I don't.

Like 98% of all Clubs AGM's, the positions will be stitched up, the speeches dull, the people who piss n moan n whinge all year will be nowhere to be seen, and the evening will be dull as dishwater.
Pretty much spot on. Total waste of time these things

Okhams razor indicated sos was pretty much gone. Iirc, Barass70 indicated shortly after that sos was not done yet.

IMO both have pretty solid track records - wondering whether the 2 rumours are compatible? Sos quitting list management to be ceo perhaps? :p

I honestly believe that nobody actually knows what is going on

Imagine Liddle was the former club legend and sos was the newbie. People would be talking the same crap just reverse the names.

Imagine Liddle had a near flawless track record in his position, produced an unbelievable body of work and Chris Judd, the newbie board member, started interfering in his role as CEO and putting out his own unapproved membership campaigns alongside Liddle's then criticising Liddle for only getting 100k members signed up instead of 300k.

If you guys have time, you should watch Draft Day with Kevin Costner. Shows the lead into draft day and all the wheeling and dealing with live trading draft night in the NFL.
I said last year, we should have chased Kevin Costner for the list managers job. Now it's time to give him a call.

Assuming the rumours regarding Liddle are true....

If Liddle is actively forcing SOS out because he believes SOS has under performed then I’d question his judgement, but not his integrity. Liddle imo just needs to be brought back into line by the board.

If Liddle has a personal issue with SOS and his actions are a power play to appoint his own man then I question his suitability to continue on as CEO.

Regardless of Liddle’s motives I want SOS to fight for his position and help the club to resolve the issues, rather than just slip away quietly.

Sounds like Liddle is very focused on keeping those membership numbers climbing and that is his priority, which is why it sounds like he has butted his nose in where he shouldn't.

This is a really good insight. Liddle would definitely know that bringing in highly regarded players equates to increased memberships and that’s his obsession.

It could easily explain his motivations and frustrations regarding list management, but I still think SOS has made the right calls given the circumstances. He wants quality players at the right price.

Missing Coniglio has been a big blow.

What seems to be escaping so bloody many is that Liddle also has the easiest job in the world thanks to SOS(and team).

Our membership is not growing because of gimmickry. It is certainly not growing on the back of our new merchandise. It is growing off the back of on field advances and a small taste of success. Many people have contributed. The board has had the balls to back a complete rebuild, Bolts played a key role in turning the culture of the club at playing and staff levels. Unfortunately he did not have the mind set to complete the job, but to date, has had a bigger part to play than Liddle. Teaguey continues to kick goals and is loved by all who come in to contact. The future is going to be a great ride.

Liddle appears to have the skill set to contribute positively to the mix, even steer the ship. He must however remain mindful that he has entered a role significantly greater than he has had previously. Bolts is gone because he was inflexible, and wanted it his way. While obviously not infallible, the biggest contributing factor in our build and on field restructure has been SOS. The ability to create extra top end picks at the commencement of the build has enabled us to have not just enough, but surplus top end youngsters developing, and in some cases developed. Clearly SOS rates the small forward acquisition as secondary to the spine and midfield. We have had a couple of strikes in that area with a couple of throws at the stumps having missed This will be remedied soon enough, and in reality is not as bad as some believe.

Liddle, seemingly is of the belief that he has a better chance of landing players than the professionals. Undermining SOS and the rest of the team is unforgivable. Missing Coniglio, Shiel and Papley is no slight on any individual at our club. I am confident that soon enough this will become a blessing in disguise. Success off the back of predominantly home grown talent will be oh so sweet. Liddle needs to stick to what he does best and let the other lead players do the same.

SOS has been a great of the club on and off the field. There are obvious challenges to his ongoing role with his sons on the list. I would wager that Jack and soon Ben are shorted a bit of coin with Dad's desire to be seen as "impartial". If Stephen and the boys can rationalise his ongoing involvement, our management and supporters should embrace his contribution past, present and future.
Agree with most of the post but i think you're underestimating how much SOS undervalues small forwards. (judging by his track record) he doesn't see them as secondary, he sees them as not necessary at all which is a mentality from an era long since past.

His 'couple of throws' at this area were pickett (not a small forward at all), lebois, fasolo and owies. we're lucky cuningham has turned into a pretty good small forward when healthy but he was originally meant to be a midfielder. Bolton and Teague were forced to play small guys there because they're small like fisher, curnow, dow, polson, gibbons etc but none of them are small forwards.

If the process of signing of betts caused a rift within management then that's a conversation to be had, but ultimately betts was necessary because there was a position to be filled that SOS failed to fill.

SOS has done a great job of generating 90% of the list but he seems incapable/unwilling to devote any serious resources to address the small forward position and if SOS can't do it then someone else needs to.

For what it's worth the small forward position is the one weakness of GWS as well who despite their unprecedented plethora of talent can't quite seem to get that elusive flag.

I don't see Cuningham as a small forward but he's the best we've got and at least he can manufacture goals.

That experiment out of necessity this year was nothing short of a joke. As if Gibbons, Polson and ECurnow were going to manufacture goals.
We've heard posters say that they're there for pressure....Big deal. Comes back to who's going to kick the goals? We didn't have any small/mid-sized goal-kickers and again (and again) this is patently obvious for the types we looked at via the trade period.

We don't have crumbing forwards, we don't have mid-sized goal-kickers and we're expecting the three talls to do all the damage, along with our a couple of mids maybe kicking 10-15 goals in a year? We're kidding ourselves....but the defence will save us. FMD!

It was an obvious omission by our List Management team but we thought we'd fix it all in one fell swoop...........nope. That didn't happen.
There's always next year though...or the one after that....or the one after that...or we just put more pressure on mids to become something they're not.

Why don't we just find the baker to bake the bread. Novel idea, but you never know.

Wouldn't be surprised if SOS was hoping we'd turn up a Toby Greene or Devon Smith type. Undersized mid who gets converted to a small forward when all the better mids force them out of the midfield. Cunners, Fisher, SPS, Polson, Pickett, Garlett?

Bakers want more dough.

Agree and therein lies a significant flaw in our team structure too many lightweight & undersized players without either the aerobic running capacity or skills & natural ability to play alternate positions.
Add to that several perennial injured players during Silvagni tenure and it becomes an issue not insurmountable but significant.
