Not sure if mentioned, but if you know anyone in the Private Schools footy system, they would laugh you out of the room if you suggested Tom Silvagni could be AFL standard one day. Let’s not let romance get in the way of reality.

I saw him play for Xavier 2’s the day my godson was playing for St Kev’s 1’s. AFL player he isn’t.

On exposed evidence I unfortunately have to back this up. My son played against Tom last year in a YJFL sunday game and my son played a better game. My son is not going to make it at the top level, so if that is the best that Tom can muster then he's not going to make it. He looked like he was having fun though so that is important. There must be a tremendous amount of pressure and expectation that comes with being the son of a football legend. Kudos to Ben for getting this far and especially to Jack for being AFL level in most of the games he played this year.

It's a good take...it really is. But the more I dwell on this, SOS aside, the club has just thrown two of its own players under the bus, rather than truthfully address an issue. This may be a new low...well, lets say since 2002 anyway.
Yep.

Club has just publicly announced that two players on its list are so shit they had to sack our high performing List Manager, their father, so they could remove them off the list at the next available opportunity. The whole list is suffering due to two players picked in the fourth round of the draft haven’t reached AA status by the end of their second and fourth years in the system.

It got so bad at the club that all the coaches, fitness staff and football department could not collectively pick a side each week because the head of List Management could not be involved in the decisions. The whole place basically ground to a halt every Thursday night after training.

The explanations out of the club are more amateur than the sacking of a bloke doing his job better than anyone hoped was possible.

You should read the other SOS thread, It’s been confirmed by multiple people Tom is an absolute spud[emoji849]

But in all seriousness, that’s not what the club are saying about the decision at all. Terry Wallet makes a good point, Serge stepped down from the selection committee based on Stephen playing for the blues.

Stephen would know there’s a conflict of interest, it’s why I firmly believe that’s the public consumption position from the club.

I can’t agree with that Jabba, while the press release seemed quite contrived, and no doubt it was a cover for whatever disagreements took place, the silver lining is the clear air it gives SOS’s boys.

after this shit fight blows over and everyone’s feelings recover Jack and Ben will no longer have that cloud hanging over them that the are the bosses son. Just look at the scrutiny Jack has been under since his career started, just ridiculous for a pick 60ish kid. Same goes for the boys around the club. Neither has to look at Darcy Lang and feel nervous that he is probably going to get cut by his dad at the end of the season. Or sit next to Levi who has been screwed by SOS every year with shit one year deals despite giving his heart and soul and outperforming players getting 3 times his pay.

Now I’m not saying this is said but I bet it runs through the boys heads at times, cos I’ve been there in a similar situation.

Yes we’ve lost a great list manager but we are giving the next gen of Silvagni’s some clear air to hopefully continue the family legacy.

I just heard that John Elliott defamed SOS on Tom's drive program and they had to apologize and retract within 30 minutes.

brings back old wounds. Sos and Bradley were told by Ian Collins to tell the AFL everything about the salary cap, and the AFL would go esay on the club, which of course the AFL lied ( 😳), and did the opposite . Fraser Brown, with John Elliot and sticks etc shut up and gave them nothing. This created the rift from then on. Really sad. Sos only came back to the club ( after a short stint on the board ), once Sticks and co were gone . I think I have this correct.

Carlton are like Syria, never happy unless they are killing each other .☹️.

Everyone was salivating over McGovern when he nominated us and we paid up big for him. At the time I showed that JSOS had slightly better output for the same career span and was 4 years younger and would be on a lot less $$$.

Can’t tell me the boys don’t belong on the list. Who else picked up after either of them did we miss on?

We had a planned exit strategy for SOS to finish up at the end of next season, makes no sense to move him on now because we suddenly worked out there is a conflict of interest.

Blaming the boys for sacking their dad is very poor form, how are they supposed to react? We have publicly announced we only keep them on the list because we couldn’t talk to the List Manager about delisting them.

Yep I agree with some of your sentiments. SOS represents the last of the old guard. Yes SOS has done a great job , but that doesnt give him licence to flex his muscles into other areas or use his friendships to go around Liddle who is his boss and senior in position. Its all pure speculation, but maybe CL saw the need to bounce SOS on some issue, and it didnt go down well. This leak that we have all heard about ie Ellis which is discrediting CL could all have originated by SOS.

Just imagine, if some other club offers a shit load of money to take over the list management strategy , for example, Demons, and he ended up there in coming years and his job was to get guys like Curnow, McKay and Walsh to Melbourne. How ****ing stupid is Liddle's decision going to look to be quoting his reasons for not renewing SOS here ?
Just pray to football gods SOS decides to take on something else in football industry that does not involve clubland list management of some kind.

You're making the assumption players love him so much and that he's the one they had the best personal relationship with at the club.

I'd make a bet now that all the players you named probably love Teague more than they do SOS.

Added neither of the club leaders in Cripps and Docherty are SOS recruits. Once again I'd bet those players have better relationships with them.

SOS was involved at GWS yet that didn't help land any of their elite players when they left for other clubs. All we got was the broken down ones or the ones they didn't rate as elite.

You are so wrong.
I am making no such assumption.
Weird you project that onto my post when not even there.
I simply saying if he goes to another club and we lose some of our stars to where he goes at some point, Liddle is going to look so ****ing stupid it has the potential to be almost as bad as Malthouse making a mess of things for our club.

I'm not wrong.

Your post reads like players will be swayed to go to that club because SOS.

and his job was to get guys like Curnow, McKay and Walsh to Melbourne

Otherwise it doesn't matter who is in charge of recruiting at that other club they still have as much chance to recruit our players if they want them.

You are wrong. Cannot believe have to correct you twice.

I am saying, if we were to lose players to another club, which would be part of SOS job to acquire more star players to another club, Liddle will look even worse than he does now for our fans.

It wouldn't make look Liddle look anything.

Only idiots would think teams wanting our best players and potentially getting them had anything to do with the CEO.
