The question I'd like answered is why Liddle was getting so heavily involved in list management decisions?
Well what has Liddle done from what I can tell, he has used some contacts from a old job to help us get a player which would of fitted into our best 22 without SOSs permission. And he also pushed, along with the coach to bring Eddie back to the club.

I'm of the belief that SOS maybe a bit precious

In the past, with weak on-field leadership I’d agree. But with the current group of players and coaches, I disagree.

In the past, favourite son and under-supported Ratten would have got involved in the infighting and let it drag him down (not because he wanted to, but because he felt a part of it). A narcissistic and control freak Malthouse would’ve stuck his nose in at every chance. Not to mention blokes like Murph or even Judd feeling the heat with little to no support.

I genuinely can’t imagine Teague or Cripps being bothered by it. The squad is tight, they’re enjoying what they’re doing and I honestly don’t reckon they’d be phased in the slightest. I’ll back them to get on-field results and, as per usual the suits in the admin roles will take credit for it after the W’s start coming.
This post is so accurate and the most pertinent in the thread. Unfortunately I think it will be swept away in a sea of vitriol.

I have no issues with SOS leaving the club, he has done what is needed and reset our list. I think he is a little compromised with 2 boys on the list and maybe another on the way in the next few years.

Disagree Ginger.
If SOS is the best man for the job I couldn’t care less if he’s compromised by having a couple of sons at the club.
Big deal. He’s not involved in their contract status anyway.
I also keep hearing this phrase “he’s done his job” and I just don’t get it.
We’ve finished in the bottom four how many years now?
Granted, he has (what we think) set up a great young list but you need a guy like SOS to get deals done in trade period as well. Look at Richmond last year with Lynch. Successful clubs don’t let go of important people just because they’re at the top.

It’s just infuriates me this situation. Look at how well Gale & Balme seem to work at Punt Rd together. That’s the synergy you need not this ego clashing for power we currently have.

Liddle needs to get down from that top office of his at Ikon Park and give the supporters a fair explanation as to what’s gone on.

As supporters we should have every right to be filthy. In my opinion this is akin to Sam Walsh, Charlie Curnow or Jacob Weitering wanting out of the club. That’s the impact this departure will have.

Current players? I'd understand if past players would since he's sacked like 60 people in 4 years. ******* brutal.
Is not well liked by players past/present. Probably due to his no bullshit style, which has served us well in trade negotiations.

I'm not saying the players have to like him, just that the article is putting a fair bit of mayo on the situation.

FWIW while I am sad to see SOS go, I believe he can be proud of the work he’s done. Time will tell on a lot of decisions, but he has been brave when needed and also stuck to his guns in the face of possible supporter backlash. The rumour that he was only going to stay one more year before leaving of his own accord gives me some comfort, but it hides the real problem.
I by no means feel that everyone in an organisation needs to be 100% in agreement on all things - it can be very healthy to disagree, or to believe in your opinion so strongly that you fight for it. What I hate is the perception that sneaky and underhanded dealings are happening behind people’s backs, that roles are becoming blurry and that certain people are assuming their position at the club grants them the right to do whatever they want.
SOS may well have been leaving soon anyway, but the fact that he has either been pushed out or been made to feel that leaving early was his only option makes us look like a rabble. Just when we are starting to redeem ourselves on field - we look like a basket case off it.
Someone mentioned Richmond earlier, and the seemingly harmonious relationship between O’Neill, Gale and Balme. I’m sure it’s not always as rosy behind closed doors as it appears to be in public, but that perception of harmony goes a long way to portraying a club who knows what they want - and are on the same page when it comes to achieving it. 2 flags in 3 years shows it’s working.
We’ve got a LONG way to go to get there.

Rant over.

Lol...Hark's anti LoGuidace agenda V Jab's anti Liddle agenda V emotional "I Luv SOS more than you do" scribes.

Think i'll continue heading over to the other threads.

I've had an anti- Liddle agenda ever since he declared himself to be an enemy of Carlton's success mate.

It is my view my opinion and things are pretty much panning out exactly as I hoped they wouldn't. I don't buy a membership every year because I want to support "Liddleton" and Carlton don't need a CEO on 'training wheels' - as a CEO he clearly is on training wheels.

No CEO with half a brain would let an asset like SOS leave - without at least having as good if not better replacement.
No CEO with Club's interests at heart would tell the world "I am discomfited by the fact that SOS is the father of two playing sons" - you sort it out internally. No CEO worth his or her salt would invite ex mates from Punt Rd to waltz into the Carlton list - without consulting the list manager - and no I don't believe for one second that Eddie Betts was the central bone of contention - SOS is way way too smart for that - that nonsense being peddled is Liddle's idea of good spin.

For me anyway it is less about SOS leaving (lthough I'd prefer he left on happy terms) than Liddle's exposed lack of competency - SOS (apparently) was leaving at the end of 2020 anyway. Now he is leaving with no succession plan in place. Good luck Liddle and your mate Lloyd.

As a Carlton supporter I make no apologies what so ever for being disgusted with the way things have been allowed to pan out - none.

Harks. You can't keeping carrying around this delusion that your mate Shane was really a good recruiter denied the chance to shine by a disfunctional club and then unfairly shown the door by Big Bad LoGuidace.

The club were terrible. Terribly run from the top down. Shane and many others contributed heavily to that.

Times, and the Club, have moved on. They are now a well run club. Not perfect. But well run and appointed. You know....like any other normal club.

Your clear anti LoGuidace agenda does you no favours. But you're entitled to keep running with it.

Reminds me of KB:). Won't be happy till all the culprits are gone.

Is there really any need for you to make things up also? Where has our objective sense disappeared to?
How did Shane become my mate? Why am I deluded? What clear MLG agenda? I explained to you in clear terms that I don't side with individuals but what I see to be best for the club and in no way have you addressed the points I've put forward but you know.....gone the man. Poor work, Terry. Really poor.

Maybe it makes for an uncomfortable and a difficult to digest fact, that this club isn't being run as well as you want (need to see it) to be.....but in the meantime we'll go on pretending.....because it easier that way.

Your post adds nothing but you did add a smiley face...and that makes all the difference.

The last time I looked, there was no university course offering 'AFL List Management'.

Mick Agresta has had some pretty good grounding working under Beatson and SOS in recent years, and would most probably do a great job. Have we actually stopped to consider that he may have been recruited to the club with the objective of being groomed as SOS's successor...given that we've learned that SOS was supposedly leaving at the end of 2020 anyway?

And going by our club's recent history, if Agresta got the nod, we'd already be looking for the best recruiting officers and talent scouts to support him.

that’s my thoughts , re Agresta

Article starts by mentioning Silvagni's "parting swipe", and then never explains what was said further.

Also suggests SOS is "well liked by the players" when they all pretty much to a man think he's a prick.
So that would be very uncomfortable for Ben and Jack if true.
I don’t see it.

I have no issues with SOS leaving the club, he has done what is needed and reset our list. I think he is a little compromised with 2 boys on the list and maybe another on the way in the next few years.
And he has a family issue as well. If what I have heard is correct then it is quite serious, and understandable why he is moving on.
