Much worse than the Hawkins contact this one
What? No way in hell was it worse than the Hawkins one.

May is at least trying to demonstrate an action here and did not intentionally touch the umpire, Hawkins was just being a disrespectful flog.

Reckon they got it right with the week for Hawkins. Curnow should also get a week.

May, imo, should just cop a fine, but still pushing the envelope a bit.

All 3 a bit stiff as I don't believe there was any malice in their actions, but can't be having blokes touching the umps. It's just stupid and unnecessary and they should know better.

On the channel 9 footy show they were saying these shouldn't be going direct to tribunal. I don't think they realise that under the new system anything without a category like malicious, negligent, high goes direct to tribunal and doesn't necessarily mean serious. This year some direct to tribunal cases have got off with a fine.
Unfortunately I think the AFL have drawn themselves into a corner here. Saying that umpires are not to be disrespected is one thing but why would a player get suspended for one match for an accidental or incidental touch on an umpire while a player who gives an umpire a spray of four-letter words gets away with a free and a fine at worst? Seems the latter is the one who more deserves the suspension.

The other argument is just let the game roll on, people come to the football to see players and in general the players do not interfere with the umpires. Is the whole thing a bit of an overreaction? It all smacks a bit of "naughty boy" suspensions.

It's pretty bloody straightforward. Don't touch the umps. The players know the rule.
Hawkins last week was dumb. Considering what he got at the tribunal less than a week ago, May and Curnow are even dumber.

There is no 'incidental' contact determination when it comes to umpires - that only exists for contact with other players. For contact with umpires it's either 'intentional' or 'accidental'. Nothing else. It's been assessed as 'intentional', as it was, so off to the tribunal he goes - just like Hawkins, and will cop a week - just like Hawkins.

People blaming the game, the rules, the umps, etc.. have a laugh. How about the dumb players who keep doing this stuff? It's one of the most straightforward rules in the game FFS.

Nice persecution complex.

Both Curnows sent to the Tribunal.

And the May one was clearly accidental.
Hawkins has been suspended for both the jumper punch and the umpire touching

Then the very next week the rule is ignored and player are fined only

Yeah you know he Carlton boys are just going to get fined as well

Touching the umpire hand is worse than head butting his chest

Logical
