Holy crap he was everywhere toward the end of the game and nearly got the Cardies over the line.
I think it's fair to say though he has exceeded everyone (including the recruiters) expectations with the rate of his development. No one thought he'd be this good this early.

I'm pumped at watching him, DeBoer, Suban, Ibbo and the rest on the big stage tonight!

I think that Hill is a footballer first, then,an athlete. He is a footballer who know where to go at the right time,He is where the ball is going to be.That means he is a footballer. He knows how to read the play.
Natanui on the other hand is good athelete the Eagle hope, they can make into a footballer. He spends far too much time trying to get to contests, and when he gets the the ball is gone.
It is no good being where the ball used to be.
Or as Jack Dyer would have said, its ain't no good bein where the pill ain't.

Typical sensitive response to some constructive comments from you lot.
I love the fact that Hills tackle count is a positive and Mastens a negative :thumbsu: nice spin, Masten will be a ball winner/ extractor when he gets some weight and plays in the position he was drafted for. He unlike Hill is a natural onballer and does not need to be led to football, would be getting just above 20 disposals a game if he played on ball.

Naitanui averaged 14 disposals in the WAFL last year, not that much less than Hill or Rich. His team mates would do better to raise thier vision and center to ball as his often left open through the middle on the way to a contest in a flank. Given his speed and size i think he would be very useful in open space.

I couldn't give a rats toss how Masten is under weight, not played in his right position etc etc. I also don't care about Naitanui.

This thread is about Hill on the Dockers board, so keep your blue and gold tinted opinions to the blue & gold board, unless you have something constructive to say about the topic at hand. Which I highly doubt considering your history of looking through your blue and yello glasses at everything freo.

On topic how was Hill tonight, I was unable to watch the game?

Not his best game but did some typically brilliant things. A bit quiet overall.

It was hard to tell as I'm going off what was on TV, but the physicality of the Hawks seem to catch him out. He took a couple of hits early and didn't quite seem himself until later in the game when his fitness/speed allowed him to come back into it. The Hawks rarely allowed the Dockers to open up which is where you see Hill at his best, and Hill just doesn't have the maturity YET to bust through and physically take on the mature players. We just need to remember how young this kid is.
