Roast Stephen Rowe-isms

Surprised there hasn't been a thread on him yet (not that I've looked), but he's come up with some cracking sayings and comments lately.

A pearler from tonight:
- (when referring to a boxer) - "he's got a reach like a sick dog"

Post your Rowe-isms here. All in good fun though He's been like a breathe of fresh air on that show.

One from yesterday's Knighta interview, he said Matthew Bode would "be like a mouse in a sugar bag."

I always remember Stephen Rowe getting in trouble back in 03 or 04 or something when he was commentating in a NAB Challenge match of the Crows against West Coast and he got stuck into Kerr for having a bad game by saying "He can't play football because he's a bloody Indian! It's not in his blood! He's an Indian!!" and you could actually hear the rest of the commentators cringing in the background


Him taking over KG's spot has been fantastic though.

Never liked any media personality who base their schtick around the boof head element.

What does it say about us listeners that, say, David Wildy with a platform of being knowledgeable and interesting, get overlooked for Rowe's loud noises and colloquial language. It is an indictment on society that these sort of people are popular.

Is a step up from KG though.

Yeah I like Rowey, mainly because he doesn't try to be something he's not. He knows he's not the sharpest tool in the shed and doesn't pretend to be otherwise. Unlike his pseudo-intellectual counterpart, who is just as clueless except he speaks with a tone of smugness and arrogance.

Only just. When I've tuned in (which is less and less frequently) it appears Rowe is trying to channel KG at times.

The whole 5AA sports show is an indictment on the listeners as well. Why would you ring a radio show, whose know-it-all host tells you to ring an give your opinion, only for that same know-it-all to tell you you've got no idea what you're talking about?

Still staggers me why people bother.

Yeah I like Rowey, mainly because he doesn't try to be something he's not. He knows he's not the sharpest tool in the shed and doesn't pretend to be otherwise. Unlike his pseudo-intellectual counterpart, who is just as clueless except he speaks with a tone of smugness and arrogance.

He's actually quite intelligent and extremely well read, but does have narcissistic tendencies. As for Rowey, I like his brashness, can be quite funnny at times and he does take it up to Cornesy, which KG never did.

Rowey does copy KG whether it is sub-consciously all otherwise it is bit annoying.

That said he is 1000x better than KG. Rowey actually understands the modern game of football, which is good because it keeps the wrinkled prune in check. He also has a pretty good knowledge of other sports, even cricket, which was supposedly KG's strong point. However KG could not even tell a listener once if the runs counted if you got run out going for a third.

Not religiously, but a couple of times a week I tune in.

Rowey is an absolute LEGEND.

Love it how he can be interviewing a legend/olympic gold medallist etc and starts a question by saying "Now Listen...."

Rowey is a champ. Makes me chuckle at least once every time I tune in during a car ride. Fairly smart when it comes to footy and understands and explains the modern game very well.

I don't have an issue with having a bogan as a prime time radio identity. If he was a bogan trying to act smart that would be different, but he knows well his role on the show and he's incredibly likable in the role.

I remember hoping that he would get the role when KG announced he was going to be getting the boot, but fearing it would be McDermott.

I agree with Carl. Annoys the crap out of me with his 'Rex Hunt junior' impressions.

Not only that, hes got a damn annoying habit of constantly repeating things other people say for hours on end. Last week after the Melb Cup, when they interviewed the owner, he latched onto the fact that the guy was drinking champagne and he just continually repeated 'french horse and they're drinking french champaign FANTASTIC' for the next ****ing hour. It was annoying enough to make me want to detach my CD player face from the car and hurl it into traffic, grenade style. Either that or switch to CD, i forget.

Hes got one advantage over KG and Cornes, in that hes actually willing to let callers have an opinion different to his. Thats it. Apart from that, the entire show is ignore worthy.

I like the balance - ditch the Cornea for Wildy and it'd be fantastic. I think you guys are being a little harsh on Rowey, he may be a larrikin and a fraction simple, but he's also a genuinely nice bloke whose passion and energy can be infectious. Seems a lot of people want to tend towards our radio teams mimicking those you get everywhere else in the world; analysis and that's about it. I like that Aussie culture's still got that quirkiness about it that allows a drive home show such as this to feature a little bit of stupid fun instead. I love the footy show for the same reason, and I'm sure the people who can't stand Rowey are the same ones who see TFS as a train wreck.

Rowe is a douchebag, most annoying commentator ive ever heard. Dont listen to the show because of him.

The Bays would do well to get rid of the part timer IMO.

I like the Footy Show. But Rowe is the Doug Hawkins equivalent. Or more recently Fevola. They aren't funny themselves, what's funny is when smarter people pay the crap out of them.
